Looking for thoughts on my restructured defence. Culled gray down to Ben Kennedy as high priced rookie whom performed really well on the weekend. This allowed me to upgrade brown from wce to Heath shaw. With 4 premiums in defence I think it gives a more balanced feel. Thoughts?
That is a sound team Macca, wouldn't be playing too much with that (you will, as I do!).
I agree that a 4 premo backline is the way to go at the moment.

I like this team. 3 solid picks in defence. Very strong midfield. I like Miles as a potential breakout to a 110 average. Honestly though, I feel he will average around the same as Libba, so you could easily downgrade and then spend some more on your other lines. Love the ruck combo, a bit different but very solid in my opinion. I also like the Zach Merrett pick. Perhaps going Miles to Libba could allow you to turn Weitering or Wells into a low risk or potential keeper pick.

Thanks very much for your thoughts mate, I did have Liba but decided to make some cash and turn him into Miles. Every man and his dog will have Liba, if he plays nab 3 I'll consider him but for now I'm loving miles in my team as he's only in like 0.4 teams or something around that mark. So I'm hopeful Liba is still not fully fit and back to his best. And considering he has not played for 12 months means he may take a while to settle back into AFL again

Just had another fiddle and came up with this.

D: Laird, Simpson, Bartel, Sheridan, Bonner, Broad (Brown, Collins)

M: Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Ablett, Rockliff, Libba, Mathieson, Polkinghorne (Cuningham, Gore, Freeman)

R: Goldstein, Martin (Grimley)

F: Martin, Barlow, Harvey, Menadue, Kerridge, Petracca (Cox, McDonald-Tipungwuti)

Bolded are probable keepers, orange are potential keepers.

Looks good pending rookie selection round 1. I would have liked to see a $200K rookie selection so that you had flexibility with your choices. Upgrading by dropping down a rookie is easier than downgrading a keeper to fill other possessions. ie. Martin down to ?????

Perhaps Harvey to Merrett (a move I have been considering anyway, minimal savings) and Martin to Gawn.

Sheridan to Weitering and bring in Mills?

I think your mid rookies are a bit iffy. Lacks a Mills/Kennedy/Parish type I reckon.

I am getting very close to liking my overall team. I have left myself open to not being able to afford expensive rookies. May have to rework my team to enable a Mills/Hopper player. only about $15k in bank

It seems like you are trying too hard to keep Libba and Wells out of your team making things a bit harder than they need to be on the rookie front. is Macaffer really an option?

KK is expendable for mine if you feel cash strapped.
It's not that I'm trying to keep them out I just don't see them as being a genuine good pick.
Wells will get injured you can almost bet on that and I'd prefer to
Start caff over Libba due to using the 200k left to have a extra prem in my side.
If caff can AV 70ish he will prob make as much or more than Libba who most
Will fall into a trap with him at m8 and loose 15 ppg

Going Fyfe, Danger AND Goldy may have weakened your forwards a tad. Unless enough decent rookies pop up having those three AND fitting Libba in (for example) really stretches you (I've also tried this option). I also don't think Martin will be a top 2 ruck this year (still top 5 though). He's missing a beard :p

In saying that:
DEF - looks solid and allows for a potential breakout in Sheridan (if you're going to try this on any line, DEF is a good spot)
MID - scary (especially if you get your rookies right)
RUC - set and forget...moving on...
FWD - a little thin. Would prefer to see Boomer at F4 or, if not, a stronger F4 than Menadue. I'd suggest taking out Freeman, move Petracca to the mids and slot someone in at F4 (dependent on funds of course)

Other than that, good team :)

So I know rookies are very important to making money, and I have seen how unimpressive some of the cheap rookies have been, so my newest team has a lot of more expensive rookies... If the cheap rookies show no improvement, I may go into Round 1 with this team and only 12 definite keepers. Is this flirting with danger? Please comment if you can:

DEF: Laird, Bartel, Sheridan, Weitering, Brown(Ess), Hardigan (Broad, K.Collins)
MID: Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, S.Mitchell, Rockliff, Liberatore, Mills, Kerridge (Gresham, Mathieson, R.Clarke)
RUCK: Goldstein, Gawn (Cox)
FWD: D.Martin, Barlow, Stringer, Wells, B.Kennedy, N.Cockatoo (C.Menadue, Phillips)

I still have 79k left, and I can upgrade Stringer up to Rioli, Buddy or Robinson, but i think Stringer will have an awesome season. Slightly inconsistent maybe, but I think if i went for a Buddy option, it would be the same. At this moment, Stringer is in my side as a keeper

I don't see a trap with Libba personally. He either is upgraded or held depending on his ppg. His last 2 full seasons were 107 and 110 yet he only costs $357K. Anyway, this is not to convince you on him.

An option for your side instead of Libba and Wells is KK-->Weitering and then buy yourself better mid rookies.

With Caff his highest ever average is 59.6. That's terrible for a $174K investment. Then you've got a $117K mid rookie at M8 which may work out but again with if others have spent a bit more on Parish/Mills types who go at 80-85 then I think eventually they skip past your extra starting premium because you have missed out on cash generation from the position where most of our rookie cash generation comes from.

That said, we do need to see whether Duggan/Mills/Anderson/Parish/Kennedy types are must haves.

I like your forward rookies though.

12 definite keepers + Wells, Libba and Sheridan is more than enough IMO. The rookie cash generation drives our upgrades and starting one less "def keeper" I think will work out in the long run if you nail all the right rookies.

I like your team.

Really like this team and I am currently running with exactly the same structure with just a few of the keeper/potential keeper picks different. I have also allowed for an expensive rookie in the mids as well as the fwds as it's likely we will need at least one.

Thanks Hondo, I needed that reassurance. There will be so much tinkering before round 1 I'm sure of it.

Latest version of many. the more I tinker the more expensive rookies end up in my side, still hoping some more cheapies emerge before round 1...

D: Rance, Laird, Bartel, Weitering, Brown, Hartley (Collins, Collins)
M: Fyfe, Danger, Pendles, Ablett, Gray, Rockliff, Mills, Gresham (Menadue, Mathieson, Macpherson)
R: Goldstein, Tippett (Cox)
F: Martin, Barlow, Wells, Kennedy, Cockatoo, Kerridge (Kommer, Grimley)

This year there appears to be so many options around the 220k mark and picking the right 2 or 3 will go along way towards getting the edge over the competition. Who to pick out of Weitering, Crowley, Mills, Wells, Simpkin, Parish, Anderson, Duggan, Sicily, Hopper, etc. All have the potential to average 80-90+ but also all have the ability to average 60. Who to pick....
