I brought in buddy mid season last year and luckily enough had all positions filled enough to have him sitting on the bench. Hopefully he's better this year, as at his price... he's too good not to pick up.

Last year i brought him in at his lowest... which was 435 or so... so to be able to start him for just 35k is a no brainer for me. As long as he is fit, and apparently he is VERY FIT, he is a confirmed starter.

The thing is, with Buddy, I've never had him in any of my teams over the years but I have always been terrified when playing against a team with Buddy in it. I think the time has come to recognize and accept that it is probably less stressful to have Buddy in my team and ride out his ups and downs than it is to worry about not having him in my team, if that makes any sense :).

In think you will find that this assumption isn't correct :p However you will need to experience it for yourself to truly understand what I mean :)

Agreed with Ricky Bobby. As a Buddy owner in every year I've played SC, I can say from experience that he is probably the most stressful and frustrating SC player out there. Particularly in the last couple of years.

At this stage, this will be the first year where I have not started with Buddy. As in the last two years, my good starts to seasons have been derailed and destroyed by players getting injured/suspended/rested etc. So my rule for this year is essentially durable and dependable players only.

I've got a feeling that famous quote from Lyndon Johnson (US president 1963-1969), when asked why he hadn't sacked J. Edgar Hoover might apply to Buddy this year....

"I'd rather have him inside the tent p1ssing out, than outside the tent p1ssing in!"

Difference is Harry O's best season was 88, whereas Buddy has had seasons as good as 115.

I think the idea of jumping on Buddy is because he is a proven premium who has fallen and has gone through his "blues" (pardon the pun) at his new club and should hopefully bounce back somewhere close to his best. It wouldn't take much for him to bounce up to a 100 average and be a serious keeper and lock for the season, he will have ups and downs but I can't see his price dropping. Injury can hit anyone but he does like to throw out those arms and clothesline people so suspension could be taken into account but I think this year the rookie forward pool seems quite strong and a few fill in games will still mean he is a great choice.

However, is he better than Heeney for 100k less? Who knows and time will tell, but either way I don't think he can be at all compared to the pipe dream that was the Harry O become a solid quality midfielder that we could select in our back lines due to a few news articles and a couple of NAB cup games.

Can't dispute his history and value for this year, he can make or break your FWD line early on so I'm on board.

Watched him closely in the last NAB match and I think that's more accustomed to the role he'll be playing in the real stuff!

Buddy was moving pretty good on Friday night and was good to see him dishing off a few goals to other players.
One thing I've noticed though with Buddy is he is not nearly as dominant in the 1v1s than he used to be during his prime at Hawthorn.
Would be interesting to see his contested mark stats over his career and see if there's been a decline since his Hawks days?
I have fond memories of him pushing aside defenders at will in '08 but he seems to do his best work on the lead and around the ground now.

2015: avg 1.00 - rank 70
2014: avg 2.32 - rank 2
2013: avg 1.24 - rank 50
2012: avg 2.05 - rank 12
2011: avg 1.77 - rank 21
2010: avg 1.78 - rank 14

Interesting that his highest average over that 6 year period for contested marks was his first year at Sydney!
If he can get his numbers back up around 2 per game, will surely help him push towards that 100 avg.
