I'm not a Rance owner but traded Treloar in for this round.

I think Rance played his best quarter in the last when the game was still in the balance. Had around 7 disposals and took a few intercept marks and was involved in scoring chains to help RIC build up that buffer early on. Agreed that he did have a couple of clangers late on in the game that was critical, however, I think someone earlier mentioned that CD have decided to halve the scaling of scores late on in games when it's close (be it positive or negative). I think we need to look at Rance's game in totality in the last quarter and not so much isolate his late clangers. Considering he was on 38 at 3-qrt, he was definitely fortunate to double his score for his last quarter efforts. I also think that CD left too many points in the bank at the final siren, around 180, so it had to be spread around. I haven't check the pre-scale vs the scaled scores, but it wouldn't surprised me if most (if not all) got scaled up.

Despite the score, I was content and happy with Treloar's game, he can certainly rack up the possessions. Give him some time and he'll come good, 2nd game with new team who've had to make some personnel change in the guts. Watching the live scores, his clangers seemed to have been marked down a bit more than usual, maybe because of the area in which the clangers occurred.

The other annoying thing about watching the game was that one of Treloar or De Goey seriously need to change their hair do! They look so similar on TV and there was numerous times where I was cheering for the wrong man, maybe CD did too or I need a bigger TV?
As a de Goey owner I can assure you that he certainly didn't steal any points off Treloar last night... But Im with you there they look far too similar for my liking haha

Sorry to bring it back to this, but I'm still finding this hard to swallow - Rance gives up a free kick deep inside 50 with 3 mins to play, gifting Fasolo his 6th goal and bringing Collingwood within one straight kick. He gets scaled up +2.

Treloar 5 minutes earlier creates a goal from nothing - dispossessed a Richmond player in a tackling scrum in the goalsquare and fires out a handball from his knees that results in Aish kicking a goal to keep Collingwood in it. With one minute left on the clock he gets possession in the centre square, arches his back and takes on two defenders to run to just outside 50 and pump it long to the top of the square. He gets scaled up +3.

I know Treloar was wasteful throughout, but it seems like this poor disposal effects the scoring of some crucial possessions in the last few minutes that kept Collingwood in the game.

Thoughts?
Scaling doesn't have anything to do with the individual players. At the end of the game if there is points short of 3400 then it is distributed across the players (expect evenly). They then scale the quarter by quarter scores depending on which quarters are more important on when the game was won. In this case a close game see Q4 get the benefit, I expect possibly 40% of the scoring, with balance of quarters 20%.

With Rance scoring most of his points in last quarter (and more than treloar) then he receives the benefit Q4 weighting going up.

Not sure whether they scale quarters first then spread the balance of points short of 3400 across or vice versa. Otherwise algorithm may do both at same time.

Hope that helps. Hopefully with comments around players you would have seen their individual scores move at that time depending on what points were rewarded for their actions.
