McVeigh or Miller

One will come in this round, the other, next.

Miller, if fit, BE 49. $325k - we've seen him hit 45 in a game, so very good ceiling

McVeigh, BE 6, $284k - has been consistent without going big. He looks good.

If Miller is fit, he'll be onfield.
If I go with McVeigh, he'll sit on the bench, Sobey will be onfield. So I would lose the double points.

The thing I'd like to know, value wise, is it better to grab McVeigh this round, than Miller, if fit, then grab the other next round?

I think I'd still lean Miller, as he has the double so therefore more points, while McVeigh should increase $4k-$8k more.

Thoughts?
At this stage, I'm looking at doing this

Thoughts on turfing perma donut Henshall? I still have him too but am contemplating getting rid of him which would mean missing out on Williams and going for Waardenburg instead.
Would it be possible to post your side to further assist with any recommendations?

Best to keep in mind that Williams next double is in RD11 whereas Pinder has one in RD8, if you are chasing lost points.

Since SuperCoach introduced the trade boosts I’ve either used them too quickly or not used them quickly enough.

I see a number of teams using their last boost already (and for very useful trades in my opinion).

I see danger in rounds 13/14 and 18/19, but the boosts are useful in growing team value now and also keeping competitive scores on a weekly basis.

Is anyone else struggling with challenge of saving boosts for potential danger or have you found risking it and going hard early more beneficial?

I’ve ripped through them in NBL, trying to chase from way back aggressively

Counter point in nfl I’m much higher ranked and have 2 sitting there I might not use

So my strategy changes based on position

Am doing that myself by being aggressive due to ranking. I’m trying to hold one back for the 13/14 rounds when I need to move off the Cairns players.

Don’t know if I will, but leaning towards holding my final boost.

Travers, Klintmann (McDaniel, Henshall)
Hukporti (Olbrich)
PJC, Robinson (Cummings, Ayre)

$150,100 itb.

Henshall and Ayre look to be the weak links, a boost is required (if one is left) and Cotton/Pinder should be prioritised over one round of Sauce to reduce the exposure of SEM. Henshall to Bannan should be solid as the intention would then be to flick McDaniel next week whilst retaining a cheapish option (Bannan) that has scoring potential. My recommendation would have been Hukporti and Travers to Waardenburg and Pinder but if my calculations and your quote is correct, then you will fall $100 short. I don’t mind selling Ayre on his double over Henshall if the expectation is that his contribution will be minimal and thus little lost by keeping Henshall one round longer to eventually flick to Armstrong.

Early week trades (which I have been keeping tbh):

Cummings & Hukporti to Klintman and Creek (hopefully only for the one round)

Leaves

Creek, Klintman, (Wiley,Toohey)

Waardenberg, (Sarr)

PJC, Sobey, (Flowers, Te Rangi)
I would absolutely hold Cummings since he has a double this week. I would 100% use a boost and get rid of some of your Adelaide players who have a bad schedule. Flowers to Bannan for some cash generation looks good

Cummings would be on the bench behind PJC & Sobey though.
These trades get all starting 5 positions to double game players.

Can you trade in Bannan instead of Creek - maybe that will allow you a bit more flexibility to trade someone not on a double for Klintman, like a Wiley?

Bannan set to make another 40-50k this week and has pretty assured minutes in Brisbane. Not the best match-up but likely a better long term play for cash gen. Alternatively consider boosting for Bannan through Flowers / Wiley for the cash gen as Adelaide aren’t on a double for a while.

Is anyone worried about Bannan court time/scores being effected with Baynes coming back from suspension?

Not particularly. He plays mostly PF with a little bit of run at C. Baynes isn’t a high minute C anyways. He will just bump Harrison back to the bench, though I do think Bannan’s rebounding will take a little bit of a hit.

Current team after one trade (Huk to Bannan)

Klintman, Bannan - Travers, Sarr
Waardenburg - Olbrich
PJC, Miller - Doyle, Illi

ITB $174700

Trade targets are Williams, Pinder or Cotton. All trades will probably involve moving Illi out. (Via travers if necessary)

My trade really depends upon whether Miller plays. I don’t want to be forced into using another boost nor do I want to field a SGR if miller misses.

Williams is the best trade in, but SEM play game 1 of the round. If Miller is a game time decision I will be forced to play a SGR (Doyle or travers)

The taipans play game two, so if Miller plays, I can bring in Pinder in the fwds. If Miller doesn’t play, I could bring in Cotton in the guards with my 2nd trade.

Looking at the schedule for the next 3 weeks. Perth get 5 games and SEM get 4. So if Williams averages 40, then cotton or pinder need to avg 32 to score the same. I think fading Williams will be ok.

If I bring in Pinder, I then need to bench either klintman, Bannan or waardenburg. Who would you choose and why?

Pretty clear cut with Bannan for me. Matchups against TAS and SEM with Baynes back (who will have a little impact)

I like Williams, he's expensive, but worth it imo.

I'm looking at the amount of games over the next 7 or so rounds.

A bit of both. Seem to use them very quickly to get off to a fast start or fix holes. Rather than chasing POD selections my POD is using the boosts and trades as much and as quickly as possible to hopefully keep the bank and points ticking over as I am not confident of using them astutely further down the track nor am I confident in chasing the pack.

Brilliant question and have had a look into when I have used the boosts amongst the competitions (Supercoach and Sportsdeck) that offer them in 2023.

AFL SC: Five boosts used by RD8 from a season length of 24 rounds. Overall rank of 19,951 from 190,972. Did help come back from a starting rank of 80k odd to hold rank around the 10k in the middle periods but was only delaying the inevitable later down the track.

BBL SC: Used two of three boosts in the final five rounds (14 round season). Largely fixture based with no cash considerations.

NRL SC: 5 boosts used by end of RD8 (earliest possible was RD6)- Season length is 27 rounds. Finished 1,768 from 157,496. Was about to be a personal best as I spent Rd15-RD26 between 400 to 800 but bulk rest, injuries ,etc In final round put a stop to that. Boost would not have helped. Personal best was 1,618 in 2022 which was my first season inside the top 10,000 and the first season in which boosts were available. Looks like I spent those by end of RD9 with four of five coming between RD6-RD9.

NFL Sportsdeck: 4 boosts used by RD6 (earliest possible is RD5)- Season length is 17 rounds and my current overall rank at the end of RD8 is 15 from 2,829.

EPL Sportsdeck: 6 boosts used by RD8 (earliest possible is RD7)- Season length is 38 rounds and my current rank at the end of RD10 is 30 from 2,985.

NBL SC: 4 boost used by RD5 (earliest possible is RD5)- Season length is 20 rounds and my current rank at the end of RD5 is 168 from 23,246.

NBA Sportsdeck: New season has just begun but was available last year. Five boosts used by end of RD8 (earliest possible was RD6). Season length is 24 rounds and overall rank was 53 from 3,457. Treaded water around the 40-60 rank most of the season and may have been better served later on to try to make inroads. Was defending 4th spot from the season prior.
