It is at this point in the season I love looking back to my original teams, and seeing which ones would have worked out the best.
My Supercoach Team #08 (out of 15 pre-season teams) looks to have been amazing if I had actually had the gonads to go through with it!!

Defenders: Malceski, Bartel, Simpson, Swallow, McDonald, Langdon, Langford, Laidler
Midfielders: Ablett, Pendlebury, Liberatore, Beams, Tyson, Mitchie, Polec, Ellis, Dunstan, Cunningham
Rucks: Jacobs, Sandilands, Derickx, Thurlow
Forward: Dangerfield, Martin, Zorko, Gray, Dahlhaus, Higgins, Kennedy-Harris, Impey

It would have avoided all the ruck mayhem (injuries to Ryder & Mumford, and the spudding of Minson & Goldstein), the injuries to Hurn & Mitchell in the backline, and the breakout of Swallow, Gray ,Dahlhaus & Higgins in the forward line!

The benefit of 20-20 vision!
Would have been a handy team. I would have loved to have started Jacobs over Cox!

Yeah i keep thinking the same thing myself but just wonder how i would've spent the left over cash. Quite possibly might've been Tyson to Daisy which would've been a loss i'm pretty sure.

Cox is a pain in my behind, i'll be honest. Seriously considering pulling the pin and getting rid of him and keeping Cotchin instead.

While Cox is definitely annoying - he is still averaging 92. Jacobs is 'only' averaging 104, so not too big a loss. Guess it all depends on what Cox can average from here?

Nice analysis again this year IDIG, very interesting to see each of the teams in the top ten plus yourself at 38th.

Certainly dont count yourself out of it just yet mate, only takes a couple of ripper captain choices or emergency loopholes and you'll be knocking on the door of the top 10. :)

Top 10 would be a dream haha but reckon i'm too far back now with most of the teams around me completing their teams soon enough. Like aps said, those with Rockliff/Libba/JPK etc have a distinct advantage over those holding less dangerous mids like me. Top 100 is my adjusted goal now but we all know how quickly your week/season can turn :/

So your made your mind up about Cotchin and getting rid of him?
Really not sure. Half of me wants to get rid of him, the other half wants to keep him.

Only brought him in 3 weeks ago lol but 2 of those weeks were against Melbourne and GWS which was a big part of the reason in grabbing him. He didn't really give me the big scores i was hoping for so now i'm looking at even worst average and week in, week out negative POD against teams with the above players.

In two minds but my gut feel is i'll keep him and hope my trades up the sleeve will be the difference late in the year, especially in my cash league where prize money rewards league rather than overall.

How about you mate? i've read a couple of varying posts from you on him as well.

Been playing around with him in and out. It will be a last min thing for me but most likely will keep him. Been disappointing and with the tigers so bad this year everyone is playing poor. Cant see him ave more then 105 for the rest of the year. If i do trade will be to NDS or Fyfe

Yeah i agree. Reckon he starts coming good when/if the tiges do which we saw glimpses of early last week so who knows. I'm on the Freo/North train as well with their handy run home.

Not sure whom will win as not paid much attention yet to look in detail at teams in running. You've now got yourself in mix getting good value squads and high point scoring teams. Now it is chance to win it or lose it from here. Hope the Ballsy coach that thinks for himself wins.

Enright over Swallow, Cotchin over Murphy did it for me! With honourable mentions to Mitchell, Caddy, and single digit scores due to injury!

Some immaculate looking teams in that top ten! Good luck to all that are in the race!

the win could easily come down to what these coaches will do with the likes of watson, jaensch, higgins and only 2 trades to deal with it.

So having had a bit of a look at the the top 10 or so teams over the last week, I am a little surprised that I am in the lead. I probably have the weakest midfield at the moment, not having any of JPK/Libba/Ward/Rockliff while most have 1 or even 2 of them along with the standard Ablett/Pendles/Beams/Selwood/Watson types, the weakest ruck (Cox vs Jacobs/Minson), an ok defense but with no Bartel. The only line that I may be winning is the forwards, and that is probably on the back of getting Harvey from Rd 9 (averaging 135) and Roughead 180 odd last week, where a lot are still running Higgins.

It is interesting to see what PODs are in the top 10. For me the key players look to be

Jacobs/Minson - 2 have Minson and the rest have Jacobs, while I'm the only one with Cox;
Zorko/Gray - 4 have Zorko and 3 have Gray (2 have both). While I have Boomer (4 in total) and Roughy (3 in total, again 2 have both);
Bartel/Hibberd - 6 have Bartel, 5 have Hibberd, while I have Burgoyne/Hanley/Hurn;
Mids - 4 have JPK, 3 Libba/Rockliff, 1 Ward. I have Murphy (4) and Barlow (1). Interesting that a few still have Cotchin!

It will be interesting to see what they all do with Watson, whether they take the value in someone like SJ or go for a $620k+ player.
Personally I would be comfortable enough with Cox as a pod. Champion of the game and an elite Supercoach scorer. Something happens to the unreliable Natanui and his minutes go right up. Can impact the scoreboard.
Coming from someone who was top 100 before trading season and fallen away dismally with the trading game, now 390, my advice would be to replace Watson with a gun in form mid. Mids get cheap for a reason, whether it be poor form, tags, injuries etc. A forced injury trade can sometimes be a blessing. For mine I'd be all over Rockliff and Libba. Poor sides that opposition won't bother too hard to tag. Libba especially as Griffen gets the tag and Libba doesn't hurt you with his disposal but scores well from tackles and clearances. Had JPK last year and he tailed right off as the year went on and I reckon he could get some closer attention so I would avoid him. Fyfe doesn't look right and will be managed at some point no doubt. Opposition have put the clamps on Stevie J and although he will pump out an odd big score, I can't see his scores being as good as his start to the year. Always prone to missing a game every now and then though. High risk high reward player.
Sandi will be a pivotal move. As a last hope for respectability I traded him out two weeks ago for Natanui. The spare cash went to bringing in Hanley in Defence (98 and 119). Got lucky that my R1 Goldy countered Sandi this week. A win at moment because of the flow on effect of the trade. He might make a liar of me as he hasn't missed a beat yet, but I would rely on the durability of Minson and Jacobs going forward than big 211. Only takes one injury when you don't have the trade to cover. Derickx should traded out now to reinvest in the team. Lots of value in squads and there are going to be some mighty fine bench loops/swingers in sides.
The top few sides have really accelerated away from the main pack this year, and can even afford some mistakes and low weeks whilst still being in contention, with the gap being as it is. Interesting last 10 rounds or so to go that's for sure.

Interesting point on bringing in guns in form (at peakish prices). Traditionally, we sell high, buy low but at this stage of the year i reckon you're spot on and those within contention need to keep putting pressure on by grabbing blokes in form like JPK/Rock/Libba. Swan/Griffen who appear like value, just feel like traps at the moment and while the numbers suggest they will come good, their form doesn't. While i'm not in contention, i don't want to be faced with a negative POD for the end of the year so i'm 90% sure jumping on Libba at fullish price with his fave team Melb a few weeks away.

I don't hate the idea of trading Sandi but can't bring myself to pull the trigger. I'll just hold the trade instead as he's worth more than most rucks anyway. Sandi to NicNat + coin is tempting though..

I wonder how many have kept Higgins?
No Goddard in the top 10. Great POD at this stage..
