Well if you're on the same page I must be doing something right! Feels a link to vanilla for this time of year. Wouldn't mind dusty getting rubbed out as I can't stand Richmond for one and I also wouldn't mind having Joey in there
Not vanilla at all. Every second side will have O'Meara, Crouch and Lueuy, or a couple of them, in it. Some punters forget they are expensive 'rookies'..gotta upgrade all of them.

First team. Rookies are just place holders at the moment.

DEF: J. McVeigh, B. Houli, M. Hibberd, B. Smith, C. Byrne, K. Heatherley (M. Brown, M. Hibberd)
MID: N. Fyfe, S. Pendlebury, G. Ablett jnr, T. Rockliff, T. Liberatore, K. Lucas, A. Woodward, N. Freeman (D. Gore, J. Jansen, A. Morabito)
RUC: S. Martin, N. Naitanui (C. Loersch)
FWD: B. Deledio, D. Martin, L. Dahlhaus, M. Leuenberger, B. Kennedy, S. Kerridge (C. Petracca, L. Sumner)
CASH LEFT: $127,100

Nic Nat will become Goldy at some stage.

Got a basic structure set with a lot of rookies to be sorted out later.

D: Boyd, McVeigh, Docherty, Smith, M.Brown (Ess)
M: Ablett, Pendlebury, Dangerfield, Selwood, Liberatore, Mathieson
R: Martin, Mumford (Cox)
F: Wingard, Barlow, Franklin, Greene, Petracca

Selwood might become Rockliff depending on injury status. I have $1.6 million for the other 11 rookie spots (average of $144,900 each), so should be able to get all the good rookies who pop up in the NAB cup/start round 1. Pretty confident with Petracca, Mathieson and Brown which is why I put them in there and Cox will most likely be my donut.

D: Shaw, McVeigh, Bartel, Smith, x, x, (x, x)
M: Fyfe, Ablett, POD Keeper, Rockliff, Liberatore, Crouch, x, x, (x, x, x)
R: Martin, Naitanui, (West)
F: Deledio, Wingard, Barlow, Thomas, x, x, (x, x)

Toying with structure. Using Erich's fanplanner I didn't ever have Shaw or Deledio, but I'm placing them in for now just to test the limits of different configurations if they happened to make it come lockout. I realise they are overpriced by 5-10 ppg, but that has been o***et by not taking Goldy to start, who I think will drop 10-15 ppg. I like the idea of handcuffing West to Martin. $$$ relief for rookies can be generated by 'downgrading' Shaw and Deledio, but as it stands there are 13 rookie slots at an average of 122.7k each.

Last year, my mid 'POD Keeper' was Treloar. After his opening round 157 a lot of (I would hazard bad) coaches wasted a trade and jumped on. Not only did they miss his best score, but he only averaged 104.3 from that point. Hopefully my POD Keeper slips under the radar a bit in the opening 3 rounds, but not too much!

Early plans.

D: McVeigh, Bartel, Smith, Malceski, M. Brown, MW. Brown (Byrne, Hibberd)
M: Fyfe, Ablett, Sloane, Shiel, Rockliff, Crouch, Mills, Kennedy (Freeman, Keays, Mathieson)
R: Martin, Sinclair (Read)
F: Bennell, Gray, Franklin, Leuenberger, Lamb, Kerridge (Petracca, Adams)

Mostly guns and rookies and I feel that it's a pretty well balanced side at the moment. I have a spare 160k and I'm not sure whether I should play around and try to load another premium or Libba/JOM type in my midfield or strengthen one of my def/fwd lines. Planned to start Goldy all along but now think that with Sinclair and Leuenberger (arguably) both number one rucks at their new clubs, I can use one as coverage in the forward line and upgrade the other to Goldy when he gets around the 600-630k mark.

Any feedback or suggestions on how I should use the spare cash?

Looks pretty good Bomber, although Shiel looks like an odd man out to me. I'd back Libba to out-score him, and making that switch could boost your kitty to around 360k. For that, you could switch one Hibberd for the other, for example.

Arguably your forward line would be the place to focus though - Bennell is flaky (more than 15 games only once in five years), Gray has potential but is unproven, Buddy has the usual issues plus one or two more this year, and Leuey is a deep value pick but obviously somewhat risky injury-wise. [I intend to pick him.] I think the forwards look like the hardest line so far this year, but maybe a more solid, discounted premium type like Barlow or Boomer could help your side. Alternately, you could consider paying up for the (relative!) certainty of Dusty or Lids. Good luck.

My first bit of feedback mate would be to get Robbie Gray out of the forward line, he is only a MID this year unfortunately.

32k Remaining
First crack without to much trouble which is a worry haha.
Defence looks a little week but i think they can all improve on there average from last year.
With Dusty gonksi i think lids will cop more attention.
Downgrading him to Green would give me 194k to play with to upgrade to a Mcveigh in defence.
Joey i picked randomly, just wanted to know how expensive i could go in the fwd line
PS. Good to see all the lads posting teams up again even though its only been a day or so.
Love this time of year.

Thoughts on structures would be appreciated

Option 1:
DEF - 4 (considered keepers)
MID - 4 (considered premium, top 10 ave./agg) + 1 mid-pricer (Libba)
RUC - 2 (premium keepers, including Goldy)
FWD - 4 (considered keepers)

With the remaining spots filled by rookies

vs.

Option 2:
DEF - 4 (considered keepers)
MID - 5 (considered premium, top 10 ave./agg) + 1 mid-pricer (Libba)
RUC - 1 (premium keepers, not including Goldy)
FWD - 4 (considered keepers)

With the remaining spots filled by rookies

Interesting to see Fyfe left out of so many teams, was my first picked. Am i missing something? He's not even the most expensive player in the game!

I think it's mainly due to three mains reasons:

1. The belief he may spend more time up forward next year hence scores less SC wise.
2. Carry over injury worries/concerns
3. So many value mids to choose from.

More minor concerns at this stage than huge issues, personally Fyfe is still in my 20 odd premium (and value) mids that I'm considering :)

Fair enough.

Bit of a mixed starter for 10. Dusty likely comes in if he doesn't get the chopstick

D: Bartel, Hibberd, Yeo, Smith, R1, R2, R3, R4
M: Fyfe, Ablett, Rocky, Parker, Libba, JOM/Crouch/Mills, R1, R2 (R3, R4, R5)
R: Martin, Nic Nat (West)
F: Montagna, Dahlhaus, Wingard, Franklin/Dusty, R1, R2 (R3, R4)

Thoughts:

Defenders I'll try not to pay too much, so no-one over 500.
Mids I like the first 5, may swap out JOM/Crouch to change my forward
R: Pretty sure here. Goldyless for the year? Maybe.
F: Don't like these much. Martin and Lids likely ins, love Chad, wouldn't put buddy in but I expect I'll somehow end up with him so cutting out the pain in between.
