+ 1/23 (4) today v the Qalandars.

Only took 2 wickets in 6 matches in the Top End Series but cheap enough to start if necessary (I have too many bowlers I want to include already)

Think we might get quite a few cheapies starting Round 1 , just need to figure out the right ones to select onfield or bench

Renegades have a practice match on the 12th so they might actually finalise their Squad (did read weeks ago Crone & Harris were going to be 2)

Still think Rocchiccioli gets picked up by someone before the season starts.
Crone & Harris confirmed by the Renegades

Saying Squad complete but I count 14 local + 3 OS + 1 OSR

Thought you needed minimum 15 local players 🤔

This feels like the hardest year to put together a starting team for some time, although I'm sure I say the same every year!

Here's where I am currently:
1000007380.png
Given it looks like both Inglis and Webster won't be released there'll need to be at least one change. But that can wait til we know who it is.

Renegades have a lot of really interesting picks. I think that I'm happy to run four of them, but there's good cases for nearly anyone in their round 1 XI.
JFM, Brown, Seifert looks a total lottery where you can just bet one of them will go massive and the other two will go 4 and 5.
Sutherland has the bowling query over him but is almost certainly the best captain option if Curran doesn't work out.
Hassan I don't know anything about but an all rounder at that price (especially if Sutherland isn't bowling) is great value.
Zampa has been underperforming in the BBL for a little while now relative to just how good he is.
K Richo is a risk but has the best role of the bowlers and he only needs to make it through two games - he doesn't have to be a long term hold like the Stars do.
O'Neill is in awesome Shield form but I'm much more skeptical about form carrying over from Shield cricket for bowlers because of the different objectives that the bowlers have in each format. He's also not as cheap as I thought he would be.
Jono Wells will somehow end up being their best scorer despite all this.

The Thunder cheapies are kinda placeholders but I think Konstas will play unless he gets a Test call up, and I do like running the extra donut.

Hey everyone. Back for another year of torture. Current lineup after a bit of reading through the thread. Thanks Herbie and others for the constant updates.
If Webster isn’t available he’ll become Hardie who also may be injured. Inglis probably becomes Tye if he’s unavailable. No Short and unlikely I’ll get him round 2 either is a worry.

Article from The Western Australian yesterday

Big Bash League: Likely XI for Perth Scorchers’ opening clash against Melbourne Stars

Perth Scorchers’ Big Bash League campaign begins with a blockbuster home clash against Melbourne Stars in less than a week.

So The West Australian’s Jackson Barrett has taken a look at who could line up in orange on Sunday night as some Scorchers stars race the clock to be fit.

Likely Perth Scorchers XI v Melbourne Stars

Sunday night, Optus Stadium

1. Finn Allen (international, debut)
2. Josh Inglis (c)
3. Keaton Jennings (international, debut)
4. Aaron Hardie
5. Sam Fanning
6. Cooper Connolly
7. Nick Hobson
8. Ashton Agar
9. Jhye Richardson
10. Andrew Tye
11. Lance Morris

Squad: Mahli Beardman, Jason Behrendorff, Sam Fanning, Matt Kelly, Keaton Jennings, Matthew Hurst, Matthew Spoors

I am guessing the extra Fanning & Jennings is meant to be Marsh & Turner

Perth cricket boss Kade Harvey told The West Australian this week staff are “bullish” Cooper Connolly will be fit to play the opening match after breaking his finger in a one-day international a month ago. Surgery on the fourth finger on his bowling hand has fast-tracked Connolly’s recovery bid.

Ashton Agar sprained the AC joint in his shoulder during a Sheffield Shield match for Western Australia last month, but The West understands he has returned to bowl in the nets this week and remains hopeful of playing.

Captain Ashton Turner injured his rib playing grade cricket for Fremantle last Saturday and missed the shield clash with New South Wales this week.

The Scorchers have left the door open to him playing on Sunday night, but concede the second match of the season is more realistic.

Aaron Hardie has not played since the end of Australia’s Twenty20 series against Pakistan as he battles a quad issue.

He is not a lock to play the season opener, but is a strong chance to land in the side as a specialist batter.

His recovery is managed by Cricket Australia.

Josh Inglis was released by Australia’s Test squad, where he had been the reserve batter, to play a shield match in Sydney this week.

He could be released again to play for Perth, given the third Test begins on Saturday.

That decision could be made as late as Friday.

Fast bowlers Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris are both on tightly-managed Cricket Australia programs as they build their bowling loads.

Morris has played two four-day matches in a row, while Richardson was parked this week with an eye towards the BBL.

There is a chance Morris is given a breather at some point in the tournament, but Richardson should be primed and ready.

Fellow quick Matt Kelly has been battling a quad issue and has sat out of matches for WA, but his recovery has been built around the BBL and he appears set to be fit.

England internationals Keaton Jennings and Matthew Hurst both arrived in Perth early for an extended build-up.

The whispers are Jennings has been hitting the ball very well and there may not be room for both of them and New Zealand blaster Finn Allen in the top order.

Jason Behrendorff has returned from the Abu Dhabi T10 competition and will likely fight for his spot in the bowling attack with Kelly and fellow Scorchers great Andrew Tye if both Richardson and Morris are fit to start the season.

Can't see Behrendorff not playing personally

Pretty sure you can have 19 listed players, thats what the Stars have and a few teams were the same last year.

They only have 18 though (14 local+ the 4 OS players)

Every other club has 15 local + 3 OS and OS replacements where applicable

maybe they have got permission

I would be working on a plan to get Short in for Round 2 or maybe you will be a genius fading him

Maybe the equation in Round 2 becomes M Short and a cheap SGR (eg v Stoinis/Zampa) v say Overton + Behrendorff/Hardie for similar price.

Short & Stoinis cost $ 388,400.00

Overton & Hardie cost $ 385,500.00

Do they give you similar scores in round 2 though , based on last season's averages

Short (C) & Stoinis 103 x 4 + 28.50 = 440.50

Overton (C) & Hardie 70. 3 X 4 + 60.2 x 2 = 401.60

closer than I thought

@Herbie66

I was going to quote your whole post but the thing that stood out was the prediction Behrendorff wouldn’t be in the xi! I think that’s simply insane given his performances over his career.

The other factor is if Hardie isn’t ready to bowl, having the extra seamer at Optus will be very important. Probably see Hobson or Fanning drop out of the predicted eleven.

Yeah not sure where he got his intel from , Behrendorff stood out to me , you would think ideally (if everyone is available) their preferred structure would be :-

5 Turner
6 Conolly
7 Agar

+ the 4 quicks

Imagine Hardie would stay @ 3 as well

Fanning could be a smokie opening (instead of Jennings) scored 31 (20) v the Strikers last season opening

Jennings has opened in 40 of his 80 Innings looking at Big Bash Board

Agree, if Behrendorff is fit then he would be one of the first picked in the team - absolute star in this format.

Modus operandi for the West Australian with next to no credibility and achieves their expected response.

Based on what I’ve read I think we’ll line up like this,

Allen
Jennings
Hardie C
Inglis WK
Hurst
Connolly
Hobson
Richardson
Tye
Morris
Behrendorff

Obviously hinges on Inglis being released as well as Turner and Agar being fit, Hobson and one of Hurst or Jennings to drop out when both with one of the internationals to open.

Shows how much the West knows when you’re leaving out Behrendorff 🙄

curious to see how many here are fading Matt Short? I am massive on fading him and won't be in my side for at least the first 2 rounds.
won't be in my starting side

working like crazy to get him in my Round 2 side but that price comparison (Short + Stoinis v Overton + Hardie) has got me thinking

does Overton get his bowling workload managed ? (interesting heard him on a interview that the Strikers analyst last season told him they recommended him for his batting capabilities and bowling was a bonus) , Strikers could have 7 bowling options at least

how fit is Hardie and how much bowling does he do ? if agar & Connolly are both right to go then they will have 6-7 options each game as well

any whispers on the Hurricane lineup and who out of Doran/Owen/Wakim gets first crack until Hope arrives ?

any chance owen could open instead of Jewell ?

Definitely not touching round 1, have a look at the bowling mix but there’s a good chance that he’ll be a bat only if all of Allen, Pope and Boyce play.
Posted this week's ago

Data is still available , Short last season

927 points

Runs = 509 SR = 145 Bonus = 60 714 from Batting (Ave 79.33 SC points per game from Batting alone 😱 ) Wkts = 80 Dot Balls = 43 ER = 60 183 from Bowling Catches = 30 points 30 from Fielding

who would be the Round 2 captain option ? queries on a few of the other high priced AS/PS players

like Allen but not sure how much bowling he will do each game either , confirmation of his availability would be nice

full strength they will (most likely) have the 4 specialist bowlers + Allen , Overton & Short (maybe even 2 of them)

interesting few days coming up

Marcus Harris and Xavier Crone sign for BBL|14
1h ago

The Melbourne Renegades have bolstered their squad ahead of BBL|14, signing Victorian duo Marcus Harris and Xavier Crone.

Harris, a seasoned opener with international experience, returns to the Renegades, bringing consistency and class at the top of the order.

He made an outstanding start to the domestic season with the Vics, opening his campaigns with a half-century in the One-Day season opener against before backing up with a century and half-century in the Shield.

A member of the Gades' BBL|08 championship winning team said he's looking forward to being back in red.

"It's great to be back with the Renegades," Harris said. "It's exciting with Whitey (Cameron White) taking over and the squad the club has put together.

Looking forward to getting back to where I've played most of my BBL," Harris said.

Crone, a promising fast bowler, steps back into the Big Bash arena after strong performances for Victoria.

His summer has been superb, taking 15 wickets at Shield level, as well as a crucial half-century in his first red ball game of the season.

Armed with pace and accuracy, Crone bolsters the Renegades’ lineup with his talents with both bat and ball.

"I’m excited to get this opportunity with the Renegades, can't wait to be involved this season," Crone said. "I feel like I'm really ready this year to get in and have a crack."

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten welcomed the additions, highlighting their potential impact.

"Marcus is a world-class batter who brings a wealth of experience and a calm presence at the crease," Rosengarten said.

"Xavier is a rising talent with the ability to make a real difference with both bat and ball, and we’re excited to see him thrive in the Big Bash environment."

The Renegades’ BBL|14 campaign begins on 16 December, with Harris and Crone set to play key roles in the team’s quest for success.
