Bloody George Russell killing my stupid Max (C) double Red Bull trade in moves this week in Qualifying by crashing when Perez has no time and Max is about to go clear P1. This is why you don't make silly trades

The only thing worse is the awful British commentary and their genuine joy that Russell ruined qualifying because it helped Lando. I really wish you could not have the UK coverage of F1, they're so awful.

I also did the same, so I feel your pain! Controversial as it was glad Max held on to P3 and spewing Russell got past Perez at the end.

Jumped into the top 10, probably too far away but it's tightening up at the top!

Don't bother looking for quali results, there aren't any! Torrential rain and they couldn't run it.

Quali now starts at 9:30pm AEDT tonight - that is 7:30am local! - and the race is moved forward to 2:30am AEDT tomorrow.

Just watched the race replay. Clearly a masterful display from Max in the wet but it was a tough watch having traded out Max for Piastri (who looked a must have after the sprints). Considered traded out Sainz instead but Ferrari have looked vastly superior to Red Bull recently.

I have never understood why drivers can change tyres when there is a red flag. It seems grossly unfair to those that have already pitted. The top 3 in today’s race didn’t make a pit stop.

Agree that changing tyres under a red flag gives a large element of luck, but if you want to ban it then you should also ban changing tyres under SC or VSC as that also gives a lucky advantage to those that do.

I thought about the SC and VSC when I made the comment and I suppose the difference I see is that it isn’t necessarily a given that you pit under SC or VSC. You still have to make the right strategic call based on the race situation.

Having thought about it a bit more I acknowledge that preventing teams from changing tyres during a red flag would a seriously disadvantage those drivers that haven’t pitted yet because the field condenses and when those cars do pit they will likely come out near the back. Therefore not as simple as I first thought.

Agree with this distinction, safety car has genuine strategy calls over whether the saved time is worth pitting. Definitely can be some lucky/unlucky timings but there's also the ones where someone stays out for track position and it works or fails.

Also would love no changes under a red flag, I hate the aspect that they basically refuse to go on wets waiting for someone to bin it and cause a red flag so they can wait out the rain. To be fair, I hate red flags in general. They absolutely shouldn't count as a tire change if you do change under red though, imo.

I am a bit torn on the red flag scenario. While hanging out in the wet hoping for a red flag to do a tire change can be very advantageous, there is a risk that with slippery conditions and wearing tires that you are the one that causes the red flag and are out of the race.
