Before everyone get's too excited i think there may be a precedent (and believe me i'm not one to stick up for Eddie), i seem to remember Port getting some kind of compensation last year when Richardson left so late in the piece for the Saints. Also i'm pretty sure all AFL coaching contracts have a standard out clause for any assistant coach that's offered a job as a head coach.

I think you're right mate. From what I was reading Port received $20k compo for Richardson and that privately the Suns have indicated they'd be happy to pay something similar and/or any recruitment costs the Pies incur and relocation expenses for whoever is appointed in Eade's place. The apparent $200k Eddie is demanding is more than a little fanciful for mine.

Why did the Heath Shaw trade have to have compensation paid out for? 
Contracted players are traded all the time, never of them getting their contract paid out.
It will be some sort of league agreement that the contracts are annulled or the existing one has to be carried over (and replaced/extended etc).

Historically I think you could find many examples of players traded against their will while under contract. You cant do that over the journey then cry when it's the other way round.
Contracts are simply just a bit of insurance for players and clubs. For clubs it means if a player wants to move like Beams they can get something out of it, players and coaches have a financial guarantee if the club want to part early.
Ed's been great for us since he arrived. He's made us the off field powerhouse house with structures in place so when he does leave we will continue to thrive.
