Don’t think he opens with Bancroft and Warner there, but he may bat at 3 depending on what they decide to do with Davies. Would prefer Davies at 3, but the Thunder may want him to bat through the middle overs rather than be exposed to the power play.
Think Bayliss may favour experience especially when the teams just finished last, would be a big call to pick the kid with zero T20 experience at 3.

Bancroft played plenty of 3. Id expect him to slide down. Warner and Bancroft in the top 3 with billings at 4. Plenty of experience there.
The other problem is that Konstas averaged under 5 in the grade T/20 comp earlier in the season as an opener. Would say he’d need to show some form in the warmups to even be considered in that top 3.

The more I think about it, the more I think they’ll just throw Gilkes in at 5 and go with Warner, Bancroft, Davies and Billings as the top 4. Then you have Gilkes, Rutherford (availability may be an issue here), Sams, McAndrew, Green, Ferguson and Sangha.

From memory, Rutherford is going to miss the start isn't he? Means two of Gilkes/Jason Sangha/Konstas should play the first game.

Bit of a smokie and could be a bolter for round one if signed spinner Callum Stow.

Linked to Melbourne Renegades as a local replacement player for Nathan Lyon.

currently playing for Victoria in the Global Super League.

Past 2 games
3/15 (4) 104sc
1/17 (4) 68sc

Renegades normally like to play 2 spinners and only have Zampa atm (Lyon with Aus)

+ 1/23 (4) today v the Qalandars.

Only took 2 wickets in 6 matches in the Top End Series but cheap enough to start if necessary (I have too many bowlers I want to include already)

Think we might get quite a few cheapies starting Round 1 , just need to figure out the right ones to select onfield or bench

Renegades have a practice match on the 12th so they might actually finalise their Squad (did read weeks ago Crone & Harris were going to be 2)

Still think Rocchiccioli gets picked up by someone before the season starts.

Greetings esteemed colleagues, it is a privilege to share another BBL season with this most erudite and knowledgeable group and it is always much appreciated.

As usual I present to you for your amazement and wonderment, or alternatively scorn and derision, or apathy, my current team selection.

I am assuming that Webster, Maxwell, Turner, Inglis, Sutherland etc are out for round 1 and have $265,000 left in the bank to allow me to bring them in if they become available or alternatively to use to bring Short in to Round 2 if that seems the go or bring in other players in Round 2 without stress.

Last year the Stars had a great fixture like this year however going heavy on the doubles because of their fixture was a trap which Gumwah does not wish to repeat this year, particularly if Maxwell and Webster are out for the first round.

This team selection allows for 7 players on the double in Round 1 and already contains 6 players on the double in rounds 2-4 so with three transfers in each there would be 9 DGR players in those three rounds with the two boosts still remaining. I’d rather have more DGR players in these rounds than in Round 1 when there is not as much choice. Salzmann comes in for looping if necessary at the expense of someone like Mack Harvey.

I have mostly picked players with very good recent performance like Johnson, Stoinis and Zampa who are well priced, or players like Renshaw, McKenzie and Bazley who are cheap with the potential of good price gains or who like Curran and Thornton have great roles.

All the best to all.
But where is Sams ?

If both Maxwell and Webster do miss Round 1 it certainly does open up a lot more possibilities though to include BH/SS options in our starting sides.

Would you mind pointing me to where you see/find a schedule for practice matches, please? I had a look around this morning but couldn't find anything..

thank you

Round 5 or 6 probably!
Go early

Massive POD

I do like the Edwards & Johnson pick though.

Have too many bowlers I like but certainly looking at Johnson (& Abbott)

Liking Edwards , Kerr & Philippe as well

Waiting to see what happens with Hosein and if he is here sooner than expected.

Too many things still unanswered at the moment to lock in much at all

Certainly worth following each day for the info/insights Ben and his team provide or becoming a member.

I even became a member so happy to give them a plug

Have you heard any updates on Ferguson's injury and if he is right to go for the start of BBL ?

Waqar Salamkheil confirmed by the Hurricanes

6 games before going to the ILT20
Still not added yet , probably trying to work out who he is

Hasn't played white ball cricket for Afghanistan so curious what "pricing formula" they use.

Rishad was (is) $ 85k

If Rutherford isn’t playing to begin, I’d say Salzmann is a chance to start the season batting at 7 and sharing overs with Sams and the 3rd seamer.

@Herbie66 If Ferguson’s injury is significant enough to keep him out early, then having extra options via allrounders (or Jason Sangha) is going to be very important as none of our top 4 I mentioned earlier bowl well enough in T/20 to be relied on as a 6th option.

I don’t remember a season where we haven’t played the majority of games with 6 bowlers options. I doubt that will change this season.

I thought I read somewhere , possibly on SC Playbook that Salzmann hasn't been bowling and playing as a opener (will need to check).

Hopefully the WI announce that T20I Squad ASAP.

Also read somewhere that Hope would miss 3 rounds which probably opens up a spot for Doran/Owens/Wakim.

Maybe they sign a short term OS for Rutherford.

Certainly could see them playing 5-6 until he arrives , so that might only mean one spot for Gilkes/Konstas/J Sangha.

Imagine Bancroft , Billings , Davies & Warner would be locks.

Warner might want to bowl himself 😀

If Ferguson was ready to go would certainly make a very interesting POD to start.
