Continuing the tradition started by @doc ron and continued by @Beijing_Sting for many years and then me last year the AFL Lock & Load will be back for another year.

The key features will remain the same as last year.
  • Commences round 0
  • Best 18 for 9 game rounds and reducing for rounds with fewer games
  • A reserve list to replaced injured and dropped players
  • $10M salary cap
  • No trading
However there will be at least 1 change and I am contemplating a few others.
  • The primary list will now be 31 players with the inclusion of the flex position.
I will provide full details and selection forms in the next week or so.

If you would like to participate then please post in this thread.

Rules for 2025
  • Primary list of 31 comprising 8 Defs, 11 Mids, 3 Rucs, 8 Fwds & 1 Flx (Flx is new)
  • A reserve list of 3 Defs, 3 Mids, 2 Rucs, 3 Fwds, 2 Flx (some changes)
    • Reserves will automatically replace an injured or dropped player on your primary list
    • The replacement player will be the reserve with the highest starting price that is not more expensive than the missing player however they will not replace a bye player (unchanged)
    • If a reserve player is not playing (even if they have a bye) then the next cheapest reserve will be the replacement player and so on.
    • Note there is an extra reserve on the Def, Ruc & Fwd line this year. Having looked at last year's results there were still lots of weeks where teams were playing short especially in Def so I want to give all teams the best chance of fielding a full team each week.
    • A DPP reserve can only replace a player in the nominated position.
  • $10M Salary Cap (unchanged)
    • Only applies to the primary list
    • Reserves do not need to fit into the salary cap
  • No trading (unchanged)
  • Highest scoring player each week will be deemed the captain and score double points (unchanged)
  • Weekly score
    • In a standard round of 9 game the highest 18 scores will count towards the weekly total. (unchanged)
    • This will pro-rate down during any bye round; which means the number of counting players will be double the number of games in any given round. For example opening round has 4 games so it will be top 8 players. (unchanged)
  • The winning team will be the one that achieves the highest aggregate score over the 25 rounds of the season (0-24).
  • The competition starts in opening round and deadline for entries is the first bounce of the first game which is at 7:50pm on Thursday 6th March.
Reserves explanation (for those that didn't play last season)
The inclusion of reserves is an attempt to try and ensure that all teams can maintain something like a full playing and competitive list of 31 for the whole season without compromising the lock and load nature of the comp. Any player can be nominated as a reserve however my thinking was that they would probably be a premium or near premium player who could replace injured premiums in your primary list. Non-playing rookie priced players are not likely to feature in your top scorers very often so have less of an impact on the competitiveness of your team. Note however that a primary list player can only be replaced by a player from the reserve list that has an equal or lesser starting price so that the total value of the starting list of 31 each week is within the salary cap. Therefore there is a bit of strategy required in determining who an appropriate reserve might be for your team. Finally the decision to disallow replacements for bye players was so reserve selections are not motivated by bye coverage.

Selection Form
The link is below however please note there are no validations in the form regarding the number of selections, salary cap, picking the same player twice, etc. so those things will need to be managed outside the form. I will check that teams are compliant prior to the first game.

Load & Load 2025 Selections

Please let me know if there are any issues with the form or if players get added to SC website so I can add them into the form.

Happy to take any queries for anything that is unclear. Good luck and enjoy.

I'll give it a go again, despite usually finishing near last.

I strongly encourage people to give this a go, as it inspired the Mid Price Madness contest - without this comp, that would have never existed. If you like MPM, you'll probably like this too. Mark has introduced some really good changes last year which sets it apart from all other site comps.
