Decent outcome for everybody who held or traded Oliver really.

Two weeks not too long for those who held while those who traded got a boosted score last round plus one extra player for this bye round which is looking like a somewhat unexpected nightmare due to Sicily and Laird at the very least.

Hopefully those who traded can get him back after his bye, too.

Veteran Liam Shiels is set to be available for selection against Essendon this weekend, while star midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke is closing in on a return in the next fortnight.

Shiels didn't play against Collingwood due to delayed concussion in the aftermath of the Round 10 loss to the Sydney Swans.

North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White said Shiels should train fully in Thursday morning's main session.

"Liam has been trending well in response to graduated low-medium intensity training," White said.

"He will tick off controlled contact early this week to then fall into unrestricted full contact training and game availability this weekend."

Davies-Uniacke hasn't featured since suffering a hamstring strain in the Round 9 defeat against Port Adelaide.

"Luke made significant strides in his return to play aspirations on Saturday with a strong on-field session at Arden St," White said.

"This week we will look to increase Luke’s sprint work and acceleration on ground as well as push his strength in the gym.

"Hopefully this will see him well positioned to fold in with the main program next week to prove his fitness."

Hadn't seen this tackle. Like Laird, he is fairly low on the player so that is not a great sign. the difference is Laird may have high arm pinned, not arm hitting ground that would give support. also another player impacts the motion in the Laird situation, plus it is a more of a spinning action that ends up on the ground rather than using body weight to take them to ground (like Parker) faster.

Would't surprise if Laird was careless, high contact but low impact rather than medium. we shall see.
