Had a look again after a two week break. I need to beat my kids this year as they beat me. Not having Short does that. Switched out short for Overton and wonder if I need to leave more cash to bring him back in. Any advice appreciated. 62000 cash. IMG_0328.png

Reset your Emergencies

Harper and Hurst both lock out Game 1 🤔

Hosein not here but like the deliberate 🍩 idea ✓

Would probably get at least 1-2 Scorchers bowlers for Round 2 preparation although I do like both Abbott & Edwards

Threw this team together literally in five minutes.

Feel free to pick it apart.

Clarke (Harper)

Bethell, JFM, Sutherland, Webster, Curran, (Bazley, Inglis)

Zampa, Jhye, Stoinis, Kane, Dorf, (Buckngham, Doggett)

Overton
Took about 20 minutes to play with this thanks to @mike89 and @Darkie for their earlier input.

Squad is now:

Doran (C loop), Clarke

Webster (V), Curran, Sutherland, JFM, Brown, (Connolly, Bazley)

Dorf, Kane, Stoinis, Zampa, McKenzie, (Jhye, Allen)

Overton

As before, feel free to pick apart.

Can't see the point of the Scorchers moving Connolly back up the order , looks a natural as a finisher @ 6.

Allen
Fanning 🤔
Jennings
Turner
Hurst (WK)
Connolly
Agar

Throw a crazy move and Agar opens with Hobson @ 7

Can I copy it ? looks quite good

If Jhye scores well enough you lose Kane or Zampa

If Connolly scores well enough you lose Sutherland , Fraser-McGurk or Brown

Not sure about Bazley , Wildermuth same price , Warner talking about Konstas opening

EDIT : Doggett not released so maybe their is a spot for Bazley.

Haven't seen any updates on Buckingham , they could choose a extra bat as well though or maybe play Scott

Thank goodness for inanimate carbon rods local replacement players!

Liked the Edwards (E) and Strikers swing setup a few weeks ago when I first saw it

Edwards potentially the highest averaging player for BBL 14

Overton * / Edwards (E) , Allen *

/ Boyce or Thornton , Scott * (or Bazley *)

What score would you take from Edwards to bench Overton though ?

Entire team probably doesn't allow getting in M Short though for Round 2 which could be season defining one way or the other.

If you forget all about M Short so many cheapies and value on offer you get some very strong starting teams and combinations , so many options

Anyone have any idea if Abbott will be required to return to the test squad at some point? Wouldn’t be ideal to start with him, only to have him miss his DGW
That's the big unknown

Boland & Doggett with the Squad so do they need another "spare" ?

Does Doggett get released for Round 2 ?

Does Inglis get released for Round 2 ?

Does Webster re-join the Squad again at some stage in case Bison is sore ?

So much uncertainty to look ahead , might be a lot of day by day changing and planning going on depending on updates.

Heard he is in the starting X11 as Morris replacement.
How do you think the Stars will structure their batting line-up ?

If Maxi eventually opens and Duckett is 3 or 4

Clarke then Maxwell
Rogers
Webster
Harper (WK) then Duckett
Stoinis
Cartwright

If Curran is @ 7 , Harper will just slide down.

Or if Stoinis goes 4 , Duckett 3 , Webster is 5 (or could he open and Rogers goes to 5)
.

Hopefully this is my last iteration before the toss tomorrow night. $56,900 bank.

I hadn't quite grasped just how bad the situation was at keeper because my plan was always to take Inglis. With him off the board, it really is a dumpster fire of options... I'm even considering just taking Clarke and kicking the can down the road.

I'm still bullish on Short to be the best round 2 captain option (especially with Hardie injured) and therefore I think he has to start. My general rule for planning ahead doubles is to have anyone you're absolutely certain about the week before rather than trying to carry through one of your more speculative options, and even someone like Overton falls into this category for me because we don't know if they're going to manage his bowling load at all. Those overs for a guy batting at 6 matter a lot more than Short's overs in determining the quality of the role.

I did notice @7/11 point out that Fabian Allen is a powerplay spin merchant as well - I think Short being the captain shouldn't be underestimated here. There are essentially two types of bowling captains: those who bowl themselves less when they take over the role, or those who bowl more. Short is perfectly happy to be the latter even with a deep spin attack, so I'm not substantially worried about loss of role there either.

More to the point, there's enough value to make this strategy work. With a lot of the big hitters out (Maxwell obviously being the key piece here) there aren't a lot of must have players at crazy prices. The seas have parted for a guy like Konstas as well to get a potentially plum role.

Only other thing I need to think about is whether to sacrifice a bit this round for future rounds. I don't like doing that on principle because I feel like you should take what's available now on current information and be able to adapt as you go. Heat is a team I feel like I should have exposure to but I think Munro is the only one I like at the price.

Really struggling this time around.

Have any good/recent/worthwhile podcasts been released recently that may help?
SC Playbook and Honeyball are both good.

If you’re short on time, browse recent episodes for relevance - eg those relating to round 1 teams, or those with the round 1 double (Stars and Renegades) or locking out first (Stars and Scorchers). You can then listen to other/older episodes if you have time.
