Is Laverde injured or they finally watched the film of his career and concluded the kids can't be worse so lets see if they're better?

Big positives that Reid, Hayes, Prior, Tsatas, Edwards and Kako are all in the mix.

Shiel is definitely tempting at HB if he plays well again, kind of ball pig that can score exceptionally in the role regardless of the awful footskills.

Are other coaches contemplating starting a forward or two in the midfield with the amount of options available? Particularly because of the lack of midfield rookies that are looking like showing up.

Currently I've got Hewett on the mid bench as well as JHF on field in the midfield who will later be swung back down into the forward line. Basically I'm doing this to fit Rankine in over a 550k+ mid, Rankine potentially may not score as much as a gun midfielder but he's guaranteed top 6 (barring injury), has a nice fixture to start and reportedly has been training as a midfielder in pre season. I think I'd rather lock in a guy that should be top of their line over a mid that may or may not be top of their line end of year such as a Dawson/Petracca/Steele/LDU type.

I'm finding myself going down this path more and more as preseason progresses.

While there's lots of midfield rookies at elevated prices, not many at your typical rookie price have stood out as genuine options. Fortunately, quite a few forward rookies have MID DPP. In my current team, I've got Hewett and M.Hall at M10/11.

My recent drafts tend to have Lynch, SPP, Stone, and Davidson as F5-8 along with JHF, Rankine, Macrae, and Daniel. If I opt for an extra rookie or someone like Humphrey or Garcia, I'm forced to move one of the MID/FWDs (JHF or Daniel) to the mids.

Is it

Just me or is that locked in the fixture every season?
Pretty much. Because of the TV coverage, the time difference to the ES and the fact that WC and Freo play almost every second game at home it fits the broadcasters. They get a ES vs WA team on a Sunday in prime ES TV time.
