Jed Adcock of Brisbane in recent years has become a solid defender in SuperCoach and should average in the top 10 defenders this year, but will you take a chance on Jed Adcock?

Name - Jed Adcock (BRL)
Position - DEF
Price - $482,300
Average - 90.1 (21), 90.4(20), 68.4(9), 87.3(15), 75.5(21) and 110.7(22)
Draw - WBD, ADE, GCS, NTH, MEL, SYD, WCE, ESS, CAR, COL, BYE, FRE, GEE

To be honest, I'm not sure if there is any worth writing this article, but I don't think it hurts.

If you intend to have 4 or less premium defenders then I think Jed Adcock will not come into calculations. If, however, you intend to have 5 or 6 premium defenders, then Adcock could be a viable selection :)

REASONS FOR JED ADCOCK

Adcock has averaged in the 90s in the last 2 years and has played 21 and 20 games, ie missing 1 and 2 games. Adcock is 27 years old and probably at the optimal age to excel.

For some reasons, I'm always a bit concerned of having Adcock mainly due to his injury concerned and always a bit worried that Adcock will play lock-down mode. However, I think the single most important reason (if you decide to do so) for picking Adcock is that Jed Adcock is now co-captain of Brisbane with Jonathan Brown. The reason I like Adcock as co-captain is it means that if Adcock is having a shocker, playing lock-down mode or Brisbane is getting pumped, Adcock can always do a swap and jump in the midfield.

Adcock had a live chat yesterday and the Jed Adcock transcript is shown on the Brisbane website. However, I highlight one of the questions and answers, namely:

  • Jackie: Any chance of you playing stints in the midfield? Loved it a few years ago when you got a chance there!
  • Jed Adcock: Yeah, might be a chance to push through, but will be playing mainly across half back this year.
I like that answer.

REASONS AGAINST JED ADCOCK

Injury concerns is obviously the main concern, except for 6 years ago where Adcock averaged 110 with 22 games, Adcock tends to miss games. Adcock is like the slightly stronger Josh Drummond.

Furthermore and based on the transcript, Adcock is a bit behind with his preparation for the season.

Again, I completely expect 80% will vote for No or Unlikely for the poll.

However, for who intend to load up the midfield rookies, but have 5 or 6 premium defenders, Jed Adcock could be a possibly be a decent selection.

I am probably putting too much weight on Adcock being co-captain, but I like that from a SuperCoach point of view.

Verdict: WATCH (3)

No no no and again no. I had this fellow 3 years in a row and brought nothing but disappointment of inconsistent scores and weirdo injuries making him sit out like 4 games at a time. No thank you!

No, but I do think he'll start really well with an easy run.
People will all jump on him after he's averaging 100 for the first 5 rounds, then he'll proceed to average 60 playing a lockdown role after [insert name here] gets injured in the Brisbane backline.

But seriously, the rise of Hanley will probably see him stay around the 90 mark again. Not worth it if there isn't going to be any improvement.

Been a regular in my side, but I just haven't seriously considered having him this year.
That's an unlikely from me. :)

Unlikely for me unless he has some massive preseason numbers. The problem for me is that i can't see him getting any time in the middle with all their midfield options now.

I think he is the ideal player to avoid. Quite a big price, unlikely to be a top 6 defender and likely to miss matches.

Going In to week 1, I don't think you can count on any Lion being a top 10 position player, they've had tooooo many changes from the last year.
Black gone :(, a hand full of 20 game kids, new coach.

ooops this was last years topic.

Pick the newbie. ;D
Haha all good Blacky Rules, still relevant this year I think.

It does make Adcock and Hanley interesting prospects, along with Daniel Rich who is the other that springs to mind.

I reckon Adcock will play 22 games in 2013 at an average of 83.3 ;)

Welcome Blacky Rules. Definitely need some more Lions supporters opinions, could be a few interesting Lions SC players this year.

I'm more likely to pick exlions who moved in the draft, all were young promising players, and Leppa couldn't convince them to stay.

Polec is almost a first pick with me seeing that his preseason seems to be going great guns so far.
Karnezis will be on my radar if he gets a run through the midfield in the preseason games

I will be watching Longer closely.
