Sinclair is a weird one. He's hard to get a read on. He only played one game last year without Nic Nat and scored 76, but that was against Sandilands so it's probably not a good indication of his solo ruck ability. He averaged 19 hit outs per game playing second fiddle to Nic Nat and only had 13 in his game against Sandilands.

His TOG wasn't too bad and obviously he will spend a lot more time in the ruck at Sydney, but at $409k it seems like a big gamble not worth taking. Surely you are better off going with two proven premiums, or going with a much cheaper option with a view to upgrading down the track.

Yeah I agree. Right now he is very hard to pick. Hopefully he plays most of NAB Cup so we can get a bit of an indication as to how he will perform during the home and away season. Could be a handy option in our forward lines to potentially cover one our R1 or R2 if they miss a game or two during the year.

He's a WATCH for mine.

Here is how our stepping cows projected profit compares to last years best cash cows assuming a 105 average and a consistently declining magic number. In reality the magic number can go up occassionally. The green boxes are not maximum profit but a reasonable time to cash out and the yellow boxes were the best round to trade in cash cows that didn't start round 1.

You would have to pick Libba believing he is a keeper. O'Meara and Crouch might be cheap enough to be stepping cows.

I reckon Rocky, J.Selwood, Sloane, Libba, Crouch, O'Meara could be an interesting starting proposition, reckon you'd need to go cheap in the rucks and defence though to be able to afford it. Would be ok if there's good rookie options i reckon!

Awesome analysis, though i reckon you'd be picking all 3 hoping they could potentially be 110+ keepers and not just thinking of them as "stepping cows" as such, that's just a secondary "hope" if Plan A doesn't work out.

Realistically though a 105 average is in the "no rush" category. You'd take 105 as almost a top 2 average in Def/Fwds. Particularly for 300k.

Their upgrades would absolutely be your last upgrades and depending how your luck was a 105 wouldnt be out of place as most M8s or M9s.

Theres always this notion that we have 100% control over our planned upgrades (get Goldy at a reduced prices after 5-6 rounds) but realistically its very hard to nail it.

Youd have to pick them with the view that you could take never getting to trade them out if averaging 105. Kind of like Newnes last season. He was never critical enough for most to upgrade and as the injuries stacked up a lot (including me) were stuck with him.

If they got injured or only averaged 90 then you might need to bump them out for a fallen premo sooner than expected.

But having said that 105 average (i think it'll be a bit less) for 300k is rare but amazing if it comes true.

I'm not sure if Rowsus can work his magic and see if anyone has come from 300k to average 105 before?
