1) It's Caro - let's believe it when Essendon and/or Sheedy confirm it.
2) He's past it. The game has moved beyond him. He may be able to help Coach the Coaches, in communication and psychological skills, but I can't see him having any first hand benefit to the playing list.

Absolutely rapt to have him coming back. I still love the bloke.

It should be noted that Mark Robinson broke this story, Ms Wilson simpy used it to write another article condemning Essendon.

The reported role is more of an ambassador type role, he won't have much to do with actual coaching.

As for Ms Wilson the following is absolutely wrong:

[ QUOTE]
Sheedy will become a fundraiser for the club, working on community programs so neglected in recent years. Once the AFL leader in the indigenous club space, Essendon lost that mantle to Port Adelaide long before Paddy Ryder defected to Alberton while the Bombers by comparison have become non-existent in that area. [/QUOTE]

Essendon has a massive community presence. They actually have 8 staff members employed for community programs. 8!

The community work centres around four key program areas - Indigenous, Multicultural, Youth and Education and Community Partnerships. Each program area involves a robust suite of programs and partnerships that directly benefit the community.

For Ms Wilson to suggest that this area has been neglegted and non existent is simply wrong, ill informed and darn right offensive. I wonder if she simply made that statement based their being less indigenous footballers at the Club than there has been in the past.

I heard on the radio its been confirmed but cant find anything concrete online either. In that type of role it's not the end of the world i suppose. God knows we need something or someone to detract from the asada stuff :p

I would not be impressed if he took over the coaching role if Hird gets banned again though. While there'd be a sense of nostalgia, agree with Rowsus the game has past him which is how i felt towards the end of his coaching career at Essendon.

He's had a lot of practice in marketing and development of a football club in recent years. Certainly would be a lot of extra and harder work developing the GWS brand and support.

He should be well qualified and adequately skilled in improving the image of Essendon while also making a tangible value contribution to the organisation. The fact he already has significant support amoungst the powerful and wealthy supporter groups is a great head start in the role as he will have funding to support initiatives.

Very happy to have him back on board, can only mean good things for the club.

Youd think they have him back to tr and stop the bleeding in a sense. Good ol' Sheeds reminding us of old times etc. Smart marketing move IMO hes good for the somewhat damaged "Essendon" brand.
