His comments on Sicily

- James Sicily played the first 12 mins of the 4th after not playing in the 3rd, only moved to fullback when Serong and Battle went off

AFL comments

Hawthorn captain James Sicily got through his first game since undergoing a shoulder reconstruction in October, playing alongside recruit Josh Battle in defence in the first half.

James Sicily moved forward in the second half after Jack Gunston exited the game.

WCE vs Richmond

Watched 2/3 of the match.

General - Perfect conditions for the match, could not have been a starker difference in gamestyles. I'm not sure if Richmond played on once in the 2 thirds that I watched while West Coast were borderline reckless in their will to move it. This was not an easy game to watch, the camera is stationed somewhere on the moon so a bit like watching ants out there.

WCE - Would have to be happy with that, both sides are fairly equally missing guys and they dominated the match. Not just on the score board but the defensive aspect to force Richmond into the neverending slow play was also good for them as a team who has had major issues in that area. As you'll see from the outs, makes reading too much into this pretty hard but will try.

Missing - Ryan, Waterman, Sheed, McGovern, Yeo, Reid, Kelly, Cripps, Chesser and Maric

Baker - Pure HB role from what I could tell, demanded the ball a bit, good in general. Definitely firming as a very decent fantasy option, imo. None of the guys that are out except for Maric are likely to impact their defensive structure hugely (Duggan pushed back out of mids most likely). Should be their #1 rebounder, imo, and can push towards 100 region as he has historically done when in that role, possibly even higher given no real competition for the main job like Short/Houli/Vlastuin types have been in the past.

Hunt - Wing primarily, standard fare for him.

Ginbey - HB, did a pretty solid job getting involved in rebound action. Too expensive as a MID only, imo, but should have a nice bounce towards the 80s I would think this year, solid DPP change draft option.

Hewett - Was very decent, role was exceptional but wouldn't expect it to be nearly that good when Yeo, Reid and Kelly are all back, did a bit up forward. He's a best 22 guy though, imo, and should get his chances. Like him as a solid loophole candidate, not a trustworthy starter but good very good bench option with some worst case fieldability.

Brockman - Small forward, same old.

Allen - Very impressive at FF. Too expensive in a loaded forward group but very strong later round draft option. Think he can push 80+ but trust a lot more guys within range of his price to do that.

Long - Playing more HF than pocket, was solid but not fantasy relevant for mine.

Duggan - Pretty pure midfield role, playing the sweeping mop up role, was fairly prolific. Still a very poor kick which will hold him back and the real question is where he slots in when everyone is back. Given versatility I'd expect not in the mids.

Owies - Small forward role, was ok.

Graham - Pretty pure midfield role as well, you can basically copy paste my Duggan commentary. Gut says those two are the 4th and 5th midfielder, obviously when Yeo is one of the guys ahead that can be pushed up pretty rapidly but something to watch next game. Gut says Graham ahead of Duggan as the 4th. If he was 100k cheaper I'd say lock, for mine he's outside looking in among forward options right now.

Hough - Defense, same old for him, will improve average a bit but don't think relevant.

Petrucelle - Small forward, not relevant.

A. Reid - Playing as 2nd ruck and KPF, a few nice moments but nothing to really differentiate himself from the other guys going for that same spot. That he started there is a good sign though, would be an amazing R3 option if available.

Flynn - #1 ruck for the whole half, I believe, he looks like he's slimmed down a bit and kind of looks a bit like Bailey Williams at that zoom level but pretty certain he was the #1 the whole time. Copped a big knee in the back/thigh region in the 1st quarter and was ginger but battled on. He played well and felt like he was fairly dominant, also provided plenty at ground level. If he's fit I really can't see how he's not their #1, different class of ruck to Williams.

Allan - Playing HB, rangy left footer, in that Birchall sort of mould. Got caught out for the speed of it a couple of times but was otherwise sound. Good sign he's in the mix by starting there, again only really Duggan, imo, that pushes back when the mids return that impacts him and started on field. Potential alone would dictate he should play plenty. Would be in the fieldable but ideally looped sort of level, imo.

Cole - Standard HB role for him, was pretty involved.

B. Williams - Didn't see him at all in the 2/3 I watched.

J. Williams - Seemed to come on later on to me but may just have been uninvolved in the game, it felt like he replaced Reid midway through the 2nd and into 2nd ruck/KPF role. Same as Reid, didn't do anything to demand the role.

Rawlinson - I thought I saw him out there once but didn't see again so may have hallucinated, obviously didn't do much when I was watching if that's what I'm writing and he did play

Edwards - Very sound in the KPD role. Not fantasy relevant but kills off a few guys who could be.

Dewar - Definitely the standout for mine. Played wing, possibly a little bit of high HF but definitely mostly wing and was very involved in the match. Great run and carry, good kicking, a great running goal and a couple of dropped car chasing attempts, the first one in particular was brilliant. 160k forward that came screaming into contention for mine as that role is open and he definitely stuck his hand up. Schofield in commentary talked up how Eagles want him on the wing and think he can be something before the game (or very early in it) and then absolutely delivered. Wing is inconsistent but based on that outing he'd be a very strong loop to genuinely fieldable option. Had been in the faintest of pencil on my watchlist and now is very much near the top of it for their next game.

Hutchinson - Was also on a wing and a little bit on ball as well and played very well. Had one passage of repeat efforts that covered the length of the square, if he'd stuck the final tackle instead of missing it then it would have been all time coaches playback footage, instead it's just a great example of workrate. Liked him, very awkwardly priced but he did a bit of everything which is what you want. Role at that price not ideal though.
