Miles Version 2.0 hey.... will have to keep a very close eye on him then!
Turns out that in his last four NEAFL games Whiley averaged 39 disposals, 15 contested possessions, five tackles, 10 clearances and 156 SuperCoach points.

Apparently yesterday GWS made some later offers to get players from other clubs.
Pick 4 was offered for Luke Bruest and pick 6 or 7 for Howe of Dees.

Who gave a fantasy coach the keys to the GWS trade table? :D
They must have been keen to add another experienced player to their line-up.
Heath Shaw and Mumford were good gets the year before. Griffen added this year. Josh Hunt and Gilham retired.
Certainly needed another influx of experienced guys but failing to get enough of them.
The problem for them is they do have a core group of young talented players but keeping them together long enough to snag a premiership will be a challenge.

Cameron and Patton long term is awesome dual key forwards to have but Patton has serious injury to overcome before can become the force they hope.
Treloar, Dylan Shiel, Hoskin-Elliott, Toby Greene, Josh Kelly, Whitfield, Cogniglio and Devon Smith they need to hold on to long enough to make the most of the concessions they were given from start.
Losing Boyd, Jaksch and O'Rourke this trade period will be interesting if this is the trend they need to stop from becoming the norm.
They got the young talent up forward and midfield to have a crack at premiership window when they all mature but if they do not create a proper key defender they could find trouble. Not convinced Davis and Mohr will be there when they all mature so losing Jaksch in particular not good for them and Sam Frost was another possible key defender gone this week. Not sure whom takes over in ruck if Mumford breaks down.

Final trade was an exchange of picks:

Cats get 10 and 47
Ade gets 14 and 35

Suggests to me Adelaide will probably draft a South Australian kid at 14 that they are confident that Geelong, Eagles, Richmond and Fremantle won't pick up in the few picks now before them.
I agree... Phil Walsh presser "the player they want at that pick will still be there at 14" (referring to an assurance from the recruiting team) source: the very very last sentence here: https://audioboom.com/boos/2567379-phil-walsh-press-conference-16-10-14#t=5m40s
Wonder whether it's more about pick 35 than 10/14, maybe there's a player they think they'll get at 35 that won't be there at 47.

Apparently they also had a crack at Stevie J and Stevie Motlop too.
I forgot they got Patfull in earlier post. Pretty handy defender there.
Clearly they been getting impatient with progress of team and really went for it late yesterday trying to get a Stevie J, Bruest, Howe or Motlop.
I think Gold Coast of the two new clubs have managed their situation better. More balanced list in age profile I would think. Gold Coast adding Malceski and Hallahan been useful too.
I really like Gold Coast spine of Rory Thompson, Steven May, Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch. They also got Day.
Not many clubs have the 4 key position spots covered so well for long term but they do.

Whomever gets the Gold Coast job as coach should be pretty excited what they have to work with.
Having said that, the club up the highway have Leppa pretty excited right now too.

It's going to be an interesting AFL Draft this year as always.

A guy I chat to (Yes deliberately not mentioning online who!) who works in the industry reckons that from about picks 5/6 to about 15 to 20 there are a lot of quality players but it is very even, more so than other years and hence a bit harder to predict who will go where as it will come down to the individual taste/judgements of the different recruiters.

Also said that despite Kevin Sheehan and someone else (name escapes me) in the media saying that this years draft has depth he reckon the depth is more in the quality of the first 20 or so and that after pick 25/30 odd he thinks it drops away more so than some other years, and will be a real lottery. Although he did say there will probably be one diamond in the rough that becomes a good player but he has no idea who that will be!

Anyway rating the draft prospects is always a matter of opinion and judgement and will very from person to person so make of it what you will.

So does a stronger and more even draft give us more rookies to play with next year??

Interesting to hear some people think that GWS made boyd put on 10 kilos because they wanted him to just be a big strong boy but the bulldogs are going to take those 10kgs off lol

Good source but that news isn't very secretive. :D

"Diamond in the rough" = someone developed right by club to me.

I think too much emphasis in hindsight is placed on the drafting of talent, not the development of it, which is at least half of the job. Case in point: Melbourne.

Once you go past second round then the drafting is "luck" anyway, this draft being the same as that should be nothing new but I think the depth of talent goes to about 50, whilst it may be a good year to delve into the rookies to see who you can get.
