I have a lot of time for Eddie. I'm not anti Eddie. But occasionally he gets it so wrong and has a ridiculous rant. I do not get his logic on why the pies should receive money. I don't get his comparison to Griffen. The Pies now have Eades wage to refill the position, they lose nothing other than Eades experience. If you don;t want to lose people then don't fill them with highly rated and experience ex coaches who have a clear passion for coaching lol. If clubs have to start paying compo to get coaches they might get scared off, meaning the best coaches are not coaching which isnt good for the league. Not so much interstate clubs but clubs like us, the deamons, saints, north etc would.
Just because he says one thing doesn't imply all collingwood people think the same (although some may think different) I believe what he said wasn't right. If he had a contract till the end of next year make him honour it, unless there was a clause somewhere that stated about being offered a senior job elsewhere. This is one of a few occasions of late where Eddie needs to pull his head in the world doesn't centre around collingwood. Bad luck move on get someone better in to fill his spot.
Before everyone get's too excited i think there may be a precedent (and believe me i'm not one to stick up for Eddie), i seem to remember Port getting some kind of compensation last year when Richardson left so late in the piece for the Saints. Also i'm pretty sure all AFL coaching contracts have a standard out clause for any assistant coach that's offered a job as a head coach.

I did say it was a generalised comment for a reason. I know many level-headed Collingwood who don't spend all all their centrelink cheque on booze, smokes and mickey dees. ;)

I think you're right mate. From what I was reading Port received $20k compo for Richardson and that privately the Suns have indicated they'd be happy to pay something similar and/or any recruitment costs the Pies incur and relocation expenses for whoever is appointed in Eade's place. The apparent $200k Eddie is demanding is more than a little fanciful for mine.

He was traded out so was different they wanted to get rid of him. And pretty sure he wanted to go in the end as well.
A contract is a contract though apparently. Should have still paid him out, or paid his relocation costs and extra living allowance.

Was Malthouse under contract at WCE?

You cant have the best of both worlds. You either think strongly of contracts or you don't.

I'm guessing they would have payed shaw his salary the year he left as for malthouse I wouldn't have a clue. Wish he was still coach though

Why did the Heath Shaw trade have to have compensation paid out for? Contracted players are traded all the time, never of them getting their contract paid out.

It will be some sort of league agreement that the contracts are annulled or the existing one has to be carried over (and replaced/extended etc).

your missing my point lol, I'm not saying Shaw should have been compensated, contracts are broken by both parties all the time, not just players. Compensation for assistants becoming senior coaches is ridiculous IMO. Fair enough if they want to jump up and down with an assistant moving onto another assistant role. But senior coaching positions should be exempt from this rubbish.

Historically I think you could find many examples of players traded against their will while under contract. You cant do that over the journey then cry when it's the other way round.

Contracts are simply just a bit of insurance for players and clubs. For clubs it means if a player wants to move like Beams they can get something out of it, players and coaches have a financial guarantee if the club want to part early.

Yep $20k changed hands, not because of Richardson leaving but because of the timing, (Post Draft) from what i understand. Sometimes Mcguire is ok, then he does things like this and reminds us why hes regarded as a flog in most circles.

How much of that though is "pandering to his audience". Yeah you, me and the next guy think he's a flog, but the Collingwood Plebs all love him.

Ed's been great for us since he arrived. He's made us the off field powerhouse house with structures in place so when he does leave we will continue to thrive.
Basically he will never get rid of bucks but I've heard whidpers that if the club continues to spiral on field there are people on the board ready make the tough call to cut bucks and with it eddy too.
No person is bigger than the club.

If things go worse this year I expect them to do it late in the year or in the next off season

Tapscott is yet another high draft pick that Melbourne either didn't get right, or failed to develop properly.
