Is the AFL trying to be as subtle as a rock by telling us the 2024 picks may be reviewed?

They're basically saying "here's some trade currency, use it or maybe lose it"
My understanding is that some of the draft capital North received previously was explicitly conditional on it being used to acquire a(n established) player. I think that’s how Logue came to the club.

ESSENDON'S Massimo D'Ambrosio has requested a trade to Hawthorn, with the out-of-contract Bomber keen to make the move next month.

The Bombers had offered D'Ambrosio a one-year contract for next season but the Hawks are understood to have a longer deal on the table, with the 20-year-old understood to have lodged a request to get to Hawthorn.

Mid-season trade period could be introduced in 2024 after CBA signed

D'Ambrosio played eight games this season, to add to his eight games from the 2022 season when he was selected by the Bombers mid-year at the rookie draft.

The left-footer's penetrating run and carry has been used in different roles from half-back to half-forward and he kicked the matchwinner against North Melbourne in round 12.

The VFL recruit, having formerly played with Richmond's VFL side, was either the starting substitute or substituted out of Essendon's side in his last five games for the Bombers, however they were keen to keep him, having re-signed fellow rookies Jye Menzie and Kaine Baldwin to one-year deals.

The Hawks have identified D'Ambrosio's run as a need, having missed out on their bid to land Fremantle wingman Liam Henry.

The Trade Period opens on Monday, October 9 and runs through to Wednesday, October 18.

Seems generous. Are the WCE getting all that and some steak knives? 🤔
WCE have crashed badly, but by no means are in the same half-decade rut that we are:

2020 - WCE 5th - 12W 5L; NMFC 17th - 3W 14L
2021 - WCE 9th - 10W 12L; NMFC 18th - 4W 17L 1D
2022 - WCE 17th - 2W 20L; NMFC 18th - 2W 20L
2023 - WCE 18th - 3W 20L; NMFC 17th - 3W 20L

Give them another two years of finishing bottom 2, then they can have some end of first round picks :p

KEY-POSITION tall Emerson Jeka is among three players delisted by Hawthorn on Tuesday.

Standing 198cm, Jeka’s axing comes as somewhat of a surprise given the club’s dearth of key options after Jacob Koschitzke’s trade request to Richmond last week.

WHO’S CALLED IT QUITS 2023’s retirements and delistings

Injury-plagued Josh Morris and Irishman Fionn O’Hara have also been told their contracts won’t be renewed for 2024.

Jeka was taken with pick No.9 in the 2019 rookie draft and made just seven appearances in the brown and gold over the past two seasons.

Morris played 15 matches over four seasons after being picked at No.57 in 2019.

O'Hara signed with the Hawks as a Category B rookie at the end of 2021 but was unable to break through for an AFL debut.

Hawthorn's recruiting and list manager Mark McKenzie thanked the trio for their contributions.

"All three have been great teammates and showed a high level of professionalism during their time in the brown and gold,” he said.

Max Lynch called time on his career earlier this season after doctors recommended he quit following repeated concussions.

Richmond
He has been a bit frustrating in the past, but there were definitely signs he was improving his consistency. I don't know Richmond well enough, but he seems an OK replacement for Riewoldt.
Thank you for your thoughts, @Ironhawk. If he can just fill the role that JR8 was doing, I'll be pretty happy. I hope that the Lynch & Koschitzke pairing does well. That is if you decide to trade Jacob. What do you think you'll ask for him?
