Accumulates enough ball dependent on game style but a very poor defender. Bit of a nothing player and surplus to needs in a rebuild if they feel they have sufficient depth. New coach looking to adopt a new game style may not suit his strengths. May be better left to an Eagles supporter to chime in but I feel his ball use and speed was not up to scratch.

I know Ethan Phillips was mostly injury insurance, but he didn't look completely lost in his one game.

Might be a club out there that needs a 3rd tall defender on their list (or a 4th, as insurance again).

The Witherden trade was a weird one from the start. He played almost every game at the Lions from his debut up until end of 2019. It was only his last year (2020) that his form dropped. Lions seemed very happy to get rid of him as they only got a third round pick and a future third round. Plus they agreed to pay part of his salary.

Then after we thought we got a handy player for a bargain he only plays 9 games in his first season. Fans were wondering why but clearly something wasn’t clicking or he got on the wrong side of someone. And after that he never really cemented his team spot although he played 22 games in 2023 (we had nobody else I suppose). He seemed to be a boom or bust player. Huge games sometimes but MIA other times and you cannot say the ball wasn’t down the backline a lot in the past few years. Think there were issues about his decision making but he once scored 170 SC in a game so he must have been able to get it right some of the time. New coach so a clean out bound to happen.
