Alan Richardson on Hugh Goddard: "Hugh's going very well. He's a very competitive and ambitious young man. It certainly won't be through lack of commitment that he won't be there early. He's in a part of the ground where we have a bit of experience (Fisher, Delaney, Dempster, Gilbert etc) so that makes it a little tougher, but long term he has the potential to be a very good player."

Time to put a line through our favourite rookie defender Hugh Goddard?

Thanks BB

A quick dees query for you...my gut says Salem will be a great pick this year and he could be worth the extra coin. Are then any updates of how he is going this pre season? I heard he was taking kick ins at training which sounds like a sign that they rate him.
Sorry mate. Just saw your post now. Salem is tracking along very nicely this pre-season. I think he could be a decent cash cow and has the potential to average around 75 - 80. My worry is that he still may wear the vest here and there and just one or two bad games could see him going back to the VFL to find some form. At this stage he is very much in contention for a round 1 spot.

Well Gilbert's already gone... then Fisher on the eve of Rnd1. :(
That's life for a Saints supporter. But at least then Hugh might get a game. haha off course he'll be playing !

Richardson's just taking the pressure off the kid, and getting in early with the media trite coaches have to spill out about draftees.

If however he doesn't play Rnd1 and it's another defensive rookie gone, I'll be a step closer to my Corey Adamson pick (if a playing ruck appears for R3).

Just quietly, I do give some hope for Jordan Kelly if he gets elevated off the WB rookie list.

That sentence in no way says that he won't play early. It just says he's putting jn a huge effort to push for early games.

malcolm karpany should be a good back rookie

west coast need a good crumbing forward and for some reason is a d/f must be a sign

also brayden maynard should be a good option not a skinny player and can kick the ball so would have to be a lock surely

daniel mckenzie could be a good option as well could be this years impey maybe???

I think that the Hawk review should of included Billy Hartung.

Judging from training reports, Billy has been one of the stand out players in this pre-season. He has improved his strength and is even fitter than he was last year. If hawthorn can find a spot on the team for him, he could become a good player. I guess the problem is including him into a side that has I.Omith, C.Rioli and B.Hill in it. I think Anderson and Hartung are the main two players that look like breaking into the hawks 22.

I don't think he will get consistent games for us. Our best 22 isn't easy for rookies to get into and he would be behind Jamie Cripps & Josh Hill, and would be fighting with Murray Newman who has a lot to prove in his last crack at it. He might sneak in for a few games this year but won't consistently play and when he does is a huge vest risk.

If the likes of J Hill are keeping these rooks out, you wouldnt want to be selecting em for SC anyway ...

"Yet Hardwick almost whispers in conspiratorial tones about finding the next Anthony Miles — if they can play him.

Williamstown VFL star Lambert hasn’t let anyone down given those comparisons with the ex-GWS battler turned clearances king.

“He has been incredible. We just started our scrimmage matches and he just keeps getting the ball. He is like another Miles,’’ Hardwick says of Lambert.

“Miles was a fantastic story last year and I don’t know how many people I have had ask me why I didn’t play him earlier, but he was on the rookie list.

“Kane Lambert is a similar story. He is a rookie so it’s going to be a challenging decision as a match committee as to who can be elevated. It was a really strong draft and we are pleased with the talent we brought in.”"

Q: Hi Ken. How is Nathan Krakouer going and can we expect to see him playing senior football this season?

Ken Hinkley: Nathan's having a really strong pre-season, and his training form suggests he'll have an impact for us in 2015.

Same. Have been thinking/saying the exact same thing as you DJ all preseason.
Because the inanimate carbon rod is serving an indefinite club suspension.

I'm sure that an option or two will come through in the nab challenge, but until then, he's a useful 122k place holder.

In my team at the moment and staying simply due to the fact that:
A- defender rookies seem few and far between at this point in time and
B- was ranked 10th in CD points throughout the entire u/18 season last year yet was picked at 21 giving him a price at the lower end of rookie prices
