The AFL are currently holding a poll regarding whether byes should be all in one round, or split over multiple rounds as it currently is.

Why am I not surprised the AFL are currently using the least popular option?

Feel free to vote, I'm not sure it will make a lot of difference to what does happen, but it's worth trying.
Apparently in the Bundesliga they have a six week break in the middle of the season, during the depths of winter.

I appreciate the logic of having it all in one weekend for the benefit of the coaches, players etc, but I would think that the life of an AFL player is already more manageable than that of an international cricketer, for example.

I actually enjoyed no Thursday night footy this round. Probably in the minority.

It would be interesting to know the public opinion on Thursday night footy, but it didn't get asked as a question in their fan survey, the closest was asking the preferred time slot to watch games. It is worth taking the survey below just to vote for one of the "no sub" options in one of the questions though (options are either 4 or 5 on the bench with no sub or 4 on the bench plus a sub):

Results of some of the questions asked in the survey have been revealed:

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1161703/fans-pick-the-best-player-best-coaches-fave-commentators

Bont best player, Daicos to be the best player who is currently under 21 in 5 years, McRae best coach, Anthony Hudson best commentator (at least it wasn't BT), Hodge best expert commentator.

Think Mitchell was a bit stiff to only be 5th best coach personally (I'm possibly a bit biased). Very underrated coach. Video below from last week is a good example of how he gets the best out of a fairly young group of players:

Hoping they do report the rest of the results in coming days. There's a couple of questions I do want to know the results to.

Those results seemed pretty sensible to me, but I was surprised at the choice of Hodge.

Then I saw this … perhaps the size of the Channel 7 audience has skewed the results:

When it comes to television commentators, Fox Footy's Anthony Hudson was out in front with 23 per cent of the vote, while Channel 7 duo Brian Taylor (17) and James Brayshaw (15) rounded out the top three.

Opinion was split regarding the best expert commentator on TV, with Channel 7 pair Luke Hodge (15 per cent) and Matthew Richardson(13) at the top and Fox Footy's Jason Dunstall(12) and Nathan Buckley (10) the only other pundits to crack double figures.

Depends if you place any weight on the opinions of those involved in the survey and the portion of club supported representative in the sample size and whether they can make decisions without bias. Also depends on what criteria people associate with best coach and how to delineate between a great coach or a great playing list.

More surprising was Richardson in second and BT and JB just about tripling Bennett and Hill combined but then was expected given the listing order of the possible responses and the expectation of minimal time and consideration spent and the audience pandered to. Now watch all the executives extrapolating out the results as the basis for keeping the status quo.

I voted for Dermy, Hodge would've been my last choice, don't mind Richo either, he's quite honest and unpretentious.

To put contract deals into perspective July 1 was Bobby Bonilla day. Bonilla played MLB and was a star for a number of years including winning a World Series with the Marlins. But in 2000 he was on the decline when playing for the Mets. They wanted to cut him but he was owned $5.9m on his contract. So his manager and the Mets struck a deal. They deferred the payout for a decade. So instead of getting$5.9m immediately, starting on July 1 2011 and on July 1 for every year after that till 2035 he gets paid $1.19m. He is 61 currently. Nice deal if you can get it.

Dusty to the Suns on $100,000 for next year and then a deferred payment till 2030 of $1m. A $1m deal in 2030 will probably be chicken feed and fit in the salary cap easily.

This survey just proves 36% of people should be ignored.

At least the majority voted for getting rid of the sub. Hopefully that helps it happen.

BT and Brayshaw shouldn’t be in the top 1053 of speaking about anything let alone this.

Most people sing better with a few drinks in them, she seemed to forget how to sing at all  When she hit that high note it literally made me cringe ha-ha
