Round 8:
Bonner > Dale
Cadman > Sweet
Dale has been ok, but not spectacular. Scores of 116, 103, 88 and 99 at an average of 101.5. Sweet has been good although not quite as good as we all hoped. Everyone jumped on so there’s no real relevance. Cadman only peaked 6k higher than I cashed out at. Bonner had a high BE and made 105k. Good trade? Absolutely not. 98, 108, and 100 after trading him out and has increased another 60k with another low breakeven.
Round 9:
Libba > Dunkley
Yeo > Moore
Comben > McKercher
Libba out indefinitely, had to move him on. Yeo had done his job and was injured, time will tell if I made the correct call. Traded out Comben over Roberts. Lost 66 points as I would’ve fielded Darcy over Roberts. Roberts lost 27k that round. Comben scores 98 then follows it up with an 80 and 100+ while making tons of cash. Dunkley scores 89 and 115 and locks me out of grabbing Fisher this week due to bye structure who scored 113 and makes 50k. Moore comes in and scores 76 and 66. McKercher scores 91, solid, but is injured and is out for who knows how long.
Round 10:
Reid > Sullivan
Roberts > Bont
Roberts out had to be done (a week too late). Sullivan wasn’t great with 51 but responded with 88 last night. Reid scores 138, manages to reach his breakeven and has easy matches coming up. Bont scores 93 on debut but thankfully backs it up with a 135.
Round 11:
Graham > Curnow
Clark > Freijah
Graham isn’t getting games and decided to cull over HGarcia, won’t know if that was correct for a few weeks. Cashed out on Clark with his 56 breakeven and 15 to stay in his price cycle next week. Thought he had maxed out. Not at all. 90 out of nowhere, makes 15k and will have a very low new breakeven. Freijah good with 76. DPP will be handy through the bye. And Charlie Curnow… suits my bye structure perfectly, decent BE, underpriced for what I think he can average and he dishes out 15 in 2 and a half quarters. Huge relief that he managed to score 90 in the end. The alternative was to save 354k but “lose” points on field. Richards scores 100.

Interesting that while the umpires are picking up all kinds of minor misdemeanors at critical times in a game one thing they rarely if ever do is ensure the player is in line with the mark. Yes they do it always when a player is taking a shot at goals but around the ground it seems you can stand anywhere.

Yesterday I saw a player take a mark 5 metres inside the boundary line on the forward flank. The man on the mark got the “stand” command. I always thought that the player with the ball was supposed to go back in a line with the goals and the man on the mark. But the player went back to take his kick and stood at least 10-15 metres in from the boundary line. That is a huge advantage as it makes it easier to centre the ball. Shouldn’t the umpire push him back around to get on line?

And yet on other occasions when a player is on his line, all he does is turn to look at kicking to another player and the umpire calls play on even when the player has not left his line. Baffling.

The 'safe' Tom Stewart at 630k for Hayden Young round 2. Enough side.

I'm struggling to think of a worse move I've ever made. Dropped a ridiculous amount of cash and continues to dish out average scores.

After 10 years of dominating, teams are finally paying him a lot of attention. Cats have changed the way they play and never use him out of defence and he only takes about 30% of the kick-ins.

Just wish he'd get injured so I can trade him. Quite sad that this will be my lasting memory of Tom Stewart in fantasy.

SUNDAY TEAMS
(Announced Thursday 6:20pm AEST; Finalised Friday 5:00pm AEST)

MONDAY TEAMS
(Announced Sunday 6:20pm AEST)

The AFL need to lift their game!
The team announcements are playing havoc with my OCD tendencies!
Sunday teams/squads announced on Thursday night, finalised on Friday, no problem.

But geez if a game should happen to creep into the next week and be played on a Monday, WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED to only announce their team a mere 21 hours before the game!!! Even on Thursday night games we get 24/25 hours to ponder the team selections before the game starts!
What's the effing difference when they announce emergencies anyway! Why are they allowed to have this time advantage over the rest of the comp if they happen to have the luxury of playing on a Monday instead of the Sunday, I don't get it!

What about their punting partners? How can they form an accurate market for these games if they don't have all the relevant data to process until 21 hours before the game? All that gambling revenue potentially lost because the punters don't have all the relevant info for them to make an informed bet? How is this responsible gambling?

A coupla quick added rants, to clear the mind for the weekend!

What if you're unlucky enough to be from WA or QLD, then you need to take an RDO, long lunch or a sickie to watch the King's Birthday game live! Surely to accommodate all supporters of AFL this game should be played later in the evening? Just not fair to the Northern and Western neighbours!

And before I forget, I really need to spew vile at the AFL for completely changing the rules of the game during a season!!
The reinterpretation of the holding the ball rule or NOT holding the ball during the middle of a season is just mind blowingly ignorant of just about every cohort that has even a remote interest in the game! The arrogance of the AFL to protect themselves (its not the players they are worried about!) and completely change a core component of the game, is beyond belief!

Thanks for reading!

Massimo D’Ambrosio.

Before I traded, he played like the Monstars before they stole the NBA player’s talent.

Instantly turned into MJ as soon as I traded. 3 tons and 44 at QT today.

Been a very difficult season with getting the starting premiums wrong and being punished to the nth degree. This was the icing on the cake.

What do you do when you don't even enjoy watching your own team anymore?...when they're so bad they just bore the hell out of you week in week out and you don't see any hope for the future. Ross the boss just seems to me, like some overpaid over chilled out dude in charge who doesn't really care what happens, as long as he's getting paid.
We don't seem to know how to recruit any high quality keeper players that aren't injury magnets. We don't really have any star players in the team and haven't for over a decade. I'm honestly thinking about barracking for someone else.
My own team, and all these rule changes and whatnot, are making me lose interest in the game itself, sometimes, I'm just going to a movie rather than watch the second half of a game. Doesn't help that I'm super busy trying to sell my house and have to devote a ton of time to that.
Rant over I guess, at least part one!

The AFL statement supporting the Yeo HTB decision is horrible. It doesn't matter that NM won the game. If WC kick that many points and get themselves that far behind then it is no use going off when you lose.

This is the AFL statement.

The video replay shows Yeo tackles the NM player, both players go to ground as the ball spills free, Yeo picks it up and is tackled immediately.

Yeo does not dive on the ball. The ball is on the ground in front of him. He picks it up and is on his knees when tackled. Yeo does not drag the ball back in as he never had the ball in the first place to drag it back in.

The field umpires are getting a hammering because the AFL changed the way they apply the rules and they have confused everyone from the coaches, players, fans and their own umpiring team. They have put their onfield umpires in terrible position. But that statement is not supported by the video evidence that I have seen and it looks like a desperate attempt to support the field umpires despite the evidence suggesting otherwise.

The more I think about it, the more it seems this is even worse than what you suggest. Because shortening of the time between possession and tackle wasn't the problem that needed to be addressed: it's the time spent in the tackle. That's where you were seeing players getting slung because the only alternative was to let the player stand in the tackle and get the ball away.

So not only is that genuine issue not getting addressed the game has now created extra confusion among all parties where there was none - or at least not quite as much. I hadn't seen that much footy last week so it hadn't really clicked for me, but it makes a lot more sense now.

Agree with all of this. There was absolutely no way though, that they were going to admit to being wrong in two games where the result could be considered compromised. This was the easier one to "provide an explanation" on why they were right, simply because they can claim 'we are interpreting the rules differently now'. Good one AFL
