GOLD Coast defender Wil Powell has been handed a five-game suspension by the AFL for making a ****phobic slur against a Brisbane player last Sunday night.

The AFL Integrity Unit has been investigating the matter since being made aware of the incident on Monday, following the incident in the QClash at the Gabba.

Powell has been found guilty of breaching AFL Rule 2.3(a) and been hit with a lengthy suspension for conduct unbecoming, which rules him out until round 14 and also prevents him from playing in the VFL.
Ridiculous.

Walyalup (Fremantle) appear likely to err on the side of caution with Sean Darcy this week, with the star ruckman shaping to miss Saturday’s reunion with former coach Ross Lyon and St Kilda.

Darcy was subbed out of the Dockers’ win over Richmond earlier this month, with the club labelling it a “conservative approach” to calf tightness.

But having sat out the ensuing loss to Sydney off a five-day break, Darcy is in line for another absence against the Saints, with midfield teammate Caleb Serong on Tuesday indicating the club would likely play it safe with the star big man ahead of this week’s trip to Melbourne.

“He will try to put his hand up. I’m sure they’ll probably try to keep him out another week and give him another week of training,” Serong told Triple M.

“We’ve got training (on Wednesday), so we’ll know more then. But I’m thinking he’ll probably have another week (out) – I’m not 100 per cent sure though.

If Darcy misses, it means the 2021 Doig medallist will have played just two full matches out of Fremantle’s past 17 games.

The 25-year-old sat out the back end of last season with an ankle issue and then made a delayed start to this year following knee surgery before his latest setback.

Serong said Darcy had been left frustrated by his fresh injury blow, which has again left Luke Jackson to shoulder the burden in the ruck.

“(Darcy) was a bit flat, obviously, with another little setback there,” Serong said.

“He’s had a very interrupted past 12 months.

Good news for Jackson owners (y)

Don't think Jackson understands what shoulder the burden means. 🙄
