I hear your points on there being value in the mids, but i'm also conscious of the fact I want a team of top end premo's by the end too. What concerns me about taking too many value players is not being left with any space for a) superstars and b) this year's heroes.
I completely agree. I'm just wary of picking too many 600k+ players. GAJ is potentially too dangerous to ignore, he was massive last year even nursing injuries. Pendlebury is the 1st player locked in to my side every year. Then I've got JPK/Rockliff/Libba sitting beside them. I could make JPK > Dangerfield, and Libba > Fyfe but it completely jeopardizes my structure elsewhere.

Nic Nat hasn't won enough uncontested ball so far in his career. If he gets that facet of his game up, he will be right up there with Goldstein. And for someone of his athletic ability, he is expected to make more of an impact up forward.
Kicked more goals than any other FT ruckman last year

Not having Pendles worries me but I think not having Fyfe worries me more!
Pendles and Wines + $70K makes a lot of sense but where do I spend the $70K?
Would need to see the rest of your team to answer that, mate ;)

Bird vs. Simpkin v ?
Out of those 3........ ?

Seriously, to answer your question Simpkin because he's cheaper. Personally, I'd be steering clear of Essendon players like we did when GWS was launched. Cheap rookies and that's probably it........... Taking my own advice, I now need to seriously reconsider Z. Merrett who has been a mainstay of my pre-preseaon team.

I was a bit shocked to see people have 5, 6, 7 Essendon players in their current team. I'm sitting here with 4 (rookies) and thinking maybe that's one too many. I guess time will tell.

When i first heard about the essendon top ups etc i had a case of shinytoyitis with 9 essendon players in my team... now I just have Tippa, Brown and Grimley who will all be staying in my team if they line up round 1 (Tippa maybe even if he doesn't). Agree with the bottom price rookies too...think simpkin is a trap

Wines just. Both could well go 110-115, but I genuinely think Wines will challenge Boak as Port's second best mid, whereas Parker will be competing with Mitchell to be the third best midfielder at the Swans, with JPK and Hanners ahead. This could be a good thing for Parker, means he could avoid the tag, but I don't expect Wines to be tagged every week either. Wines is also 2 years younger, it doesn't say much but it's an extra selling point for me.

Lastly, when I watch a game of AFL football as a neutral supporter (not an Essendon game), I like to have a player or two from my SuperCoach team to cheer on. There are a lot more Swans than Power players on my radar, so Ollie could well be the only Port player that makes the cut (Bonner perhaps?) in my team... ;)

EDIT: Also, I just like Wines better. I think he is a leather magnet and will rack up the pill. Expecting big disposal counts in every game. In saying that though, Parker is pushing his claim today! 32 disposals (T-Mitch too) with 10 or so minutes remaining! Would have loved to see Wines, I guess we'll wait for NAB 2.

A few decisions looking line ball for me....

BACKS:
J.Macmillan vs G.Birchall
(Birchall seems to have been ignored by everyone. Really favouring him as a proven performer POD)
B.Smith vs E. Yeo
(Got burnt by Brodie last year, leaning towards Yeo so long as it looks like more mid time for him)

MIDS:
R.Sloane vs L.Parker
(Leaning towards Sloane, with him being no.1 mid and with more points on offer due to Danger leaving - but also likely to attract tag. Swans midfield has so many points scorers - will there be enough left for Parker?)
Pendles vs Fyfe
(this should be a no-brainer - fyfe)

RUCKS:
Mummy vs NicNat
(similar to Birchall, Mummy seems to be a very unpopular pick this year. Im ready to take a punt on him)

FWDS:
Toby Greene vs Buddy
(Not convinced by Bud. If Greene can get back to his best of a few years ago hes a steal)
C.Wingard vs Dahl
(Dahl looks a bit overpriced. Leaning towards the Chad in a resurgent Port outfit)

Interested to hear peoples opinions on any of these...... cheers :)

I really like both. I had parker from the start last year and while it was frustrating i still liked having him. He kicks goals and i think the new interchange will help him. Both him and Wines are great picks IMO

Birch over Macmillan just as he is more proven as a scorer but I don't really like either personally I am taking both Smith and Yeo over either at this stage. Out of Smith and Yeo I think Yeo has more upside. Brodie I think will return to mainly off half back this year with some time through the wing/mids. This role suits him and his scoring and if he can get through without getting knocked out he will score well! Brodie first picked in my def this year

Sloane v Parker - love sloaney but never liked him for my sc for some reason - Parker offers more upside but prob more risk like you say. Fyfe over Pendles easy for me but I always think pendles will drop off a bit but he never does lol

Mummy I think is a good pick as long as your team risk profile allows it! I like Nic Nat at that price though - think he will kick more goals resting forward this year which will ony improve his scoring

I can't judge the fwds at all - just risk everywhere there. Buddy or no buddy is such a tough decision this year as he is well priced...id take him over Greene I prob won't take buddy but not having him scares me a great deal. Wingard over Dahl for price but think Dahl probably shades him for average over the year. Their prices are both fair for there output IMO so no upside but solid picks if they suit your structure

Some really good thoughts there....

Also im thinking fewer rotations and mids having to spend more time resting fwd can only help parker as he is very handy up fwd. Like you said with nicnat
