A countback win to kennychao is my guess.
As foreshadowed earlier, a score of 1.3-1.5/race is what is needed to be competitive.
It's definitely not about picking winners, unless you can find one outside the top 3 in the betting, as kenny did with his Capt pick!
It's more about finding those 2 - 5 point scorers in the placings.

Only 7 winners tipped from 50 tries. It was a very tough day on paper, and so it proved to be!!!

I'll call it a tie. Picking the major race winner and tipping 6/10 place getters from non-favourites are both worthy achievements.

Thanks for the table updates, I must admit I was a bit distracted with the footy today to do much updating. Your scores seem to match mine which is a good sign.

I'll have a better think on the best way to balance the points to make things a bit more even in picking any horse, however your numbers do seem to have been pretty spot on. I might run with that for next week.

Hopefully we can get a few more entrants next week for the full competition. One or two good picks can really change things dramatically, and it gives everyone a shot, as seen today. I like that.

Apologies for the delays, had a busier Friday than usual. In future, I think I'll generally be posting the lists on Friday nights after work (for Saturday events), but sometimes it might be on a Thursday night - you'll have at least most of the Friday night and Saturday morning to review the official points on offer, although you can always look it up yourself if you want to enter early and still have a fairly good idea of what they will be.

I have decided to implement the slightly modified scoring method that Rowsus suggested last week and start scores at 3 rather than 1. I'm hoping this doesn't now swing things too much towards just picking favourites, but I think it should work out OK.

Races for Turnbull Stakes Day (Flemington):

Interesting spread of selections so far.

I decided that I will participate as well, and that I'll always make my selections before checking who anybody else has picked. I am rubbish at tipping, so the fact only one of my selections has been chosen by anybody else so far is probably a good sign for those that have entered.

Scoring seems a lot cleaner compared to last week (nice work!). I will just add that a few of these raced tonight (Etienne, Korasana etc) so hopefully no one chose those horses

@Ironhawk - a suggestion perhaps for the coaches that are playing to select their own captain (double points)?

Good pick up with those horses. There was only one selected so far who raced tonight (@tso you may want to note this).

As for the captaincy pick, I am not too fussed how it works. I think I prefer having the feature race as being worth double points, as it's often one of the hardest races to pick and rewarding it accordingly, but if there's a preference for people to choose their own captain instead from any race, I can change to that for next weekend.

You'd generally hope/expect, that the favs have 3 - 4 races where they are projected to be the top scorer in the race.
Currently the favs have: 4 x projected top scores, 2 x 3rd top, 1 x 4th top, 2 x 5th top, 1 x 8th top, so picking the 10 favs, while probably "safe" and competitive, is likely to leave you 3-5 points behind the best score most weeks.
The 10 favs are projected to score 17 this week. That fits in line with my prediction, that lifting the starting point from 1 point to 3 would lift the required score/race to be competitive from 1.3-1.5 up to around 1.8/race. It also makes most of the favs open for consideration, where as last week, there was probably only 3 or 4 you could seriously consider.
