Initial reactions to the flex spot have many people going for another ruck. Looking at rucks who ave 110 or more in recent seasons the first glance numbers look like this.
2022 Gawn (113) and Witts (110)
2023 English (128) and Marshall (114)
2024 Gawn (124), Xerri (120), Marshall (112) and Nank (110)
Compare this to mids that ave 110 or higher (to many to name)
2022 17
2023 15
2024 14
So would it be better to have a consistently high scoring mid? I know rucks can have a high ceiling but given the number of mids that score high would it be easier to hit one of them than a ruck? Consider that now if a ruck got injured for a week or two and your bench ruck wasn't playing this no longer matters as the flex score becomes your R2 score effectively. So you can carry a DNP ruck for as long as you want without trading.
Early days and more thought about strategy options will go into this no doubt.
