What’s your thinking around it being a trap? Role looks very good, they’re looking for him to distribute quite a bit. Hasn’t really been in my plans to be fair but it’s a pretty tempting swap for a Young type.
That half back role who connects all the play, is supercoach gold imo.
Martin, holmes, coleman, clarke(fremantle) just to name some will have a big impact this year.

My comment is a bit tongue in cheek - but I do have reservations about whether he actually makes the jump to that top 6 defender standard this season.

I’d say it’s still a speculative pick, rather than a lock. But yeah he’s playing great today 👍

If for some reason he didn't get D/M DPP, and was stuck in the Mids, would you still consider him a "best pick"?
For clarity I’m not saying I’m confident he’s the best pick but it’s a great question. Depends on the average in the end. A 500k mid going 100 won’t wreck your season but would leave a pretty sour taste in your mouth.

For the sake of discussion, would he be locked in your side if he was a defender to start the season?

I know its preseason but the way martin is playing he could ave 110. His everywhere its like the game plan is to give it to him at all cost.
Also like reid for a bench spot.
Bit of a stretch to say he can go 110 right now. Hard to see with so many mouths to feed in that backline.

Reid is really the only one in defence at his price with good job security, other than Gibcus. Can’t say I’d want to field him though. Surprised so many have passed on him so far.

Don't get me wrong, I like Nic Martin. I'm still a bit clouded on the whole defence though because all of Redman, McGrath and Ridley are scoring heavily as well. Essendon dominating the SC pie to 3QT.

Zac Reid is an easy bench defender. 100% TOG. Score ticking along well.

Don't mind the look of Dempsey from the Cats either. 84% TOG to 3QT. It's not the best role, but he's another option if going cheap at the position.

Clark looking another easy bench selection if named round 1. 4 frees have bumped the score up a little, but it looks like he likes it contested, and that's only going to help his scoring.
