Didn't play at all last season either , be curious how much he takes out of their salary cap or is it centred around games played mainly ?
Bethell certainly appears now to have one of the best roles in the game , not sure of his ownership numbers in the Top 1 or 5 %
Wonder if they try something different and open with him

Curious for thoughts on Sutherland generally. At this stage I basically have him as a hedge for Bethell (they'll get at least four overs between them, after all) but the role is deteriorating by the day and his batting hasn't been good enough to make up for it. I actually think Wells in really hurts him because Wells actually knows how to bat in the middle overs unlike the entire rest of their team.
He does, however, fit into the category of "captains who insist on being more involved in the game" potentially even to the team's detriment.
At the moment I have him as E but could swing Turner back in to that spot instead.

Preferred way to frame the situation rather than the club coming out and saying he is surplus to the needs and admitting the signing was a waste and that the Scorchers and Sixers are the only sides that competently construct their rosters and take the competition seriously. Alternatively, the player comes out and says that they don’t want to waste time in a meaningless hit and giggle and instead look ahead to other commitments.
Keep all parties happy with this believable excuse that everyone will eat up and frame as a means of the player allowing others an opportunity on the list. Player comes out and says they would have loved to participate and kept pushing for selection but the big bad CA wouldn’t allow it.

Yeah the concern is, does he get enough balls to face to get to 20 runs. Batting at 7 is far from ideal and while in previous years there was the potential for him to float, I can't see it happening this year.
He should get his 4 overs in most of the time and the fact he bowled in the power play last game was a positive. No Fergus is probably a positive for that, but they could just as easily give Sandhu and Richo one each (Rogers two at the other end).
The fact he's playing this round means I can't really get rid of him, but he's probably a highly owned guy that's a viable anti-pod. He has the occasional big game (like the Sixers this season) which hurts if you don't have him, but most of the time he's a little uninspiring (although for some reason he's always talked up).
Comparing with Turner is a tough one. Turner normally doesn't bowl, but bats higher (and is a better bat), although being behind (potentially) Allen, Marsh, Hardie and Connolly has a similar role in that he comes in expecting to go from ball 1 (which can be hit and miss).

Based on the 'available through the regular season' for a bunch of the test squad, I'd surprised if anyone's availability was affected.
