Disappointed to see this news. He’s only 33 and is the white ball captain.

Contract means he is obligated to play in the SuperSmash.
No contract means he gets a nice little pay cheque to play SA20 or ILT20 instead (maybe plays BBL)
Sounds like he will focus on Tests for a while.
Champions Trophy next February , next T20 World Cup is early 2026.
Gives them time to get a new white ball captain ready

Looks like they have WTC series against
Sri Lanka (A) 2 Tests in Sep/Oct
India (A) 3 Tests in Oct/Nov
England 3 Tests in Nov/Dec
Then he can go and play T20 in the BBL/SA20/ILT20
while they have home white ball series vs Sri Lanka & Pakistan.
Have a Tri Nation series in Pakistan before the Champions Trophy.
No different to what Boult has been doing , fingers crossed he (Williamson) keeps playing Test cricket.
Be curious to see if he gets a MLC contract.
