That's actually a very interesting structure , wouldn't necessarily go 8 deep to start.

Load up the M , R & F and the target the D

Even if the popular (so far) Allan , El-Hawli , Leake , Reid , Travaglia don't look viable might be enough in that $ 200-300k price bracket to make it work.

Mills @ D1 🤔

I guess that’s the issue with loading up in the mids. The defence and forwards suffer considerably.

Not to mention missing out on several of the midfield rookies who at this stage appear to be some of the best options available.
Done for the fun of it, but could just need 3 relatively cheap upgrades in the forwards, one of them being Sanders > Phillipou which could release $160k by round 7, Cerra would have hit his 'use by' date as he's only in to take advantage of his early draw, might only be an $80k upgrade to Bont. The other $80k could well be used to upgrade say Day > Neale. One boost to get Phillipou, Bont and Neale without accessing a rookie. Would leave 5 upgrades, 2 fairly cheap ones in the forwards and 3 in defence which would be easier than upgrading in the midfield. Ashcroft and Peatling to be traded during the main byes. Theoretically, just 21 trades to get a completed team which would include all uber mids.

Not going there at all, needs a lot to go right, but it's interesting to think through the possibilities.

$792,300 to spend. No round 12 bye players please.
Any ideas to fill these 2 vacancies?

Conor Stone does look likely for r 1 (obv we get a free look r 0) $120k GWS FWD. I think all of he, Hewett, Davidson could be fieldable. I would play around with him in that forward slot, pick your premo poison in defence (or MP) and/or upgrade a few of those midfielders. I would be very hesitant about picking Reidy, so an alternative is also to upgrade that Flex position to someone else.

$227,100 in the bank. I will not be using that cash. Very much reliant on the likes of Durham, Cerra, Piggy & Washcroft to go to the next level but i've really been set on them for a while. Fully embracing mid priced madness.

Solid team, I love Durham as a player but what makes you think he’ll go to another level to be that stepping stone? no Sheezel is brave!

I just think Durham will have even more CBAs and will start dominating with his size and speed. With Shiel and potentially Parish (injured?) out of the centre to start the season i expect Durham will be the main guy alongside Zachy.

Current side with some explanations:

Want to bat deep in defence and light in the midfield. The exact personnel are still up in the air.

Forward line is pretty settled; aside from Lynch at F7 who could go down to a Stone type or up to Flynn ($600 short from changing a $119k rookie to Flynn).

Fully planning on trading many times in the ruck. If SDK and Byran get the #1 ruck roles (ditto Flynn) then I'll ride them out until they're unviable.

Now for the biggest issue; Jackson in flex. Last year in a similar situation he got to a tick under $600k and was pretty underwhelming aside from a 178 against North Melbourne. Now with Darcy out for 3-5 if Darcy isn't back early and if Jackson gets the #1 ruck role his run goes:

Geelong (SDK, maybe Stanley, possibly a bit of Blicavs).
Sydney (Grundy)
West Coast: (Flynn or BJW)
WB: (English)
Nank (Richmond), before he hits Gawn in Round 6. If he can beat up on one or two opponents and go 110 avg and push himself to $600k he's a prime option to swap to anyone on any line past their early bye. Last year I should have done so but was reluctant to leave my forward line exposed. No such issue this year.

Now obviously people will point to a lack of elite talent in both the midfield and rucks. Rucks are little simpler. Gawn is amazing but he's getting up there in age, and it wouldn't surprise me to see Xerri regress at least a little. As for the midfield, I think the best cash cows are in the midfield and I'm happy to lose out on Bont as a C option and look for the upside plays elsewhere.

Wonder when the rate my team thread will open up. Always nice to see what others are doing because there are a couple of players here I haven’t even considered haha!

Ballsy play with both Bryan & Jackson. Traditionally ruck is where you want to set and forget but can see the merit in it.

I haven’t done the math but would be interesting what Bryan would have to average to make $100k before his bye in rd 4. Maybe a slingshot to Gawn or Xerri? Still a bit of uncertainty with Draper and Goldstein around.

If SDK was 250k instead of 360k would make it much more appealing imo. Again not sure what the math is to make 100k but even if he’s ruck would need a few things to go his way to be a top 5 defender.
