Event 1: Paris-Nice and Event 2: Tirreno-Adriatico.

Although the season kicked off in January, our competition season kicks off next weekend with two multi day events: Paris-Nice commencing Sunday night and Tirreno-Adriatico on Monday night. Both events will finish the following Sunday.

In each event you will be selecting four riders. Of the four that you select, you may choose a maximum of one rider from each of the lists below (or none if you prefer) who will be among the favourites for these races. Your remaining selections can be anyone else in the field.

Paris-Nice: J Almeida, P Bilbao, R Evenepoel, P Roglic, M Skjelmose
Tirreno-Adriatico: J Ayuso, E Mas, B O'Connor, J Vingegaard, S Yates

It's worth noting that of the four World Tour races so far this year, there have been ZERO favourites win. None of Stephen Williams, Laurence Pithie, Jan Tratnik or Lennert Van Eetvelt had won a race at World Tour level before this year, so there is no guarantee I have selected the winners amongst those named above. I almost guarantee there will be multiple races this year where I do not nominate the winner among the group of favourites.

Entries are to be sent via PM. Any submitted in this topic will not be entered. I will post my selections a bit closer to the start of these races.

I have tagged below people who have previously expressed interest in participating, or who participated last year, however anybody is welcome to join at any time, not just those below.

@Aston @Bonaparte @bunlit @chels @Dravid @Kiewa @Old Big 'Ead @tso @Woosie

Good luck for the new season!

Race startlists for these two races can be found below. They are not yet complete, I'd recommend checking back closer to the start of the race for the official starters, however you can change your selections as often as you wish prior to the race commencing.

The Strade Bianche is currently on. Raining and gravel would not be fun. Tipping Pogacar in his first race of the season, but it's never an easy race.

Yeah, Pogacar attacked just after my previous post, the rain I mentioned didn't last either. Getting a gap of around 2 mins in the one gravel sector where he attacked shows just how much better he is than anyone else today.

The first race of the season, Paris-Nice starts at 11:15 eastern tonight, or in a bit under 8 hours for those who need to convert the time zone. 7 entries so far, but I am hoping for at least one or two more...

A few less entries in for Tirreno-Adriatico, just the 4 so far, however there's an extra 23 hours or so until that race starts. I expect it to end up with similar numbers.

2 hours until Paris-Nice starts. Still a few regulars from last year who haven't entered picks yet. As always, it is also open for anybody to join in at any time.

I'm not sure if I'll be awake to post all selections tonight after the race starts due to having to wake up early, if not I will post them tomorrow night before Stage 2 commences.

Picked the quinella, well done on the early lead @Ironhawk
Thanks. Bit risky picking a sprinter based on the back half of this event, but hopefully Kooij can do enough over the next two stages to be a worthwhile pick. Jorgenson looking like the big miss from me so far, as he seems to be one of the more aggressive chasing time bonuses. Interesting to see it was Fisher-Black that went with the two favourites when they tried to break away late in the stage - I almost chose him on form, maybe I should have.

Just a reminder for those yet to enter that Tirreno-Adriatico starts tonight, around an hour earlier than Paris-Nice. The startlist is full and official now, so it's a good time to enter, and not to leave it to the last minute.

Not a lot to mention about that stage. I was lucky enough to pick the correct sprinter which sees me in the lead, however I did start the competition better than anyone else last year and came second last overall - being first now doesn't mean much at all one stage into a race either. A slightly rough start for our two newbies who are both yet to get on the board, but there's plenty of time to catch up still. The popular Pedersen pick paid off (say that 5 times fast) with a second place on the stage, with the time of entry being all that is separating five people right now.

Tirreno-Adriatico selections:

Jonas in everyone's team - I think we all expected that. Lots of similar picks, but again, nobody picking the same 4 riders. Kiewa with just the 3 in this event after not selecting a replacement for Yates.

Speaking of Jonas, he's third up in the TT, most of the favourites are up late, so he may be leading the stage for quite a while.

A little surprised that Ayuso managed to pip Ganna for the win!

Also a solid performance by Hindley, just 3 sec behind Jonas.
Ayuso is quite good in the TT's, I know he won a couple of ITT's last year. I did think Ganna would be more likely to win, but not completely surprised.

It will be interesting to see if Ayuso can hold off Vingegaard now he has the lead. I was expecting they end up 1-2 in GC in some order before it started, but who knows. There's definitely others who can be right up there overall.

Paris-Nice Stage 2 Results:

The second sprint stage backs up what I said yesterday - a lot of the time there is a fair element of luck involved in being able to win a bunch sprint. Only two of the top 10 from stage 1 backed it up in stage 2. Mads with some minor points for a lot of us today, but it's chump change compared to the points still available in the rest of the event.

As mentioned, Ayuso beating Ganna for the win in the time trial was a bit of a surprise, however he is a very good rider - I had him listed as one of the favourites for a reason. Two people picked the stage favourite, and now top the leaderboard, tso picked up some points as well with Tiberi placing top 10 for the day to round out the current podium. Everyone gets off the 0 though with Jonas taking 9th today.
