Is Heeney’s 70 in the Brisbane preseason game a concern? Did he have the same role in that game?
Similar role early but a lot more Adams/Jordon/Rowbottom/Sheldrick playing midfield and a lot more rotations in general going on.. He started in there though. It was a very hot game as well and both sides used the full 26 players throughout.

He's capable of those types of scores for sure and probably dishes up a couple but I'd read much more in to the game in the real stuff than the practice game. I'd be pretty shocked if he averages 135 but I'd probably be equally shocked if he averaged 70 without it being a couple of games and an injury type scenario. I think he's a solid 110 prospect, which leaves probably a 15 point range to miss and still win as a pick. He's always scored very well in SC, getting more tackles, more marking mismatches (mids as opposed to star defenders) and just more touches in general can't hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if like the Petracca, Bont, Danger and Martin types, he kicks just as many goals playing midfield as he did forward. It's often easier to push forward on badly mismatched midfielders than to operate as the centrepiece of the forwardline getting the Grimes, Weitering and Starcevich type elite defenders every week with a gameplan to stop you doing what you do best. You also can get lost when you do switch forward on the hando*** to those players and get weaker defenders as well.

Pink -> Howes (y)
Gawn -> Grundy :unsure:
Windsor -> ??? :unsure:

Had Grundy in for large chunks of the pre-season, if he's named as sole ruck again for Rd1 then I'll be swapping back.
Who was your other ruck then? Windsor's not exactly a fail, especially against a stifling Swans side at the SCG. I guess if you didn't have Roberts you could swap Windsor for him.

Think I'm baling on Gawn, maybe age is catching up with him finally?....who knows.
I know when I was playing Cricket at 32 and above, the pain, the injuries, tightness, niggles, fatigue, all seemed to just get worse and worse, it happens pretty suddenly too when it happens, then comes the loss of confidence.

Gawn took a few hard hits and looked hurt/gassed at various stages tonight. Will be interesting to see his recovery for next week. Still in my team. Would probably drop down to Xerri if Gawn scores drop off or he looks gamey?

Reckon we’ll see a lot of teams swing back to a 2/2/4 forward line from the 0/4/4 we have been seeing most of the pre season on the back of that game.

Howes and Robert’s both looking fieldable means it probably makes sense to cut the 5th mid Premo.

I’ve been pretty comfortable with Flanders for a while but the question me is whether Heeney is a 5ppg better pick than Jackson knowing he’s likely knocked out one of his biggest scores for the season in a game where no one can access his points.

Howes locked.

Billings > Harmes

Sheezel > Heeney - Classic knee jerk, hadn't been in side all season. Get ready for the Baker whiplash later this round. Was in many early drafts for me. (Move enabled by Lohman > N. Cox)

I posted this the 2024 early planning thread back in December..
"But I'm finding that my first efforts this season are always bumping into the possible impacts of that weird opening round.
I know I am going to be - rightly or wrongly - influenced by what players score in the OR"

So, its no surprise that I'm tweaking my team already.
I was also looking for a way to swing in Luke Jackson, so that move is incorporated here..

OUT - a couple of speculative picks I was really keen on - Wanganeen-Milera and Rayner - plus Jordan (I might still keep him somehow - could be interchangeable with T. Dow depending on how he shapes up)

IN - Jackson, Heeney. Howes (hadn't been on my radar but liked his game last night)

Heeney for me is about the role rather than the score, although I realise that can be chook lotto at Sydney.
I still think Gawn is a decent pick but am now considering Jackson at R1 for Heeney at F1. More a structural decision.
