*Copying the idea of @Wolffy84 from last year*

Welcome to the Supercoach Draft Discussion thread.

A thread where we can all post and discuss any SC draft related material, such as:
  • Thoughts on Draft rankings by position
  • Average draft position based on last season and practice drafts
  • Which player should I draft first between ‘Player X’ and ‘Player Y’?
  • Players to target late in drafts
  • Players who could be over-drafted or under-drafted based on previous season performance
  • Anything else at all related to SC draft

Moderator Edit: Tidied up for a year on year discussion.

I'd like to kick off by asking for some opinions on my keeper squad going into 2022.
I need to keep 12, which is a lot harder than I first thought!
Any opinions will be much appreciated, cheers.

My selections would be
D- Stewart, Dawson, Ryan, Hind, Crisp
M- Steele, Macrae, Merrett, Parker, Lyons, Danger
F- Bailey, Danger

I didn't choose your ruck as i wasn't sure what rucks are still available and you could get one early.

Thanks for your response mate. I agree that those are probably the players to score most this year, however am considering letting Dangerfield/Parker (for example) slide in favour of a player like Tom Green/Luke Jackson who will likely be premo scorers in the next couple of seasons and kept for a long time.
Rucks are tough, as Grundy/Gawn/Darcy etc are all taken, so I expect I might have to hang onto O Mac as well

For me i always look at the players 11-14 and pick the 2 i think wont be there at my draft selection. as for rucks depending how many teams you have in your league and how many are looking for a ruck most people with a good ruck wont be looking to pick another ruck unless they have dpp well in my experience any way.

Hey lads, another Draft question, particularly for those of us with keeper leagues.
I'm interested in people's opinions on the next wave of stars in coming years, say, 5 players drafted from each year who are likely in your eyes to be top-liners in the coming years.

For me, some that stand out are:
2020 - Powell, Campbell & Gulden? Probably too early to tell at this stage, but Sydney have done well seemingly.
2019 - Quite a few of the top-10... Rowell, Anderson, Jackson, Ash, Serong, Green?
2018 - Walsh already well and truly established, Bailey Smith looks good, Tarryn Thomas, Butters etc?

What do you guys think? I'm sure I've missed a heap, I just ran my eyes quickly over the drafts really.

Can someone please explain how this works?

Our draft league is 10 teams, top 6.

Thanks

I imagine it would mean top 2 teams get a 2nd chance somehow.
Maybe 3v5 4v6 and the winners play off against 1st/2nd?

In your league settings it should have more info I'd say.
Go to league by clicking 'leagues'
Click 'rules and settings'
Mine for example says Finals series: Top 8 - 4 rounds

Tough one to talk about as everyone has different settings but thought some ideas could be tossed around as we enter draft season. Suggest people include the draft style, number of teams, captins on/off and on-field set-up for their strategy.

Personally, I am in a snake draft, 10 team league, no captain, 3-4-1-3.

Pre-draft I rank each position with my expected average and use that as a guide for position depth. Take non-mids early unless an absolute gun slides as there is the most depth in that position. I imagine in bigger leagues the rucks have to go early but in my league it isn't a disaster waiting for them, especially this year. Expecting the big 3 forwards to all be gone in the first round this year. Generally I've found that draft is won in the middle to late rounds and on the waiver wire. Win a lot early and throw your weight around at the trade table is also handy.

Hope some ideas can be shared.

Thought it would be cool to create a draft thread to chat waivers each week. I need a defender to fill in for Stewart for the next 3-4.

Ginbey, McKenna and Florent seem OK pickups.

Who's everyone eyeing off?

I also have Stewart to deal with. Luckily I had B Cox on the bench so on he comes for next week. Could have really used his points on field though!

The three that you're choosing from are difficult. Florent has never really been a high scorer but has the AFL experience. Ginbey will be up and down in his first year but has a great role. McKenna a good role too but will he fade a bit as the season goes on? Perhaps Florent and hope he can be a solid 80 or so points each week?

My weakest link is my forwards and I now have to deal with losing one of my best for two weeks in Pickett. So I'm in the market for a forward with W Rioli, Rachele, Perkins, B Brown and McCreery all available who tonned up round 1. Thoughts on who is best?

Even more fun to use the existing thread.

Would have Rachele out of those, his role looked awesome. Also looked like the only guy who was still trying for Adelaide in the second half so there's that...

+ 1 on Rachele, I'd definitely be targeting him looking at what's on offer for BB. I've already got Rankine but might take a flyer on Rachele as a bench stash.

Cheers. He was the one I was favouring too so will lock that in. I’m pick 2 on the waiver so hopefully he gets through 🤞🏼

Rampe is fools gold right? Bloody Stewart. Gonna be very difficult to cover.
Someone posted his heat maps from rd 1 compared with an average game from last year. Seemed to be freed up to roam further up the ground and play a less-accountable role.
Risk is he gets thrown back of course, but if he can keep up the roaming/linking up plays then he could be good, especially off the waiver for draft.

I ended up grabbing McKenna as a free agent, just don't trust the role for Rampe at his age.

Also used my 2nd priority to get Setterfield. Hard to ignore those CBA numbers. Newcombe was also dropped this morning which was very surprising.
