I would take anything Robbo says with a grain of salt. Damian Barrett quoted on radio that Gaz has been right to go for a while, but just doesn't want to play any preseason games.

Ablett's injury was reported on 13 February as being a "mild foot strain" (source: Dinny Navaratman, afl.com.au)

By 7 March the club had clarified that it related to an inflammation of the tendon running across the sesamoid bone at the base of his big toe (source: Ben Waterworth, Fox Sports).

Also on 7 March, Robbo reported in the Hun that "Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett will not play a game before Round 1, but the Suns insist his ankle injury is not a concern."

Wait, what? What ankle injury?

"They also confirmed the minor sprain in his ankle a month ago had become a tendon injury."

Um no, they clarified the foot injury a month ago was an inflammation to the tendon in his foot. Nobody mentioned anything about an ankle injury.

"Gold Coast head of football Marcus Ashcroft told the Herald Sun on Monday night: 'With Gaz, it’s a tendon in the foot, a ligament.'

No mention of an ankle there.

“'He sprained it a few weeks back and it was minor, but because Gaz has done so much training during the pre-season and done a lot of match simulations stuff, it’s a no-risk with him.'"

Or there.

“'He won’t play this week, he’s not 100 per cent, but we know with another three weeks to go, he’ll be fine.'”

No mention of an ankle there either.

Three days later Andrew Hamilton wrote an article in the Courier-Mail in which he said:

"Ablett had just about completed his most thorough pre-season in his time at the Suns when he experienced pain in his foot the week before the NAB series started.

"Scans showed a hot spot and his workload was drastically reduced but he started running session this week."

So no mention of an ankle there either. Just the foot, the same as was initially reported on 13 February.

Either Robbo has an exclusive deal with the Suns where they give him alone the bona fide info about their players' injuries and feed every other organisation bull****, or he's a hack who couldn't be bothered to do his research and struggles with the anatomical differences between an ankle and a foot.

You decide.

Hmmm, the correct answer is option B, right?

Turf toe.

How long was Sandilands affected for when he had problems?

They usually give it 2 to 3 weeks to heal and then it'll need to be managed.

I'm taking a set against Gazza and not starting the little master unfortunately.

Good luck to all that do.

What are people's thoughts on De Goey?

He had a great NAB and spent a lot of time in the midfield even with most of the Pies first choice mids in the same side.

Could he possibly average 90+ and be a keeper forward?

Mate, I also rate him... Great skills, clean with the ball (from the games I've seen). Liked what I saw of him last year.
I think with the 90 rotations it should help him get more time through the middle, if not play a high half-forward role. For me, it's worth looking at, especially if running a 2 premo forward-line. He and Wells for the price of Dollhouse + rook - sounds tempting!

I think he could reach the high 80s to low 90s, but I'd avoid including the value of Wells in your assessment of him- whether or not you start De Goey, you probably have Wells in your team anyway.

Good point here Dan. I have had a similar experience with X vs Y situations that include Libba ... to me he is such good value that I end up almost always picking whichever option he is in, even if I don't really like who he is paired with. Given I see him as a lock, he really shouldn't be in any X vs Ys (to my thinking), because he should get picked either way.

Very fair point Dan. I guess what I was trying to say was that there are worse choices to get points and growth in the forward line, and with a 2 premo forwardline he's not a bad 'other' choice...
