^ Just on the sub discussion, I was initially thinking much the same as Freo. Looking at the four high-priced rookies I mentioned, they actually had 17 vests (of both types) between them. Cripps had none, but Hartung had as many as 10. He does play for a very strong side though, and I think it's generally best to be wary of picking rookies who do.

Either way, I'm pretty happy to not have to be thinking about sub risks this year :)

Just re-visiting this thread KLo and I must applaud you for all the great work. Will help quite a lot when picking my initial team. Thanks!

What about the points tho? Libba's 105 average, versus your worst starting rookie. How many points do you give up for the extra starting cost and slower appreciation? Could be a difference of 40 points per week!

It depends, if it means you've upgrade Lobbe to Goldy, maybe you have your 40 points back and more...

... Plus the points at the other end of the season. IF Libba averages 105 you could get caught leaving him at M8 whilst others have upgraded their rookies to a 110+ M8

Another thing to note and I don't think anyone has mentioned it before is that in the years where Libba averaged 107 & 110, he had Minson (averaged 114 & 93) at his prime in the Ruck. Who have the Bulldogs got rucking for them these days?

Mmm, great point.
And I think the Bont with an extra foot over Libba will be plonking a few balls that would otherwise have gone his way.

He may be a pretty good apple picker are there any stats to back that up from 2014/2013?

Libba was the leading Clearance man in 2014 with 7.05/game. Fyfe was 2nd with 6.70.
In 2013 Libba was again 1st, with 8.32, and JPK was 2nd with 7.48.

He was THE clearance beast!

Not basing it on stats, just a general observation mate. All I know is that Minson had his career best year in 2013 where he finished the year as the #1 ruckman (averaged 39 HO), and was ranked 8th in 2014 (averaged 36 HO). He only played 9 games last year and I remembered some games where the Bulldogs were employing a 'make shift' ruckman at the centre bounces. Another thing is I would bet that the Bulldogs H2A percentage in 2013/14 would have been significantly higher than last year too.

Noted, that a premier ruckman doesn't help their midfielder players to score well (just look at the North midfielders as an example), but at least it gives them an opportunity to score well if they make full use of those H2A stats.

But I think the man who took over the running of the orchard last year doesn't want Libba to be the only apple picker.

Another good point that I hadn't considered! I might dig into this a bit more later :p

Tend to agree davo, i've tried to justify not picking him, but ATM, before NAB he is in. We will wait and see if NAB reveals anything positive or negative on him - have to be sure of him though, end of the day he is coming off an ACL, it is something that could suddenly cause issues as the season goes on. Not just issues with the knee itself, but other related niggles could occur.

Seeing Libba as a late out wouldn't surprise me, general soreness could and probably will happen for him

In the same boat Torress. Also have him in at M6 currently pending NAB form/how I personally think he looks/plays. Will either be upgraded to a premium, "downgraded" to a Crouch or JOM (if they show more) or a "must have" rookie with the remaining cash used elsewhere.

people have a fair enough reason to not pick libba

im a doggies man and when minson played **** so did libba.

hes in my team cos I love him. but there is no guarantee he will win the ball as much as previous years without minson,
plus theres bont, dahl, mccrae, stringer and a heap of other players who will be in midfield now taking clearances off libba

just my 2 cents

I wonder tho whether those other Bulldogs players now give him someone to handball too, and INCREASE his DE.

Plenty of negatives to picking him sure, be interesting to see how he goes

I can't imagine Stringer having huge amounts of time per game in the guts. Just need to remember we don't have Crameri and he (Cram) was a vital part of our attack. Everyone will have to see who we play in the forward line

Want to start with Libba, but I've replaced him with 200k rookies in 3 lines. Might move him back in post nab.
