I agree with everything except the fallen premium bit. One good year doesn't make a premium. But I do think he is young enough and cheap enough to be considered and has shown that he can score well.
Classify him how you want, his last 3 seasons were 75, 93 and then 77. Not bad considering all of his issues this year. Maybe not a fallen premium, but he should be soon given the way he goes about it. His kick to handball ratio is 2:1 which is SC gold, assuming he can get his disposal efficiency back up. He's capable of averaging 20+ disposals and around half a goal a game off the half back. The last 5 rounds of 2015 he averaged 1.1 points per minute.

I'll be jumping on at 400k.

I'm interested to know about whether DPP makes Smith more relevant. He'll be priced around 415k, but we already knew that, and we knew he'd be a defender, and I'd never pick him in the midfield. Is it just because of the flex of being able to move him around between lines?

Also, the words from the Crows coach that his best position is in defence has me even more worried.
Had him pencilled in for a likely DEF spot in my starting side but now he is an absolute lock with the news that he is DEF/MID.

100% agree, I'm still considering, I just didn't think he was a lock at all. After last year I'm feeling cautious about selecting any defenders between the 400k - 430k range.
Better for him to be in the $400k - $430k range than at around $500k like he was at the start of this year :D

Really interested to hear your thoughts on why you're red hot on him mate if you wouldn't mind?

Its early days but for me he definitely has the potential to be a premium but am not yet convinced he'll be a regular high scorer.

Was obviously good in '14 but had some shockers along the way.

Concussions put a decent handbrake on his '15 but he started well I guess!

A def who should av 90+ at 415k no brainer really.
And dpp is an added bonus for that time we run outta trades
Wish there were another 5 just like him.

I have my concerns on him?
Why is he a lock to average "90+"? I thought he was awfully inconsistent last year (even accounting for injury interuption) and Rory Laird probably overtook him in the internal ranks (debatable; but he looks a good player).

Seedman and that guy who was on everyone's team ni 2014 will compete for that running/loose/unaccountable :) HBF, Wing role too.

I think we saw in 2014 what Smith is capable of when he averaged 93.5.

He started 2015 in outstanding fashion and it was those couple of concussions which really derailed his season.

He hit back towards the end of the season and once again showed what he is capable of with scores of 100+ in rounds 19, 21 and 22.

I'm fairly convinced that he will consistently score well and average 90+ next year.

I'm with you Ben, even before he got D/M I had him penciled in.

For me as far as defenders go I would much rather pay $415k for Smith and hope for 80-85 average, possibly 90+ than pay around 600k for Shaw and pray for 20+ games at 105+.

I think the risk of loosing on Smith is much less than paying $550+ for any other defender.

Agree, it's not a foregone conclusion though. I mean Birchall had a similar thing happen in 2013, and he never truly made it back to those heights. He is in my team, but it's a long way from finalised. Going through about 10+ iterations a day atm.

I thought the same with Lumumba over Hodge last year :(
Those players can be poison if they don't turn good.

Yeah, definitely not a foregone conclusion. I can just feel it in my waters though, John!

Petracca $123,900 MID/FWD

If he plays round 1, has there ever been a bigger lock for our starting teams?

Probably not.

TBH, I'm quite supprised that he is priced at $123,900, even though he did not play a game last year, I was expecting him to get a discount on last years price and pop up at around the $180k-190k mark.
