Whilst watching the cricket on tv and a bit of reading time I come across something fascinating about Fremantle this season and another team in history of league scoring.

Here's a quiz for those interested in day time to wonder about or look up to get the answers.

Fremantle have the top spot on ladder in their keeping with one game to go to finish up 22 home and away games.
I will list Fremantle weekly final scores against another teams weekly scores from a past season.
Your task is to tell me how many teams finished below this mystery team on ladder in the respective season that club scored these scores on table in league history of that season.

Believe it or not.....
Who was the mystery club and when was the last time a premiership team went over 3 months in season before scoring a century in the league's history?
How many teams finished below this mystery team on ladder in the respective season that club scored these scores on table in league history of that season ?

So having a full premium team isn't enough. With all this resting going on seems you need 1 premuim on the bench on each line and 2 trades in hand for each round for the run home.
should be aiming for that anyway i spose.
Easier said than done.

Luke Hodge caught drink-driving, won’t be punished by Hawthorn

Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge is not playing this week due to suspension.
HAWTHORN premiership captain Luke Hodge has been caught drink-driving only days from the AFL finals series.

The Herald Sun understands Hodge had several beers at a social function on Thursday night then was stopped by police driving home.

Hodge was already suspended until Hawthorn’s first final after a two-match ban for high contact on Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard.

He has been fined $450 and lost 10 demerit points after blowing 0.068 in an embarrassing incident for one of the AFL’s stars.

The 31-year-old All-Australian will not be punished further by the Hawks after alerting the club immediately and co-operating with police.

It is understood Hodge believed he would be comfortably under the limit given he had stopped drinking some time before getting behind the wheel.

At some clubs players who are suspended or injured are not allowed to drink while they are not playing.

But as an AFL captain and veteran player, Hodge was not subject to a drinking ban.

The Hawks confirmed the incident when the Herald Sun phoned to inquire about Hodge’s drink-driving.

Hawthorn football manager Chris ***an said Hodge was embarrassed.

“Luke understands that as a father of two young boys and a leader of our footy club he is in a position to set an example for the community in regards to road safety, and is extremely remorseful,” ***an said.

“He had a couple of drinks throughout the night and thought he was OK to drive, but makes no excuse for his poor judgment.

“This is a reminder for our entire playing group and the community that when in doubt, to take public transport or catch a taxi.

“We are disappointed in Luke’s error of judgment, the club has spoken to him and the police about the matter and we believe the penalty he has received is appropriate,” ***an said.

Hodge has enjoyed one of his best years in football but has also been involved in a pair of nasty incidents that caught the eye of the match review panel.

He was suspended for a brutal elbow to the head of North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow earlier this year.

Hodge has transformed himself from one of the AFL’s most colourful characters into a leader of men at Hawthorn.

It would seem you are talking about Fitzroy in 1980, who finished bottom of the then 12 team ladder. They only managed 4 wins and a draw that season, and only 3 teams had a higher total score for the season than them, unfortunately, they had little or no defence, allowing 2788 points to be scored against them that season (Fitzroy scored 2398), at an average of 127/game! That was 900 more than most frugal team, Geelong, who only allowed the opposition 86/game!

Well done Rowsus. Expected you would get it before anyone else here...lol
Yeah, pretty incredible for that to be the bottom team in a season. They outscore this seasons top of ladder team in 18 of 22 rounds.
Crazy stuff.
Fitzroy made top five the year before and after.
Ironically the club Ross Lyon would start his career at a few seasons later.

Fitzroy seemed to be pretty good at that type of crazy stuff. They won both the Wooden Spoon and Premiership in 1916, perhaps my favourite quirky fact in VFL/AFL history!

There were only 4 teams in the competition that year due to the World War, being Fitzroy, Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond.

Fitzroy finished last at the end of the home and away season with just two wins (From 12 rounds playing each other team 4 times), meaning they won the Wooden Spoon.

However with a Final 4 series they made the finals and won three straight finals to win the Premiership!

Was a very different system with a lot fewer teams, and I think the war effected it as well.
It was basically 5 or 6 teams, all played finals, and Fitzroy won through.

Edit: Thanks, Phil. Interesting to see how accurate my memory was.

lol.. about your memory.

Were you at the Preliminary Final and Grand Final when Fitzroy and Carlton played each other two weeks in a row ?

In that 1916 season Fitzroy did opposite of Richmond last season.
Fitzroy lost 9 games in a row leading up to 1916 finals.
Then they won the premiership after that losing run.

lol.. Maybe my great grandfather from Ireland was there and people understood him as well as Connor McKenna.
If there was a game I wish I was at it would be 1970 Grand Final. Although even 1979, 81 or 82 I would take.

All these shiny medals going around and i've got nothing. Can't we make it like under 7's and all get a participation medal so i don't feel like a loser!?

Well done to Jay and the mods, and everyone else for another great year. Nice community which i'm happy to be part of. We've got some work to do in the off season to close in on the leagues above.
