Not really relevant to this round as he has a bye, but don’t really know where else to post about it..

I have a nagging feeling that Lyons will get dropped round 3 with Neale returning. Just does very little defensively. This would clearly be disappointing for those of us who own him as he is yet to make cash and we would likely need to trade him for a player who we are comfortable with playing on field.

Hopefully my feeling is wrong.

That was always the danger with that type of pick, FWIW surely there were worse performers for BRL last week, but I agree he does tend to be the whipping boy.

I guess that the only silver lining would be that he is relatively easy to fix if this does turn out to be the case, not ideal, but up to a Fyfe type or down to a rookie on the bubble.

Not ideal, but not much in the SC world is, cross that bridge when we get to it.

He averages more tackles/game than Neale. not like for like, but it's not like they'll be relieved to have Neale's (nealy non-existent) defensive work back in the side!

Disagree a bit with the ‘does very little defensively’ comment.

In Round 0 he had a game high 9 tackles. Tackles isn’t the only metric for defensive pressure I know, but it is a good indicator.

Last round he only had 3 tackles. He wasn’t alone. Excluding Dunkley, the team leader in tackles had 5. His main competitor in my eyes in Robertson had just 2.

Historically he has good tackle numbers. Last year he had 4 and 6 in his two full games. In 2022, the last year he was in favour, he averaged a tick over 5 tackles a game. In 2021, he averaged just under 7 tackles a game.

Starting with him was always a risk as his JS is sketchy, but I’m getting more and more confident on his spot in the team. He is playing well and his competition are not. Could he get dropped in round 3 when Neale returns? Absolutely, but I do think he has earned himself a spot.
