Awesome scrappy lowing scoring Preliminary Final that went right down to the wire!!

Commiserations Tim, a great season you had!
Good win Phil. Didn't think my blokes had it in them on Saturday night, so to run it so close was a decent effort.

I think that's now two Prelim Final loses on the bounce by a combined margin of 5 points, IIRC I lost to Jordy last year by a point.

Heartbreaking stuff.

Anyway, a decent year from my boys (I think I even tipped myself for the spoon), after smooth sailing the first eight or nine weeks we then (again) got smacked with injuries which made the run up to the finals challenging in itself.

Good luck next week to both sides and coaches.

All the best in the GF @Philzsay !

Unlucky for you to cop a few injuries but JDG, H Clark and Cerra back to bolster your side.

Duncan suspended and LMac joins Ridley and M Kennedy in the rehab room for me but Hurn comes on for a last hurrah and, I don’t believe it but, Wagner gets a debut in a GF!

I’m not trusting the projecteds - from experience, I know that anything can happen in GFs! May even come down to Bont v English C!

Hoping for one last hurrah for the Rangers before some potential media criticism about the salary cap strategy :p

Immortals $2.65

H2H Record
H2H W-L Record

Round 17 - Immortals (1910) DEF BY Rangers (2240)
Finals Week 2 - Rangers (2265) DEF Immortals (1990)

Recent Form (most recent score last)
Rangers - 2,200 2,055 2,240 2,293 2,265 - avg 2,211
Immortals - 2,309 2,111 2,079 1,990 1,963 - avg 2,090

Grand Final Preview
It's fitting that the SCSUL |04 premiership comes down to a tussle between a previous SCSUL premier in 2021 winner Roppongian Rangers and the new blood Dagobah Immortals.

Roppongian Rangers spent the majority of the season atop of the competition ladder only losing 2 games in the regular season, whilst the Dagobah Immortals lost their first 3 games before working their way to second position.

The Roppogian Rangers won the Semi Final against the Immortals to get the rest last week, whilst the Immortals won their other two finals to make the big dance for the first time.

Selection headaches?
  • The Rangers will welcome back Shannon Hurn and Izak Rankine for Mitch Duncan and Jarman Impey. Corey Wagner will make his SCSUL debut for The Rangers in a Grand Final for Ben Hobbs.
  • The Immortals see the return of Adam Cerra, Hunter Clark and Jordan De Goey losing Jack Lukosius, Rory Atkins and Tom Hawkins in the process. A tough break for our intergalatic warriors.
Key Matchups
  • The Midfield Battle: On paper, the Rangers' midfield look far too strong with a core group of elite superstars but the Immortals could win this battle on the back of Rory Laird, who is set for a monster game.
  • The Ruck Battle: The Immortals hold the advantage wiith Tim English being the key. Another with the potential for a monster in the biggest game of the year. One of English or Laird will be captain and the Immortals could hold the lead going into Sunday.
  • Boom or Bust: The Rangers will be looking to their star studded forwards to dazzle on the big stage. It's a clear strength and one that should get them over the line.
Prediction: The Rangers to get it done by 264 pts as they carry their season form to the premiership cup.

All the best of luck to @Bomber18 and @Philzsay in the big one, and thanks to all for a great season.

Can’t believe the Jets are still paying $2.65 from second last on the ladder! Never count out a champion team I guess ;)

Best of luck Sho and Phil!

Rangers take the early advantage on Friday night sitting at 298 from 3 (Merrett 133, Heppell 87, Daicos 78) while the Immortals are 167 from 2 (De Goey 98, Langford 69).

I actually was relived that Langford salvaged 69 from full forward given how bad Essendon were.

The Bulldogs tonight will be a crucial game, the Immortals need Captain English and forwards Naughton & Ugle-Hagen to have day outs while needing Rangers Captain The Bont have a quiet one!

Looks like a very quiet first couple of games today for Grand Final representation … just to really build the suspense!

I think Rowell’s 133 for the Rangers might be the only on field score.

Lots of interest in Brisbane vs St Kilda though:

Sinclair
Steele
Marshall
Zorko
vs
Coleman
Clark
Wanganeen-Milera
Bailey

Commiserations @Philzsay - my guys went above and beyond to make it 2 cups in 4 seasons! Well done on your season and on making it to the big dance in any case!

T Walker the Norm Smith with 9 goals!

Special thanks to D Martin, T Greene, J Viney, J Weitering, J Daicos and T Nankervis for four years of service with the Rangers (and two premiership medals). All the best also to S Hurn in retirement.

The Rangers have a direct flight booked to Roppongi for mad Monday celebrations (without Shodoro, who needs the extra off season time to maneuver the 2024 salary cap).

Congratulations Sho. Well deserved, a strong side across the board.
Commiserations Phil, you've put together a fantastic year.
I think it was a blessing that my mob didn't get up last weekend, I'd hate to have seen the side I'd have put out, let alone the score, after how Thursday night selections went last week. I think I would've had a minimum five Best 22 players out, just from the side that I put on the park the weekend before, not to mention the others I was already missing like Cripps, Grundy, Dixon, etc.

Many thanks to Ken for yet another great season. A remarkable amount of time and effort goes into it, and we all very much appreciate it.

FWIW, the annual end of season award poll/survey will come out in a month or so when I'm back in Australia with a little more time on my hands.

@Bomber18 and @Philzsay, if you want to PM me your preferred bank details for the prize money to be sent to that would be great :)

Would teams like to do the Draft Lottery tonight given we've had our interests piqued by the AFL Draft? (8:00pm AEDT) We can then open up trading for 2024 once the Rookie Draft is completed and all delistings/redrafting confirmed.

I have been wondering when we would do the draft! Very happy for it to proceed tonight.

I will join if I can, but that will be subject to whether I am required for parenting duties at the time. Please don’t let that get in the way though.

Will be interesting to see where the lottery picks land … Harley would look good on my list 🤞
