Interesting stat re Pendles having played in front of 20 million people.

I wonder how many unique people he has played against? For example I estimate that I am about 35 to 40 of those 20M people. 😀

Wehr not looking like a great pick anyway but he probably stays in the team with Ward injured. McMullin the other likely to make way.

Thomas sub perhaps?
True

Think Cadman gets plenty of games this year so a solid fwd bench option, might pay to move Wilson to the mid bench to provide a link to the fwds/ give cover & flexibility over the byes

I feel like I'm pretty set actually, a couple of minor tweaks but not going to chase points.

Biggest dilema is who to take if any out of Green/Miller. One spot I feel and I think Miller is better value but Green will need to come in quickly.

Giants vs Pies - Surprisingly non-competitive game, thought this would be the best game and while the skill level may well have been the Pies just didn't show up after half time, probably hit their quota for time outside Victoria already and had to get back ;) Pies were just not efficient, goal kicking the obvious example but going forward they were very ordinary. Giants the opposite, finished well and surged well.

Giants - Would be delighted with that, quality win first up now need to avoid the letup against the minnows. Forwards were good, backs were good, mids were good. It was just a rock solid outing of sustainable footy.

Whitfield - Huge DT score, woeful ratio. I think he can improve on last year but given his durability record and the bye I'll not be starting him but he's not a bad shout, feels like he grew as the year went on last year and looks comfortable back in his old role.

Kelly - Role as feared, basically pure wing, might have had a couple of stints genuinely on ball but not many. He's a gun and will score anyway but think he's pretty fairly priced in that role.

Green - Well I said I wanted to see better ball use as the indicator for whether he can improve the 10+ he needs to and he was very clean today against quality opponents, albeit their intensity wasn't at normal levels. Just 1 clanger, his best last year was 3 and his average was 5, that's huge if he can stay anywhere near that. 120+ is a big ask but he's a genuine talent and another preseason should help him get towards it.

Ash - Big game from him, hard to see all their backs scoring like this every week but his role remains constant on last year. There's upside but not sure he can go far enough to take out the bye or be worthwhile.

Coniglio - Pure midfield role, will score somewhere in this range in that role.

Himmelberg - Defense as expected, played well, burned it a bit early which hurt and almost didn't participate in Q2 which also didn't help but still a strong first up score. Unlike the others he definitely has the value to pick through the bye, I'm just not sure he averages enough to be worth picking as he's in that keeper or bust kind of zone. Definitely one of the most interesting value plays down back though, imo.

Briggs - Was beastly at the stoppages, didn't really bother with anything else. He looked good. I think there's too much value with Grundy, Gawn and Xerri and top end scoring in English and Marshall but he's got the ability to go close to a Marshall if things go right. Durability also a huge problem.

Cadman - Really good Q1, not a lot after that but scraped a good enough first up score. He's not fieldable but his JS should be strong, he looks much better physically and he wont face the Pies every week either. He's a solid F8, his only real issue is the shared bye with so many other guys including Sexton and Flanders up forward but he's solid and Flanders M/F at least helps with that as well.

McMullin - Thought he was really good after coming on for Ward. Starting as sub, with some of the guys they have to come back, is his death knell for mine but he was good. Cadman on pure JS is ahead of him.

Wehr - He was solid but like McMullin the JS is a major concern. They've got Callaghan, Cumming, Jones and Perryman all lurking. I actually thought Wehr outplayed his score but the 48 isn't moving the needle in his favour and sharing the bye with so many relevant guys only compounds that. I'm actually not convinced there's better options without paying more but I'll probably take the punt on a Sharp or Clark type ahead of him. His role was solid, pure wing, but being on the wing opposite of Josh Kelly is kind of no man's land.

Greene - He junked together a decent score here but outside a fantastic goal I'm not really sure how. He moved firmly into the upgrade target category with this. Barring big position changes, he's a top 6 forward capable player, should be available at a good price as he has 5 or so of these types of game a year and Maynard is a top tier matchup for him. The only negative is they played so well around him that could see him being used more as a dummy.

Hogan - Just mentioning he had a bit of a knee tweak very late, didn't come off so assume ok but worth watching. If he's out I'm not sure if it helps or hurts Cadman, JS it's good but he gets the best defender.

Thomas - He played really well. Tough role and JS is going to be on an edge at all times, also a high sub risk. Overall, I'd be surprised if we don't have better options but he should get a game next week and North and WCE is going to be a much easier matchup for him.

Pies - Poor showing, just never really showed up to the game which when you're a primarily effort based team will bring you undone pretty quickly. It's funny they had almost twice as many tackles because if you'd asked me to guess I'd have thought they were the team doubled. Ultimately their poor finishing was the biggest difference and they just couldn't stop the Giants the couple of times they got a run on. We know they don't travel very often and I imagine having to start a season outside of Melbourne for the first time since 2016 probably did unsettle them a fair bit and honestly that's what it looked like, they were just off.

Cameron - Huge game but was soundly beat at the main job. Was surprised they didn't sub Cox to be honest. Really it's the exact same thing as Briggs for mine.

Jaicos - Really solid game, roamed everywhere, prolific but was mostly on a wing. Should score similar to last year.

Naicos - Pure midfield role, I wish he'd tackle more, he had a good half dozen easy tackles that he didn't try and make in this game, I know it's not his thing but could go to absurd levels if he would and it does hurt them as a team. So good with the ball, creative as ever and so skillful. Just rock solid. I dare say that those with or without him didn't get moved, we know what he is and nothing he showed was off script today. Did have a lot of cramp in Q4 and didn't run the game out at all well but not overly concerned, game was over and he shelved it. Honestly felt like he coasted to 130.

Maynard - Lot more offensive today than last year, wonder if they're going to use him in that fashion again. Wait and see for mine with the bye and a teammate worth picking a lot more at his position.

Schultz - Role was similar to at Freo, played decently. Nothing drastic changing to expect him to score at premium levels consistently.

Lipinski - Lot of preseason talk around him but role was same as past couple of years, HF with bursts, not a good role for him.

Crisp - Seemed a bit lost positionally, bit on ball, bit in defense, bit forward. Feels like his days of premium scoring are behind him.

Pendles - Huge H2 to put a somewhat decent score, mostly midfield and very low TOG.

Dean - Played as a lockdown defender, played well enough to hold his spot but the JS isn't there, feels like he only played because of Howe's injury and Howe just offers so much more in every other area that it's hard to see a case for him staying in the team, as harsh as that is after a solid debut. If he'd scored 120 then maybe there'd be a case over the Gibcus, Reid, Howes, et al group but I just don't see it personally.

De Goey - Had a mare. He looks good and role was alright but just not enough ball and not enough work.

Amazing how few PIes are fantasy relevant.

I don’t understand the AFL country footy ad. Why can’t the lady in the bus just go and pick up the team in the broken down bus and take them to the game, rather than drive around town rustling up a whole new team and then to the game and presumably straight past the broken down bus.
I really really wanna see a follow-up ad…I’m invested in the story
