Just on the Port CBA’s who was the second ruck player at the end of the season?
Looking at post #34 shared by Shannon clearly Sweet from Rd 15 onwards but there’s no clear indication of the second ruck.
And did that cost the Port mids some clearances/points in the run home?
Looks like he’s doing the extra %’s to improve going to the US to get an understanding of his body etc. along with some natural progression think it’ll be whether he finishes in the top 6 or not and atm can’t see why he wouldn’t.

It should be either Finlayson or Lord this year.

Thanks 👍
Thought I was going crazy totally didn’t see Dixon on the post of Shannon’s! Thought I needed New glasses and gotta get off the phone start using the computer! lol
But Dixon was just around the ground/ in the forward line I assume.
Was looking at Finlayson last year until he got suspended for comments! Is he available from Rd 1?

45 CBA's from a total of 267 ruck contests for Dixon.

Finlayson 58 from 158 ruck contests. I'm not sure on the availability of Finlayson, but I think Lord was a little behind in his preseason.

305k isn't a bad price if it were any other season. A decent pick in a MPM comp or draft though.

Port CBA numbers last season :-

JHF scores each round :-

If his CBAs are 50+ then confident he will score well.

Willem Drew had foot surgery last week, for a planta fascia release so will be missing a big chunk of preseason - maybe out for a month so will be underdone going into the season. Expect Port ease him into the season, JHF might be one that gets an uptick in his CBA numbers to start the season.
I like JHF but he's so insanely inconsistent and will definitely get attention if he plays well and has historically handled that about as well as a fish does the desert.

Given his bye, and it's value, I'd need to have a pretty strong feeling he's going 115+ to start him, just not the type that's likely to put together a run that gets his price out of hand. Last year his price basically stayed within 50k for the whole season despite 6 scores of 115+.

Definitely think he improves and if I'm picking a premium keeper then he's the best bet up forward but I'm not sure I wouldn't rather punt on Rankine with a far better bye. Especially if Daniel and Parker both make it to round 1 looking good along with all the other options.

Especially have concerns he gets marooned up forward with all their injuries in the KP positions.

Totally ready to restructure to get him though if he's playing pure mid and looking amazing. I do think he's got a 115+ season in him under the right situation, albeit not sure that exists at Port with Butters and Rozee there already.

Above from a report on match sims/training reports thread as posted by @Professor. Sheezel forward like this is interesting from a DPP perspective. If he were to get D/F he would probably be a top forward and moving him there allows you to pick a rising defender replacement which will be easier than finding a similar scoring forward. However question then becomes are you likely taking a serious hit on his starting price.

It’s a good point. I suspect that Sheezel would score well relative to most other forwards if he played there … but given he’s priced at 118, and the best player who played >35% forward last season only averaged 100, you’d have to think Sheezel could be brought in much cheaper in that scenario.

You would think Sheezel would still play more midfield than deep forward. A bit of a Dusty role start midfield and drift forward and be dangerous. He is more likely to get D/M than D/F.

Daniel, Macrae, BSmith, Sanders, Parker, Rankine, Horne Smith. 7 possible premos? 6 spots. Plus anyone who gets dual position during the year. Marshall, Sheezel, Petracca........ who knows. Plus we could have a few decent forward cash cows.

Not just thinking about the starting team but how it looks on the run home as well.

Parker and Macrae are the fading stars. Sanders the breakout.

Parker in 2023 averaged 96 with 75% CBA's. 33 yrs old this year. Unlikely to get 75% CBA's, unlikely to get the same opportunities in the forward line to prop up his score. Rnd 12 bye so can't be a slingshot. I think he's a decent pick but is probably behind the others as a potential keeper.

Hard to fade Macrae if he's in the Saints midfield. Can be a slingshot from rnd 13 if needed. Was only given 36% CBA's in 2023 and still averaged 100. 31 this year, not the same competition for spots he had at the bulldogs.

Sanders VFL numbers were pretty good. How much of a promotion does he get? Does he have the ceiling to be 100+? Can't be a slingshot.

Can't have them all. I'm likely to give Parker and Sanders a miss and try and find the cash generation somewhere else.

I’m of the same thinking!!!

JHF, Macrae, Smith & Daniel are all locked in my side!!!

Rankine looks to be a great starting selection as well, injury concerns are the only thing holding me back…

Parker and Sanders will come under consideration but both have competition for midfield spots and concerns with their respective ages!!!

I actually think they're good picks and would love to put them in the backline. They would have a minimum 20pts on their starting price and maybe 30. I just can't fit them into the forwards or mids. And if they aren't needed as keepers I should be chasing quicker money with a cheap cash cow.

A very good case can be made for starting each of the following and TBH I'd like to start all of them.

JHF
Rankine
Macrae
Smith
Daniel
Parker
Sanders
Lynch
SPP
H Garcia
Maric
Hewett
Erasmus
Curtain
Davidson

And that's not mentioning Moore and Daniels, nor some likely DPP recipients or Phillipou who could be available come round 7.

My team currently has the following, but roles and best 23 mean it's all subject to change.

Macrae
Smith
Daniel
Parker
Sanders
Lynch
SPP
Maric
Hewett
Erasmus
Davidson

What's the pass mark for a $350k-$400k forward?

I've not had Bailey Smith in any drafts so far but see him in a lot of teams. In 2023 he played 19 games at 80. If you got that this year, that's a fail: not much cash gen; not a premium.

What happened in 2023? Was he played out of position? Off-field issues? Playing while injured?

Have we seen evidence that things will be much different at Geelong? Guess we get R0 to have a look

Don't have answers to all your questions but a pass mark points wise for me would be 95, anything less would be disappointing.

To be honest, at that price in the Fwd line, they are either Keepers or varying degrees of a fail.
