BEN Stratton will miss at least three weeks after sustaining a small tear to his pectoral muscle in Hawthorn’s loss to Melbourne at the MCG last Saturday.

Stratton, who has played an important role for the Hawks in defence this season, came from the field in the second quarter and took no further part in the match.

Hawthorn’s General Manager of Football Operations Chris ***an said it was a disappointing result for the three-time premiership player.

“Ben will miss three-to-four weeks with his pectoral injury which isn't ideal,” ***an said.

“He’s an important part of our backline unit but we are confident others will step up to cover his absence.”

Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said Pendlebury would be “kept off legs” today with the hope of training on Thursday to prove his fitness.

“Pendles is a tough competitor,” Buckley said.

“I’ve said it continually, the things that he takes onto the field, carries that other blokes normally wouldn’t, and because he’s a Rolls Royce and we see him as an elite player it doesn’t often even hit the public forum.

“He’s battling with that ankle injury but we’ll give him every chance.”

He's probably going to get the week off. Hopefully back for R22!

pretty wishful expecting a veteran with a history of calf/achilles issues to come back late in the year with finals hopes gone, unless it was straight away pegged as a 1-2 weeker

Not being a weirdo here but put Lids in a different system and with a different back office/fitness team and he might have done better.

No disrespect to any Richmond fans but the point is rule him out straight away. He doesn't have much chance of coming back especially when he has a bad injury and Richmond have no chance of making the 8.

What would be the advantage to the club of ruling him out straight away?

Clearly they thought he had some hope of playing again this year & as a 200 game player, Lids would be busting a gut
to play after missing a bit of footy in the last 2 years. Dont forget how durable he was for a decade.
