Glad to see my original pick of Broad as a def rookie has paid off from the NAB game last night.
Don't like Pendlebury in my midfield at his price - with no subs, and less interchange rotations, and his less than impressive end to last year, and with Treloar and a fit Sidebottom raring to go in the midfield - he's out of my side.
Plenty of forward rookies looking good at the moment, just not sure about losing the points in the forward line.
If Libs brings it home this year, I count 15 keepers.

What are everyone's thoughts on Gibson and Birchall in the same team?

Going through plans b,c,d as every nab game creates a slightly different plan of attack in my head.
More of a what if really, so don't think im jumping on the first decent play that shows something, its more about covering all bases and scenarios of who are showing a bit and are likely to have a spot in there teams best 22.

I see this as 14 keepers
Classing Wells, Aish, Howe as rookies with potential to score slightly more than the average rookie.

Nice looking team with some good scoring potential.

However, too many mid-pricers for my liking.
Wells, Aish and Howe are all mid-pricers in my book, and having 3 of them is too much risk, and not enough cash generation.
I'd get rid of Aish or Howe to put one up to a premium (Birchall/Gibson type), and the other down to a rookie.

Like the backline and forward premiums - not many teams have Bennell which is a good POD.
Great set-and forget rucks.

A couple speculative "keepers" in Williams and Wines but both tick my boxes for a possible breakout year.
Ablett is in my team for now.
Light in the rucks. I'm hoping Tippett looks good enough to be a forward keeper. Somewhere about round 6-8 move him forward and bring in the top ruck.
No Wells.
Rookies are just rookies and are not set

134k in the bank.

sold team there anfa18 with 14/15 keepers. I like the wines pick but not sold on Williams. I was thinking the same thing as you and running with Tippett at R2.

We have 12 keepers the same so I think you have a good team there!

I would feel nervous with just one of Yeo, Smith, Esky in my back line. They all have potential to be great picks, but I'm not confident about any of them. I think having all three is a risky move, but if you are really comfortable with them, then go for it :)

Also, J Wagner is rookie listed, so would need to be elevated before he can play and Trengove may not be ready to play round 1.

Cheers RB.
Have to admit, I'm lost with the defenders this year. Half confident with Smith and the Eski for value and have thrown in Yeo as a punt and hope it pays off. He does have the potential to break out.

Our sides are so damn similar so I'm obviously a fan of this team.

One question though. Where's Rockliff??

Think this is no3/4 team now but its getting there

Screen Shot 2016-02-21 at 2.20.03 PM.jpg

What do you guys think???

Missing pendles who will be most likely my first upgrade.
Tippett will move fwd to accomodate the next best ruck

Leaving after my first two upgrades needing 3 defs, 2 mids and 1 fwd if all works out with Eski being D6 hopefully

Thoughts???????

Currently have 147k left to get Pendles or a ruck at rd4-5 which requires wells to go at about 90 to do this

Great team, only player I strongly dislike is Malceski. Took out Franklin this morning but might go back to him. Good structure and solid picks. I would downgrade Dea to Cowan who apparently is a strong chance for round 1, and upgrade Franklin to Wingard.

I reckon have a look at options with Wells F4

See if that allows you to sort out some of the spec picks in your side. It's looking like starting Wells, Kerride and one rookie up forward will work.

Hi PowerBrokers - a few thoughts on your side:

- Pendles was playing injured in the latter part of last year (couldn't kick it 50 at times) , so I would bear that in mind in how you are assessing him. Treloar is also under a cloud, although hopefully that's a reasonably short-term thing, so that concern may still apply for much of the season. Personally, I think its hard to see one of the best players in the comp pushed out of our midfield, but I know there is a range of views on this. Your mids look good anyway. What do you expect Wines to average?

- Your backline is one area I would probably try to make more solid. Gibson looks fairly fully priced based on his history and hasn't scored at keeper level for a full season yet, Birchall is usually one rung below the top defs, and McGovern is not proven. Perhaps you could take one or two of those players instead of all three? The defence is the line to take risks historically, but obviously the less risk you can take, the better in most cases. None of those three players is durable, so you may find yourself using your rookies more than you'd like, and def rookies are usually the poorest scorers. Simpson looks a very solid pick to me, so he might be an option for you. Also, I'm not sure if Brown (WC) is just a placeholder (my rookies still are!) but his scoring history and durability would suggest he's a non-starter unless his role has changed.

- I like NicNat, assuming he's fit, and have him in my side. I would be keen on Martin but he has a poor history of getting on the park. I note you have no obvious ruck cover, so this would be something to think about. I plan to use Tippett for that purpose at this stage, but mainly because I think he's a potentially good pick on a standalone basis. You could simply go for a more durable option, although Jacobs has a tough draw early, and Goldy is overpriced in my view - so the ruck line remains tough as I see it! I gather one of the M Kings is seen as the best donut option at R3, if that's what you're going for.

- Your forward line looks pretty good to me. Dusty and Barlow for solid picks, Buddy for value and potential ceiling. I'm not sure about Cockatoo, although he again may be a placeholder. I generally dislike Cats (and Hawks, Swans and Dockers) rookies as they rarely seem to get a good run given the strength of internal competition, and from what I can tell he has no record of scoring well. I'd consider upgrading him to Wells, who should easily outscore him, and will (I think) make you at least as much cash.

- A minor comment given where we are this season, but it looks like not many of your rookies have good DPP utility at this stage. No doubt your rookies will change, but it's something I will be keeping an eye on.

Good luck! :)

Looks pretty good to me Anfa, some interesting choices here. A few thoughts/observations:

- Your backs look pretty good, although I'm personally reluctant to back someone like Williams given his role change seemingly needs to be ongoing/permanent to be a good pick. I have no particular I sight into this, but his price is high enough that I think it's a fairly risky move when you could take someone like Smith for not much more.

- Mids look good. I think it's good to have at least one c. $200k-et in there as a placeholder if nothing more, so that's a plus. I'm not sure whether Hopper necessarily has a set role this year at GWS, so Mills could be an alternative if he gets a role across half back (ie, I wouldn't normally pick a dear rookie from a strong side without an obvious and SC-friendly role).

- Your rucks are interesting, I have NN at R1 and Tippett forward, although I've recently considered moving him to the rucks early on, as you mention. I note you have Currie, who is a dear bench option, so I'd just make sure you're not placing a high value on Tippett's ruck cover ability if you're also paying up for Currie to provide that (a bit like double counting). Currie may provide your cover early, though, and Tippett late, so perhaps that's okay ... although Currie would probably need to work as a cash cow to use this structure.

- I like Dusty and Barlow up forward, and Wingard looks okay but somewhat higher risk than he might look. The Port forward structure seems likely to have to change a lot this year, and given Wingard's good 2015/high price, I suspect that is mainly downside risk. Wingard also kicked a truckload of goals for his size last year, and with unusually high accuracy, so I expect him to drop a bit this year. He might still be a high scorer, but you may be overpaying a bit if I am ultimately correct. See above for my thoughts on Cockatoo. I see you also have Grimley as a R-F! Should be pretty safe from ruck donuts early on this year :)

I'd be interested in your thinking on Wells given you're a North supporter - whether you think he's a bad pick (and why?), or whether this is just a structural call?

Good luck for the season.

Great minds think alike mate. Had already started messing with that exact idea.
The extra 200k has allowed me to finish up with Libba at M6 which what I was aiming for. Yet another reshuffle.

J Bartel, G Birchall, B Smith, N Malceski, M Brown, M Hartley.
(N Broad, S Skinner.)

P Dangerfield, S Pendlebury, G Ablett, T Rockliff, O Wines, T Liberatore, C Mills, J Gresham.
(B Fiorini, D Gore, M Hibberd.)

S Martin, N Naitanui. (S Grimley.)

D Martin, L Dahlhaus, M Barlow, D Wells, B Kennedy, S Kerridge.
(C Petracca, A Tipungwuti.)

Very happy with this set up although the backline is still a disaster area, will have to monitor NAB Challenge games.
Funds are tight with 17.6k remaining.
Will be starting Skinner (d/f) as a flonut to cover Gaz early.

I think you've got quite a few good picks in here Torress, but there are two things I would look at:

- Defs vs fwds. You're really heavy down back with Duryea at D6, but have Wells at F3. I'd try to even this up. At some stage you're going to want a number of guys like Shaw, McVeigh, maybe Boyd, and the odd guy who will be D-M or even M next year but that we haven't identified yet (last year's Picken, say). You've basically got one spot for them to share, so the risk is your def dominates opponents' early, but really lags later on. I'd cut the one or two you're least confident in and try to get another quality forward in.

- PODs/fringe-y picks: you have a lot of players that are one or two levels below proven keepers: KK, Yeo, McGovern, Bont, Shiel, Wines and Blitz. I'd try to reduce this number. I think a max of two in the mids would be a good idea, especially if you have Libba as well. The sorts of players I think you will ultimately want in the mids would be Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Selwood and perhaps Sloane, Beams and JPK. At this stage you won't have spots for the vast bulk of them, so you may struggle late in the year against teams with these players unless your slightly more speculative picks all achieve ultra premium level, which seems quite unlikely (even if they're all better than 50-50 picks individually).

Overall, I would try to reduce your number of keepers to increase their quality, even up your fwd/def balance, and try to ensure you have spots for the proven ultra-premos you ultimately want on each line. Good luck :)

I think he will be a bad pick. It could be because i am a bit of a pessimist but i don't see much upside. The last 2 years he's lined up for round 1 and he's managed to play 5 games straight in 2014 and 2 games straight in 2015. I get the feeling it's just a matter of time before he gets another leg/foot/calf/achilles/ankle injury.
