Dustin Martin, corky

"Dustin received a knock towards the end of (Tuesday's) session. He was sent for precautionary scans which have cleared him of major damage, and we're going to monitor him over the next couple of days."

Toby Nankervis, foot

"Toby's been building his workloads over the last couple of weeks. Everything's going really well, really happy with how he's progressing. Toby will be unavailable this week and he's looking likely to play against Carlton."

Tom Lynch, foot

"Tom's put in an amount of work over the last six weeks. He's done a couple of main sessions now and he's got another really important session this Thursday. A few things to get through there and we're hopeful that he'll be available next week."

So Nank officially out for opening round, Naismith playing but Nank "likely" the following week....

Wowee, the AFL doing something good for fans, didn't even think they still knew we existed!

This is a huge tempter. Knowing you get 115 Jackson for probably the first month but with the long shot of Darcy having ongoing issues, which is absolutely possible. He probably should be in most teams, especially if R3 ends up looking more DPP loop than viable cash cow land with the news Nank is likely for round 1.

4-6 for Day, probably just long enough for Hustwaite to shine..

3-4 for Hunter, so similar for Windsor; but might be in trouble come Dees bye...

1-3 for Nank (they did say a good chance to be available for Carlton) - Naismith decisions will be interesting this season

I do have concerns for Wehr; Finn a week away while Cumming 2-3

This also has ramifications for Fyfe - looked like him & Darcy had a good understanding at clearances/stoppages, Fyfe is so good at positioning himself to get the tap/ using his big body then dishing off the handball to a teammate when the opposition tackles him. Not sure he would have the same connection with Jackson being so different to Darcy. Jackson is such an athletic ruck, he would probably be more inclined to tap it to open space & run on to collect it himself, then kick it long! That's fine with me now Luke, your in my team ;)(y)

I note the article states the following.

Clubs retain the ability to list an injured player’s return date as to be confirmed “if correct at the time ... but the status must be updated ASAP to a week-of-return timeline”.

So a player gets an injury. Team is not sure how long in the short term (see what I did there:rolleyes:) so to cover all bases and not mislead by stating a likely timeframe that is too short the first announcement is the worst case scenario - 4 weeks so they have all bases covered. You look at that and decide must trade my injured player out.

Then next time they need to update the status - few days later?- they have a much better idea of the injury and as they first suspected it is two weeks and so that adjust the injury report to two weeks. You would have held your player for two weeks.

Not sure that is any different to what we have now. But at least the AFL have made an attempt to get the Clubs to not abuse the system. But I think they still will.
