RICHMOND and former North Melbourne Robbie Tarrant has announced his retirement, effectively immediately.

The 34-year-old has played just two VFL games this year due to a chronic hip injury and has called time on his career after 194 games at the top level.

The No.15 pick in the 2007 draft, Tarrant played 174 games for the Kangaroos before moving to the Tigers at the end of the 2021 season.

Not the most reliable source, but interesting if this is true. Might suggest the Eagles look to split pick 1.

Pure clickbait

I've got no doubt he'd probably prefer to stay in his home state like every other 18yo in the country if possible, but there's no way he's had any discussions with West Coast about not wanting to come here... that's called Draft Tampering.

In my opinion, unless we get an absolute godfather offer for Pick 1 that we just can't refuse, and guarantees us Daniel Curtin as part of the package... Then I see us taking Reid and backing ourselves in to keep him here. Over our entire history we've only lost a couple of players heading back home that we really wanted to keep... Our retention rate is one of the best in the league for interstate draftees.

I also think it's important West Coast take a stand now... We can't just fill our list with only WA players. Especially with next years draft looking heavily compromised with most of the likely top 10 either Academy. Father/Son or Victorian players.

Take Reid, back ourselves in, and if he does want to leave after a few years... We've got 10 teams to trade with whoever comes up with the best package.

Love the passion LITS. Sounds great on paper but you’ve not considered the angle that you take him anyway and he completely spuds it up because he’s homesick then asks for a trade after 2 years on reduced value.

We saw Bailey Smith do it a few years ago flat out telling clubs he wasn’t leaving Victoria in interviews, doesn’t equate to tampering in the AFLs eyes unfortunately.

I honestly think taking him and then ransoming him off after 1 year while contracted isn’t the worst idea.

Yeah I still think we'd be in a really strong position even if he didn't quite live up to the hype and wanted to go home after 2 years... I'd say all 10 Victorian teams would still see the enormous potential he had and be competing with each other to get him, leaving us to choose the best deal... I think we'd still come out really well. The chances of him being a complete dud are slim I reckon.

Be interesting to see how the trade and draft periods pan out. I personally love those part of footy just as much as the actual game.

BLUES COMPLETE SET OF SIGNINGS
CARLTON has locked away its final two draftees from last year's crop, with uncapped duo Jaxon Binns and Harry Lemmey the latest to extend their deals at Ikon Park.

Both were already contracted for next season, but wingman Binns has penned a two-year extension through to 2026 while key forward Lemmey has agreed a one-year deal that will take him to 2025.

They join fellow off-season recruits Ollie Hollands (2026), Lachie Cowan (2026), Alex Cincotta (2025) and Hudson O'Keeffe (2025) in signing extensions, with Carlton now successfully securing all six of its summer arrivals to new contracts.

Binns, an endurance machine, has been edging closer to an AFL debut throughout the season after averaging a prolific 28.8 disposals and 7.6 marks at VFL level. Lemmey, a 201cm forward, has kicked 10.10 from 13 reserves matches. – Riley Beveridge

No.1 draft prospect Harley Reid ‘annoyed’ by reports he doesn’t want to be drafted by West Coast

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/...ws-story/3f59d8993489852f9c699a496735a155?amp

The coach of likely No.1 draft pick Harley Reid has responded to reports the teenage prodigy has expressed a preference on which club he wants to play for next year.

Harley Reid’s coach says the No.1 draft prospect is annoyed by reports he’s reluctant to head to West Coast.

Bendigo Pioneers coach Danny O’Bree said on Thursday that Reid and his family were keen to set the record straight and make clear the emerging talent had no qualms about being drafted by West Coast, or any AFL club.

“That is what he has said in the past and I spoke to him yesterday and he said exactly the same thing,” O’Bree said of Reid.

“He is a bit annoyed. He said he has never talked about this to anyone and he has never said it. We don’t want the attention to keep going on. We just want to put this to bed and let him keep playing footy. That’s all he wants to do. Go out and have fun and play footy,” he told the Herald Sun

“He is happy to go anywhere as long as he gets an opportunity to play footy. The comments (in the report) were that West Coast had been told (he didn’t want to play there). That is not just not true.

“He will thrive in any program he gets into. Interstate or Victoria. It wouldn’t matter with Harley. He is just a great kid and I am sure whatever program he gets into he will love.”
