Great first post OO - go the Hawkas! :D

Agree with you on Anderson, he would have played in 2014 if it wasn't for his injury.

I'll take a crack at the Eagles:

Corey Adamson $102,400 (DEF/MID): Former under-15 All-Australian schoolboy who played with Jack Darling, David Swallow and Brandon Matera. Making the change from Major League Baseball back to AFL and is changing his whole body shape as a result. Looks to be coming along nicely but will be take a while to get back into AFL shape. Might get a chance late in the season. No chance of playing round 1.

Rowen Powell $123,900 (DEF): Rookie listed. Has put on 12kg's in the last 12 months but 2015 will be another development year for him. Wouldn't expect him to play at all this year.

Malcolm Karpany $123,900 (DEF/FWD): Possesses the exact qualities the Eagles are crying out for as a highly skilled crumbing FWD/MID . Will get NAB cup opportunity and could surprise. Unlikely to play round 1 but worth keeping an eye on.

Tom Barrass $123,900 (DEF): Tall defender who will spend the year developing in the WAFL.

Paddy Brophy $102,400 (MID): Exciting young Irishman who already is showing beautiful skills despite only just picking up the game. Would expect him to spend the year in the WAFL learning to play in a team and develop his skills. One to watch in future years but no chance of playing round 1 and unlikely to play all year.

Alec Waterman $117,300 (MID): Son of dual premiership player Chris. In & Under player and has the body to play AFL right now. Expected to get opportunities during the year. A chance to play round 1.

Jackson Nelson $117,300 (MID): Will spend the year developing in the WAFL. Unlikely to play at all next year.

Damien Cavka $117,300 (MID): Elite runner. Broke Chris Masten's club record in the 2km time trial in his first pre-season. Will get an opportunity in the NAB cup and might squeeze a few games in this season. Unlikely to play round 1.

Dylan Main $123,900 (MID): Entering his second season, Struggled at times to crack the WAFL senior side last season. Very much a project player and won't play in 2015.

Will Maginness $123,900 (MID): Rookie listed and entering his second season. Showed some great signs late last season but will struggle to crack the best 22 with a fair few younger players ahead of him. Very unlikely to play round 1.

Liam Duggan $172,300 (MID): Pick 11 from this years draft. Beautiful user of the ball. Has trained strongly and is very highly rated within the club already. Will get an opportunity in the NAB Cup likely on the wing or half-back flank. Should play some games this year. Unlikely to play round 1.

Brant Colledge $191,400 (MID): A tall utility in his second year training with the midfield group. Played 2 games last season but went in for ankle surgery mid-season. Having a good pre-season and like most Eagles has added a bit more size. Should play a few games this season but likely with the vest. Slim chance of playing round 1.

Dom Sheed $214,500 (MID): A bit more pricey. Pick 11 in 2013. Played 10 games last season and has perhaps put on more size this off-season than anyone else at the club. Was a prolific SC scorer in the lower levels but was used as a sub a lot last season. Look for that to change. Has looked very good this pre-season and will should be pushing for a permanent midfield birth. Very good chance of playing round 1.

Kane Lucas $255,700 (MID): We all know what he delivered at Carlton. Rookie listed and will get opportunities in the NAB cup to prove himself. Possible to play round 1.

Tom Lamb $117,300 (FWD): Reportedly came to the club with a leg injury of some sort and won't be in full training until late this month. Will get opportunity to display his X-factor in the NAB Cup if fit but wouldn't expect him to play much if at all this year, Will spend the year developing in the WAFL.

Murray Newman $123,900 (FWD): Now out of prison and has added an insane amount of muscle. Has been carrying a sore knee over x-mas but nothing serious. Is supremely talented and if fit could easily be best 22... but may be made to earn it after the club giving him a second chance. Is rookie listed but if he performs in the NAB cup will be upgraded. Good chance of playing round 1.

Fraser McInnes $123,900 (FWD): Developing key FWD. Just don't see any opportunities for him this year.

Simon Tunbridge $131,700 (FWD): Had wrist surgery during the off-season, but has now made a full recovery and is in full training. Has dropped a few kg's of muscle and is getting aerobically better to push for a half forward position in the team. Will see some games this year but most likely as a sub. Won't play round 1.

A big pre-season for the Eagles who are hungry to get back into playing finals footy. The most notable aspect of the Eagles' pre-season to-date is the size that has been added to a number of players especially the midfielders.

Coach Adam Simpson says the club’s latest crop of draftees are showing signs they could be ready for senior football in 2015 saying “I think they’ve all got the ability to play senior football this year, which is really pleasing. But we won’t play them if they’re not ready."

There are no locks for our starting sides from the Eagles this year. But several players worth keeping a close eye on in the NAB cup. On the pricey end is Dom Sheed who is a bit more expensive at 214k but has had a massive pre-season in every sense of the word. Bargain priced is Murray Newman & Alec Waterman who are also chances for round 1 especially Newman if he proves himself.

Don't forget Beau Waters at $267,200. Everyone knows just how good this 2012 All-Australian backman is. It's just a question of his fitness. He has been training with the main squad all pre-season and looks in great shape but is being held from the contact drills. Coach Simpson said he has no intention of trying Waters out with the contact until the NAB Cup so we will have to wait until then. If fit he is a lock for round 1 and our SC teams!!

Hope this helps.

Jackson Trengove has injured his shoulder and requires surgery. Tom Clurey now a viable rookie priced defender? He is consistently top 3 in their time trials, was on the cusp of making the side all last year.

Jed Anderson - $141,400
The man most likely to break into the round 1 side. Highly rated by the coaching staff. A quick skilful inside midfielder and something hawthorn don’t have a lot of on their list at the moment. Gets the nod ahead of Whitecross for me to be the most likely rd 1 inclusion under $220,000 due to his speed and the injury that he is coming back from is less serous that whitecross.
Great post and good to have another Hawk around!

As a Hawthorn supporter I can't remember being more excited about a young player than Jed Anderson.
At the end of 2013 he played a final and apparently was pretty close to getting a game in the prelim.
Clarkson clearly loves him and would happily chuck him in at centre bounces when the game was on the line.
I have a feeling that he might overtake Stratton as my favourite Hawk this year :)

Here's my thoughts on the St Kilda players priced $222,300 and below.
A lot of younger players could push for Rnd1 so I'd be watching the preseason games closely.

Defenders
Brodie Murdoch - $193,500 (DEF/FWD) This is his third year and he was in & out of the team, playing 9 games last year. He kept doing well in VFL with high possessions and goals but he just couldn't string enough good senior games together. He was both sub and subbed and I'm not sure Alan Richardson knows what position to play him. He played through the mids and wing at times for Sandringham but his chance really lies up forward. Even if he plays Rnd1, and he's not the sub, I still wouldn't be confident of him holding his spot.

Hugh Goddard - $122,300 (DEF/FWD) He certainly looks ready to play as a tall defender. However, with the good form of Delaney (5th in Trevor Barker Medal) and the return from injury of Fisher, Gilbert and Simpkin, a spot may depend on their fitness. Which, given Fisher, Gilbert and Simpkin's injury history gives Goddard every chance to play Rnd1! Definitely one to watch during NAB Cup.

Daniel McKenzie - $117,300 (DEF/MID) Medium sized dynamo who'll play at some stage, but would have to leapfrog a few in front of him. He's most likely to play halfback, but he may find it difficult with Dempster, Geary, Savage, Shenton, Webster, Wright and Roberton already vying for spots. I'll be interested to see where Richardson plays him during NAB Cup because he also pushed forward for Vic Metro and to the wing for Oakleigh Chargers. I'd be closely observing him during the preseason games.

Midfielders
Blake Acres - $220,700 Played three games last year before his ankle injury, and then later a quad kept him out of the side. Is in consideration for midfield and wing rotations with Dunstan, Newnes, Ross, Curren ahead of him and competing with Weller and Saunders, but I think he's every chance to play Rnd1. I think he could score well if not a sub, it's just a question of his price.

Jack Sinclair - $129,400 Rookie listed, tough little inside mid may be a smokey. Picked No1 in the Rookie Draft he turns 20yo next month and played for Port Melbourne last year. Could be elevated early, another one to watch during the preseason games.

Rucks
Jason Holmes - $123,900 Rookie listed long term project, USA basketball background.

Lewis Pierce - $123,900 Third year developing ruckman at 202cm. With Stanley gone he's in line behind Hickey and Longer. Had back problems for the first eight weeks of last year in VFL and the rest of his season was quite ordinary.

Forwards
Paddy McCartin - $222,300 Obviously it will take years to build up to the fitness levels set by Riewoldt. Things won't be expected straight away, but I'm not sure he has the tank for what'll be required by Rnd1. If he does play Rnd1 the asking price is too high anyway as I don't think he'll be a big SC scorer this year. Of course I hope I'm proven wrong.

Eli Templeton - $221,300 Debut last year Rnd1 promising, but a broken arm kept him to six games. Will no doubt play at some stage. He will have moments of brilliance but also lacklustre quarters of just running around. I don't think he'll be worth the investment, as Richardson will move him around a bit and his scores won't be consistent enough to make the quick profit you'll need.

Tim Membrey - $172,000 Grabbed the 20yo from the Swans to play forward, and with Stanley and Maister gone he'll be there Rnd1. The forward line will include Riewoldt and at different times other talls like Bruce, Lee, White and McCartin, so Membrey needs to make his mark. In the NEAFL last year he regularly found the goals, but the knock on his game was his defensive pressure. His price is higher than many other potential fwd rookies this year so there might be better value elsewhere.

Ahmed Saad - $151,100 Rookie listed, but I reckon he's a big chance to be elevated and play Rnd1, despite missing 2014 because of his suspension. Of his 29 games in 2012 and 2013 he wasn't a big possesion winner with SC averages of 60.9 and 46.8 respectively. The club must see something in him to redraft him and when asked about Saad's spot being compromised by the drafting of Jack Lonie, Richardson said "Saad has got more speed and is more of a marking player than Jack.” Encouraging, but maybe not enough..I'm very keen to see how he fits in this year.

Spencer White - $146,200 In his second season, debuted Rnd 22 last year kicking 3 goals. Has 'great athletic ability' but his endurance is a big problem. He played some good games for Sandringham up forward, but didn't chase or work up the ground enough.. and gave away too many (sometimes undisiplined) free kicks. A vacancy is there for him with the departure of Stanley and Maister, but he's been behind Bruce and Lee, and now maybe Membrey, with McCartin lurking. I'd say Richardson would want another look at him at some stage, but he's got a bit of work to do to be in the team Rnd1.

Daniel Markworth - $123,900 Knee reco kept him out for 2013, and a hamstring injury cost him the last half of 2014. He will most likely need to play a few games in the VFL first but Richardson has plans for him,"Daniel has great speed, is a very good mark and will play mostly on the wing and at half-forward". Everything depends on his fitness, but he will be given an opportunity at some stage.

Jack Lonie - $117,300 Injured his ankle which has set him back over preseason but still aiming for the intra club in Feb.
He's being groomed for an Adam Schneider type role and he's got a bit of Steven Milne about him. Has competition for a place in the team and a lot depends on Richardson's small forward setup with Billings and Saad, and whether Markworth, Minchington or McKenzie get gigs. He's another one to be watching in the NAB Cup and I think he has a chance to make his way into the side Rnd1.

Brenton Payne - $102,400 (FWD/MID) Rookie listed, tall forward with a light frame. Won't be playing for a while.

Cheers Braider - Markworth has been on my radar for a while now, hope the injuries stay away and he gets some games this year. For the sake of my SC team, I hope they start in round 1 ;)

I've enjoyed reading other club summaries in this thread so I thought I'd have a go at the Crows.

Harry Dear $117,000 (FWD) Hawks didn’t take him as father son and the crows snapped him up with their last pick due to the serious lack of talls at the club. Will develop in the SANFL and no chance of a game in 2015.

Anthony Willson $102,400 (FWD) Rookie - fastest player at the club but his body is no where near AFL ready. Talk is the crows picked him up last year so they didn’t miss out on him in the upcoming draft. No chance of a game this year.

Keenan Ramsay $102,400 (DEF) Rookie - this guy has something about him. unlikely to play this year but can play forward or back. I think he was the most accurate shot for goal at the draft combine. Crows defense is weak so who knows if there were a few injuries and he plays well in the sanfl (which I am sure he will) then strangers things have happened. An unlikely downgrade chance later in the year.

Harrison Wigg $117,400 (DEF) Crows second round pick this year is a local boy. Matt Suckling style left leg but will need time in the SANFL - very unlikely to play this year.

Mitch McGovern $117,400 (FWD) Crows 3rd round pick this year and unlikely to play but he is a year older than most draftees. If he did play it would be as a third tall fwd. Maybe a chance if the likes of Lynch and Pods were injured but unlikely.

Reilly O’Brien $117,400 (RUC/FWD) Rookie Ruck selection for the crows and very young. If he plays the crows ruck stocks are in serious trouble!

Nathan Van Berlo $215,400 (MID) El Capitan no more and hasn’t played a game in over 12 months. He is certainly fit and ready to go so it is unlikely he will end up a bad choice. I am certainly no NVB lover based on his form the few years prior to his injury. Walsh says he won’t tag so he should be a solid albeit expensive rookie pick. DO watch his form in the NAB cup. He has many young mids dying to take his spot and Walsh is not a sentimental kind a guy.

Jake Lever $157,300 (DEF) Most exciting recruit for the crows since B Crouch. IF the knee injury is a one off then he will be an absolute star. I’d back him to play 8-10 games this year but most likely in the back half of the season. He is not short of confidence though and he will be aiming for round 1. IF he plays in will most likely be as the 3rd tall defender which looks to be cheneys spot for now. IF Talia, Hartigan or Cheney go down then Lever goes right up the watchlist.

Sam Siggins $123,900 (DEF) Key Defender who has had a few years on the list. If he can’t break into the team this year he will almost certainly be facing the chop. SANFL form in 2014 was nothing to write home about but he could get a gig if injuries hit with the crows lack of defensive options. Unlikely to score much in SC though.

Jack Osborn $123,900 (RUC) Project Rookie with a basketball background I think. Don’t know much about him other than he is enormous. Played a bit fwd in the SANFL team I think but unlikely to play seniors.

Reilly Knight $123,900 (MID/FWD) Shame this guy just got injured and had surgery as I think he was getting close to push for a game. Out for 3 months and unlikely to get his senior call up this year now.

Cam Ellis-Yolman $123,900 (MID) This guy is also getting to last chance on the crows list as he has played 1 game in a about 3 years. Has all the athletic attributes but some question marks on his disposal. He could be a Phil Walsh bolter into the team but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Jake Kelly $123,900 (DEF) Love this guy! Nicknamed the bull due to the way he crashes into packs he could be a surprise bolter into the 22. I think he may play some games this year most likely as a role player (run with in the mid or lock down defender). Is a rookie so needs an upgrade.

Rory Atkins $123,900 (MID) The Rat is definitely on the fringe of the team and don’t be surprised if he plays round one. On paper there are definitely a few ahead of him in the queue but Walsh will pull a few round 1 surprises and he is the most likely. He is a left footer with great skills which walsh loves. He has been quite vocal about wanting more lefties in the team and Atkins fits the bill. I wouldn’t start him on my SC ground but at as a cheap rookie he is on the watchlist for my mid bench.

In summary VB is an easy choice if you don’t mind paying the premium. Would need to average 80 (which he has done once ever) to make decent rookie coin but he is a safe pick. Atkins, Lever and Kelly are the best of the rest in that order :)

Word of caution with Anderson: he is highly rated and will definitely play at some stage this year if fit. But is he going to play on a consistent basis? Since Hawthorn is still in premiership contention, I can only see him coming in for a few games at a time if someone else is injured. But saying that, I do have him in my team at this stage :)

You may be right but didn't he play pretty much every game in 2013 before getting inj and not being able to get back in the side for the g/f. From memory think he was first emergency? May not be right but think that he is/was the best youngster they have

Would have thought Jono O'rourke would be the best youngster at the moment for the Hawks? Serious talent!

Thanks BB

A quick dees query for you...my gut says Salem will be a great pick this year and he could be worth the extra coin. Are then any updates of how he is going this pre season? I heard he was taking kick ins at training which sounds like a sign that they rate him.
