How hard would it be to integrate a user tagging system and notification function for posts you were tagged in?

Would be handy for replying to people page to page. Sometimes a particular response can be lost when there are multiple posts going. Just a thought! :)
Yeah I have also been thinking about this a bit as well.

On another soccer based forum I have noticed that they are able to tag people by doing this, for example: @IDIG, @Impromtu, @Rowsus. And this then links them to the post and they get a notification.

A long shot but with the Rugby Union World Cup later this year, are there any rugby fans here and know of a good fantasy comp to compete in?

So I did not catch the details of AFL new Broadcast agreement. Well put it this way, not enough to work out exactly how many games are on free to air each week despite ready at least two articles on it including the one IDIG posted above from the newspaper. Can some tell me in straight language is there what time slots each weekend are showing an AFL game live in Channel 7 and is the Saturday arvo timeslot still a delayed telecast ?

At the moment we have Friday night, Saturday Night and Sunday arvo live and the Saturday arvo game on delay.
Is this staying the same ?and if not, where have we lost a live game each week ?

Few of the articles seem to mention it, which can't be good. Gerard Whateley on AFL360 said last night that the 3:20 Saturday game Foxtel will have the rights to sub lease that game to free to air (Eg Ch 10).

Below is one analysis I read, from the sounds of it Ch 7 have the Fri, Sat night, Sunday arvo games and have lost the Sat arvo game, but I am guessing here...

No.3: Potentially fewer free-to-air games

For footy fans who don't subscribe to pay TV, it would be very concerning to learn that Channel Seven might be broadcasting fewer games between 2017 to 2021/22 than it already does. Under the current deal, which expires next year, Seven show four matches in a regular round – the Friday night game, a Saturday afternoon game, a Saturday night game and a Sunday afternoon game. If another free-to-air channel, such as Ten, doesn't get involved in the on-selling of games in the next deal, then fans who only have free-to-air TV might only be treated to as few as three games every weekend. A digital subscription would have to be a serious consideration in that scenario. Of course, if you do have Foxtel this won't affect you one iota – you'll have access to all nine games each week in their entirety as per usual.

Well it is scary they have presented this new deal and left us to guess. It seems that is done on purpose. I really sense we have lost the Saturday arvo game in that case. Looks like we are down to only 3 games on free to air tv. If we get a 4th it will only be if Foxtel want to be nice and I seriously doubt that. Unless some channel pay them a big fee to broadcast another game live it looks like they will hold it against fans to make them pay to get subscriptions up for Foxtel. Looks like Foxtel are the big winners out of this and not us fans. :(

Yeah it's something we've looking into but not as easy as first thought.

Looks to be a limitation of vbulletin and unfortunately time and budgetary constraints are an obstacle at the moment. We do aim to have that function or a variation of it down the track though because it is quite handy to have.

For those like me that pay for the afl live pass, to legally watch the games each weak without having to either buy foxtel or find an illegal stream online, telstra in the next broadcast deal has made it so you must have Telstra to get this service. This year it didn't matter if you were on Optus, the data used just counted towards your plan unlike if you were on Telstra it was unmetered. So foxtel is the big winners in the TV rights, Telstra the big winners in online rights, and anyone without foxtel or Telstra screwed big time.

Richmond FC yesterday announced veteran Chris Newman will retire at the end of the year.
The 33-year-old, recruited by Richmond at pick 55 in the 2000 national draft, has played 264 games and captained Richmond from 2009-12.

In other news Rhyce Shaw will retire at the end of the year.

Premiership Swan Shaw to pull the pin at season's end

'Glimmer of hope': Swan may return in 2015
He is an incredibly popular figure amongst the entire playing group
John Longmire on Rhyce Shaw

SYDNEY Swans premiership defender Rhyce Shaw will retire from the AFL at the end of the year after 16 seasons in the league.

Shaw has averaged 18 disposals per game this season, and in his usual role as a running defender, has been a solid contributor for the Swans in their up and down year.

The 33 year-old veteran has played 232 games and was part of the Swans' 2012 flag-winning side, after crossing from Collingwood at the end of 2008.

The Shaw name is an institution at Collingwood. Rhyce and younger brother Heath, now at Greater Western Sydney, are both former Pies, while father Ray and uncle Tony both captained the club, the latter to a drought-breaking premiership in 1990 when he was the Norm Smith medallist.

Shaw played 94 games with the Magpies after being taken under the father-son rule with pick 18 in the 1999 NAB AFL draft.

The speedster's time in black and white wasn't exactly rosy thanks to a broken collarbone and a knee reconstruction, plus a nightmare Grand Final in Collingwood's loss to Brisbane Lions in 2003.

It was the move to Sydney and the Bloods' famed culture that transformed him from an inconsistent wingman into a dependable defender, and turned Shaw's career around.

He played 22 games in his first year in Sydney and averaged 24 possessions per game, and reeled off 20+ games in his next three seasons in the harbour city, finishing runner-up in the Bob Skilton Medal in 2009 and 2011 (shared with Josh Kennedy), before playing a vital role in the Swans' 2012 premiership triumph.

A second knee reconstruction ruined his 2013 season, but the experienced backman bounced back with 20 appearances last year, and hasn't missed a game this season.

Coach John Longmire paid tribute to the retiring defender.

“He has been able to produce at a high level for a long time and remains an important part of our defensive unit. He still has a key role to play for us over the coming weeks and we look forward to seeing his customary run and attack from the backline,” he said.

“Shawry’s impact as a leader has been immense and so many young players over the years have developed under his guidance.

“He is an incredibly popular figure amongst the entire playing group. Humble, loyal, selfless and very funny - he is just a great clubman."

Barring an unlikely finals meeting, Shaw will share the field with his younger brother for the last time on Saturday when the Swans take on the Giants in the Sydney derby at Spotless Stadium.

This has been my worst year of sport for me in the whole of my short life

Reason 1- Ruptured my ACL at the last training before we started playing. This ruled me out for the whole year

Reason 2- Carlton... What the actual ****

Reason 3- Carlton players... Yaz, Hendo, Bell just to name a few. Stay at the ****ing club

Reason 4- Cricket... Holy ****. We were the #1 side but playing like absolute ****

Reason 5- Bongers are ruining the AFL

This is just SOME of the worst

I'd be very interested to know what has happened with Oxley. I wouldn't be shocked if an incident has occurred and he is serving a club suspension but they're avoiding negative publicity. Not buying that he is still a test with a hip injury.

You may be right wasn't he out rested versus Melbourne a couple of weeks back?

I would like to make a full and unreserved apology to Dayne Zorko the Magnificent.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I didn't trust you. I'm sorry that I let my feelings get in the way of picking you up - but it wasn't that I didn't love you, no, I thought that my love was foolhardy, and that by overriding my heart's desire, I was making the better, stronger choice.

I was wrong.

You were priced at $408, 500, a bargain for such wizardry. You came off a 91 and a 93, you, in your infinite wisdom, were showing me that you had what it took, whilst remaining affordable for weeks. But I had little faith, and instead picked a man, who, for $96, 200 more, gave me scores of 57, 65, 121 and 73. That man's name was Shane Edwards, and this week he made way for the Little Master.

Of course, I saw my error by the first week, but I tried to rationalize my folly. "Sure," I told myself. "It's a decent score, but he's just as likely to drop in a 40." You scored 119. "Yeah, but what happens when you face Fremantle. Let's face it, you'd be lucky to score a half century." 124. And now, after another 124 and a 145, Dayne, you are out of reach.

And you stay that way, you glorious man.

---

The blessings of Dayne be upon you all.

Crows defender Sam Siggins has quit the Adelaide Football Club for personal reasons, including his self-admitted emotional difficulties since the death of coach Phil Walsh in early July.

Siggins, 21, has returned to Tasmania and will be delisted by the Crows.
