Definitely too strong in the midfield. I'd downgrade 2 of your mid premiums and use the cash to solidify your forward line.

Just the one question i always ask with this style/structured type team- What will be your next move if Leuey goes down with an injury, say rnd 3-5?
You got your value worth with this team on paper.
In a perfect world you'd be off to a flyer but there are 3 players comming off LTI's, 4 if you want to throw leuy in the injury risk category. There's not alot of flexibility in the team if these players break down apart from sideways trading to fix spot fires which i can personally tell you kills your season straight up.
If they stay on the park though its happy days.
Thanks gents, you've given me something to think about.

I normally use my maximum trades each week until my team is almost complete, so I think an injury to a player like JOM, Libba or Wells can be dealt with pretty straightforwardly. Typically I would downgrade them to upgrade elsewhere, or vice versa - I would very seldom try to fix a mid-pricer with another mid-pricer, to me they are really for starting sides and emergencies only. No doubt Libba et al come with injury risk, but I don't think the two mids have an unusual amount of it, and yet they're essentially priced as though they do (Wells probably does have an unusual amount of risk, but he's extremely cheap, and can be picked as a fwd with DPP, so there are significant o***ets). I don't see this group as causing me structural concerns (unless I have missed your point?) in light of this.

Leuey may be a different story, and he's the one I've been giving most thought to in response to your comments. Snowman, your question is a good one, and most likely I would have to raise more cash elsewhere to upgrade him at that point (the 110k is still in the bank for now, although that could be more or less by round 3-5). I see players like Wells, Aish and possibly JOM as a ready pool of cash for situations like this. None of them will be keepers in my view, so it's only a matter of time until I cash them in, and if that time comes earlier than expected to fix a problem elsewhere, I am comfortable with that (it's actually one of the reasons I typically choose a mid-pricer on each line - they can help facilitate these upgrade-downgrade paired trades at times). If someone I am not as sold on (perhaps Greene) is playing an SC-unfriendly role, eg, he would be an option as well, and could raise more cash. I acknowledge that the rucks might be a riskier place to pick a mid pricer unless there are other reasonable ones at a similar price, so I will be keeping an eye on any other viable but good value R2s (maybe Tippett? Or Ryder?) to see if Leuey can be pushed to the forward line, or simply weighing up the risks on Leuey a little more carefully.

Thanks again.

Thoughts appreciated. Defence a bit light on.
Can downgrade ward to libba/crouch if i'm convinced there over there injuriesand use it in defence.
To be honest i like the 3-0-5 back there.
bc i like your structure of your team. at the start of the year everyone was concered with the def rookies and started to use a lot of mid price defenders but def rookies were ok this year and it allowed coaches to save money on the premium defenders. so its not a bad idea to start light on in the defence. your strategy has allowed you to grab really good midfield premiums that you dont need to worry about. the only concerns that i have is jpk and leuey. leuey for obvious reasons can he average 90-100? will he stay on the park? etc etc..jpk i remember reading somewhere he has one good season, and then one bad season.

Hi guys, let me know what you think!

Solid squad you have here MC's Mix.
A sound structure. I've read through the Stepping Stones thread and I can see both sides of the logic. I have 4 of the 6 you mentioned in the thread in my team at the moment. Think it is worthwhile taking a punt with some of the value out there this year.
Hurn is a NO for me but I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on him.
Good job mate. Think you'll be up the pointy end again at the end of 2016.

Hurn has a terrific record, with a (prior to this season gone) 6-season average of 87.5. He presents fantastic value, and I see him returning to 85ish with the return from injury of the Eagles defenders.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Irregular poster, but long time reader. Been trawling through this thread over the last few days in between bouts of bali belly to get a feel for what my team will look like – some great looking teams here. My team will end up being a mostly GnR approach with perhaps Libba as the only mid-pricer but will see what happens through the NAB cup. I will post it later in the new year.

For a laugh however I have gone through everyones teams to pick out all the mid pricers/ fallen prems/ potential breakout players and come up with a team. If it somehow came off (doubt it) you would have to use few trades and probably rocket up the leader board. However in reality you would probably be crying a few rounds in as players don’t perform/ players re-injure etc. anyway its an interesting looking team with ‘potential’ (use that term very loosely) keepers in every spot…

DEF: Yeo, Rich, Smith, Hurn, Eski, Aish (brown, Adams)
MID: Selwood, Rockliff, Wines, Barlow, Gibbs, Libba, JOM, Crouch (Beech Harwood Joyce)
RUCK: Sinclair, Luey (Wyatt)
FWD: Harvey, Merret, Ryder, Greene, Thomas, Wells (Kommer Petrecca)

I wonder if this is a another way of doing it, 7-10 keepers. Be a brave player, too many upgrades to make but. 13-14 keepers to kick off I reckon.

Time to throw my hat in the ring.
19 family members have finally left after 4 days. House resembled a bomb site but now looking a little better. The kids sent me crazy. I'm sure they don't know how to close a door, same as the father in law. Woke up to 2 birds flying around inside the house this morning.
Peace finally restored, time for Supercoaching.

J McVeigh, E Yeo, B Smith, N Malceski, J Aish, MW Brown.
(M Hibberd, A Tipungwuti.)

S Pendlebury, G Ablett, T Rockliff, O Wines, J Watson, T Liberatore, D Myers, J Trengove.
(B Fiorini, N Freeman, R Mathieson.)

S Martin, M Leuenberger. (M King.)

D Martin, L Dahlhaus, M Barlow, D Menzel, D Wells, B Kennedy.
(S Kerridge, C Petracca.)

Going with Leuenberger at this stage. Will be the no 1 ruck at Essendon, hoping for a 85 - 90 ave before being upgraded. New club and DPP a bonus. Lewy does seem to find a way to screw us over most years though. Worth a punt in my books.
Not happy with the Wells selection but ran out of funds. Only bonus is if he is fit, he will be guaranteed games.

Oh - @Philzsay. Do you think it will take long for Tipungwuti to be upgraded from the rookie list. A very handy player with nice skills.

A lot to like there, Pete.

The only picks I'm iffy on are:

Malceski - I don't think he will average enough to be a keeper and he is too expensive to be considered a stepping stone.

Aish - He is a wait and see for me as I just don't know what he will be like at the Pies. Don't think he'll average enough to be a keeper and at 275k he is unlikely to generate a whole lot of cash to be a good stepping stone either.

Watson - I just don't think he's fantasy relevant anymore. I think he will average less than 100 and I think he will miss a few games like he does most years.

Menzel - If he was a bit cheaper, say 200k, then I think he would be worth a look. But at 260k I think there is just too much risk involved with his injury history. If you're comfortable that he will stay injury free and average at least 85 to be a decent stepping stone then go for it.

Myers is the other I'm a bit iffy on as he wont be a keeper but he just might average enough to be an ok stepping stone. Hopefully he stays injury free too.

The rucks are a bit risky with Leuey at R2 and no coverage in forwards but it's a calculated risk that could pay off.

The rest looks really good. Love the Wines pick, reckon he could go BANG next year.

Woke up to 2 birds........

For a second I thought you had a really great night, until I read the rest of the sentence. ;)

I think it may take a while before Tippa gets a gig. I don't think he is in the best 22 yet so will have to wait for tge injury toll to amout before he gets his chance. I can't wait to see him debut though, should be a ripper and provide some highlights! Hopefully now he is on an AFL list and not have to work and study as much as he was, he can improve his endurance/tank and consistency, probably the two areas holding him back to date.

Looks good Kris.

Like the structure.

I have concerns about Leuy, but aside from that I think it's a good start.

Keep seeing J.Aish popping up regularly in many sides. and I'm starting to think I must be missing something. At 275k, just moved clubs, and still just a kid [albeit a talented kid] Curious as to what peoples expectations are?

Im not quite sure about the popularity of Leunburger in the selections here. Cannot play that ruck/fwd role, and Bellchambers poses a real threat as the number 1 ruckman if not already being ahead in terms of selection. If leunburger breaks down, there're few options available to trade in given his low starting price.

I think the best way to cover this risk is start Leuy as a F4/F5 or to swing him to F4/F5/F6 pretty early on once you work out which cheapish R2 you want to punt on, he can then get downgraded (to a forward or possibly a mid) if out for a while, or be covered by your F7/F8 as needed
